This comprehensive in-patient health cover has been introduced for NHIF contributors and their dependants. The actualization of this package is a culmination of continued reforms at NHIF. Such reforms include efficiency, arising from decentralization of NHIF services and continued partnership with health providers on enhanced quality services to all members. To enhance these benefits, NHIF has contracted hospitals under three Categories; A, B & C, to provide this in-patient medical cover and partial cover for surgical cases in some of these hospitals. Our members are at liberty to attend hospitals under any category.
Under Category A (government hospitals), members would be able to enjoy full and comprehensive cover for maternity and medical diseases including surgery. In short, they will not need to pay for anything on admission provided they are fully paid up members of NHIF. Members admitted under contract Category B (private and mission) hospitals will enjoy full and comprehensive cover but where surgery is required, the contributor may be required to co-pay.
Those visiting facilities contracted under Category C (private) will continue with the current system where NHIF pays specified daily benefits under the current arrangements. NHIF will continue to negotiate with other health providers not appearing in the list below to determine which category of contract they will sign. Members will be informed of additional hospitals as and when they sign the contracts.
Below is a list of Hospitals, Number of Beds and Contracts covered by NHIF in the Eastern Region.
You probably have a Kenya Revenue Authority, KRA, PIN and experiencing troubles logging into your account so as to declare the individual income tax returns. You may not be the only one facing such a scenario. Many Kenyans out there may have forgotten their KRA passwords and are stuck on what the next course of action should be.
Did you know that you can easily reset your password easily? Yes. All that you need to remember is the Email address that was used when applying for your PIN certificate.
You can also change the email address, in case you can not access/ recover the current address. Change of email address can be initiated by the taxpayer. Why I Support Referendum To Change The Constitution
The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking
– Albert Einstein
Unless one is a true sycophant, Kenya is in the throes of bankruptcy. Our voracious appetite for Loans, Eurobonds and Chinese freebies are digging us in a hole. It is like placing an alcoholic in a Brewery or a gambler in a casino. The only way to stop our Country collapsing is Constitutional Change.
I support Referendum to mark the following changes:
1. Women Representatives, Nominated MPs and Senators …. These Politicians have no work, no Constituency and no responsibilities. They end up being idle and get time for salon or bar or abuses.
2. Reduce MPs in the National Assembly to 180 …. With a population of 400m, US has 435 US Representatives being a ratio of 920,000 people to One Representative.
3. We reduce the Cabinet to 14 …. US has 15 and Switzerland has 7 …. Our Ministries are duplicated and we end up having Ministers fighting each other. And like Singapore, we increase Ministerial Salaries to Kshs. 20m per month praying they wouldn’t steal again.
4. We reduce the Counties to 14 drawn along shared language, tribe and religion like Britain and Switzerland … And Nairobi will be a Capital Territory like Washington in US and Canberra in Australia.
5. Make Corruption Capital offense like in China … Everyone must justify how they have made their money …. All Properties ownership must be put online and public … Tax payments be made public ….. One can’t be a Billionaire without companies that employ thousands …. Only lawyers, Architects, Doctors and Investment Bankers are allowed to be rich without employing hundreds of employees … Those who steal from the public must forfeit all and be shot!
6. Finally, the President must be the leader of the biggest party like in Turkey …. The President must also get at least 25% from Regions that have as the dominant tribe, Kikuyu, Kalenjin, Luo, Kisii, Luhya and Kamba. Other tribes are collateral.
7. All National Borrowing Agreements and Treaties must be made public and approved by the National and all the County
Assemblies …..
8. Constitutional Bodies and Institutions like Parliament, Judiciary, National Police Service, DPP, EACC etc must be truly independent.

Donald B. Kipkorir is a managing partner , KTK Advocates.
What is your view? Do you support the current push for constitutional review?
Journalist Jacque Maribe and her fiance, Joseph Irungu, will spend another 7 days in police custody. The decision was made by Judge James Wakianga who presided over the case, this morning, at Milimani law courts. Maribe and Irungu’s bail application hearing has now been set for October 24th, 2018. The two are facing charges over Monica Kimani’s murder.

The P9 form (Tax deduction card) is a very important document that is used when filing individual income tax returns online. Income tax is a direct tax that is imposed on income derived from Business, Employment, Rent, Dividends, Interests, Pensions among others. Individual Income Tax is charged for each year of income on all the income of a person and based on the Individual Tax Bands and Rates as formulated by the Kenya revenue Authority, KRA.
The P9 form is generated by the employer i.e the Teachers Service Commission for all teachers working under the Commission. Every month, TSC deducts a given amount of money from a teacher’s earnings; this amount is called the income tax or simply Pay As You Earn (PAYE). This amount is reflected on a teacher’s payslip that can be accessed online and is indicated as PAYE Auto. The good news for teachers is that it is the TSC that deducts this amount monthly and surrenders the same, directly, to the KRA. Thus, teachers are not faced with the burden of having to do this on a monthly basis; all by themselves.
Every employee is entitled to a monthly tax relief of Ksh. 16,896 per annum (Kshs.1,408 per month). People with disability are granted a tax exemption on their income for the first Kes. 150, 000 of their monthly income.
Tax- date: This is the first month of the monthly taxable income; for the whole financial year.
Taxable Pay: This is your monthly taxable pay (Gross income; Basic Salary plus allowances).
Pension: Monthly pay for retirees.
Pay Auto: This is the total monthly deductible individual income tax.
Unused MPR: This is any unutilized Monthly Personal Relief.
MPR Value: Which is the Monthly Personal Relief that is entitled to all residents.
Vote: This is the vote head under which the income tax is placed/ deducted by the employer.
Once armed with your P9 form you can now easily declare your individual income tax returns online. For a detailed but simplified guide on how to declare your returns online click here: How to file 2020 KRA returns online: Simplified procedure.
