When you need a Police Report.

You don’t Need Police Report for Everything but in these Situations, you definitely do

Some people think Police report is only when they want to arrest somebody. No.

Here are common situations where you need a police report:

🥢 When your phone is stolen

Before you block your SIM or track the phone, get a police report. Banks and telecom companies may require it. It also protects you if the phone is used for fraud.

🥢 When money is withdrawn from your account without your consent

Go to the police and report immediately. A police report strengthens your complaint to the bank and shows you acted quickly.

🥢 When you lose important documents

  • International passport
  • Driver’s license
  • ATM card
  • National ID
You will usually need a police report to replace them.

🥢 When you are involved in a car accident

Even if no one is injured, a police report helps for insurance claims and protects you if the other party changes the story later.

🥢 When you are assaulted or threatened

Don’t just complain verbally.
Report officially. A police report creates evidence in case the situation escalates.

When a tenant runs away owing rent and disappears
A police report helps show you took legal steps before taking further action.

🥢 When someone obtains money from you by false pretence

  • Online scam
  • Fake investment
  • Fake medical fundraising
A police report is important before legal recovery steps can begin.

🥢 When property is damaged or stolen

  • Burglary
  • Shop theft
  • Office break-in
Insurance companies will almost always ask for a police report.

Now understand this

A police report does not mean someone will automatically be arrested. It simply creates an official record that something happened.
Many people suffer losses because they “didn’t want stress” and failed to document the incident early.

When it comes to legal protection, documentation is power. If something serious happens, don’t just talk about it.
Put it on record.

Maize flour with Aflatoxins in Kenya: Full list

The Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kebs, has ordered for the immediate retrieval of close to 20 maize flour brands. According to Kebs, the suspended brands contain high levels of a dangerous poison called aflatoxin.

Aflatoxins are poisonous carcinogens and mutagens that are produced by certain molds (Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus) which grow in soil, decaying vegetation, hay, and grains.

This is not the first time that Kebs is suspending maize flour products in Kenya. In November, 2019, a number of maize flour brands were suspended but later allowed back in the market.

Most hit, in the recent crackdown, is Eldoret Grain Millers; whose three maize flour brands have been suspended.

Here is the full list of the suspended maize flour brands:

  • Hakika Best maize flour by Halisi Maize Mills
  • Dola from Eldoret Grain Millers
  • Sungura from Eldoret Grain Millers
  • Tetema from Eldoret Grains Limited
  • African King from African Kings Maize Millers
  • Unique from Ndosha Millers Limited
  • MLO from Bidii Millers
  • City Corn from Central Afya Bora Millers
  • Sarafina from Century Millers
  • Tosha from Godmesa Foods and Allied Millers Limited
  • Shiba from Grango Suba Millers
  • Budget from Karibu Four Mills
  • Wema from Luma Millers Limited
  • Jomba from Machakos Millers
  • Adardere Mupa from Mbaitu Maize Million Millers
  • Afya from Meru Multipurpose Cooperative Society Millers
  • Uzima from Sigose Unga Millers.

These maize flour brands were suspended on January 29, 2020.

Dola maize flour, Starehe, Two Ten Kifaru and Jembe maize flour were shortly suspended in November, 2019, before being allowed back on the shelves; days later.

Behold! The government to effect housing scheme deductions next month after striking a deal with COTU

The government will effect deductions from its Workers’ monthly pay to fund the ambitious housing scheme.

According to the Transport, Housing and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia the deductions will be rolled out next month; on 1st March, 2019. Consequently, workers both in the private and public sectors will contribute 1.5 percent, monthly, towards the scheme.

Macharia says the affordable housing project will be implemented after fruitful negotiations with workers’ union and employers. The Central Organization of Trade Unions, COTU, had last year obtained a court injunction stopping the deductions. Macharia, however, did not give details of their agreement with COTU.

“We had injunctions that halted the process but the parties have agreed to withdraw them so we are ready to proceed with the project,” CS Macharia said yesterday. The Kenya National Union of Teachers, KNUT, has also been raising a dissenting voice to the scheme which according to them will lead to reduction in teachers’ earnings.

The CS smnoted that the project will be launched soon. Macharia at the same time indicated that those who may fail to get the housing units will be reimbursed at retirement. “Those who do not get a house or already have one will get their money back when they retire. The only money that will not be refunded is the employers’ deduction,” Mr Macharia assured.

This comes after the government said, last week, that those earning above Ksh 100,000 monthly will now also benefit from the scheme; by acquiring the housing units

Catholic Bishops insist churches won’t be closed: COVID-19 shutdown

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, KCCB, has insisted that the Catholic places of worship will not be shut down due to CoronaVirus fears. According to the Bishops, the Churches will remain open so as Faithfuls can find solace and a place to run to. This goes against the Government’s directive on total shutdown of all social places and learning institutions.

“In the wake of the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Country and the world over, we are aware that there is heightened sensitivity and fear of further infections. On Sunday 8th March 2020, the Government of Kenya issued the directives on containing the spread of the virus. On Saturday 7th March 2020, we as the Bishops’ Conference had given some guidelines on how to curb the spread of the Coronavirus in our places of Worship,” Says Most Rev. Philip Anyolo who is the KCCB Chairperson.

Guidelines

In an effort to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, the Bishops have seen the need to give further Pastoral guidelines and precautionary measures in regard to the celebration of Holy Masses and other Liturgical activities. Here are the guidelines from the Bishops as contained in their signed memo dated March 19, 2020:

  • Catholic churches will remain open; they are not closing. They will be focal point of prayer, where faithfuls will find solace and strength from God.
  • The priests are asked to give Christ Faithful the messages of hope and encouragement. These messages touching on the Coronavirus must not create panic and anxiety, but rather, it should encourage the people to confront the current situation with serenity and courage knowing that we shall overcome the virus with the help of God.
  • The Holy Masses will continue to be celebrated in our churches but the Bishops’ Conference recommends that the Diocesan Bishops grant temporary dispensation from the Sunday Obligation for the next three weeks for any Faithful who may need it (c.f Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2181). However, those who are able to attend Sunday Mass may do so observing all the measures of prudence. At the same time, the Priests have asked to exercise caution in regard to large gatherings, that is, keeping the recommended distance of one metre. Priests to strictly exercise caution regarding the large gatherings. However, Masses should be brief.
  • Priests to be available to the Christians for Holy Communion outside the Mass, provided they do so in the Church in accordance with the Communion Rite. All Christians, especially those in restriction, are encouraged to continue benefiting from the Spiritual Communion or Communion of desire.
  • Those Christians who are impeded from attending Sunday Mass can also benefit from Live-streaming of celebration of Holy Mass through Televisions and Radio Stations. Catholic radios are urged to transmit live Masses.
  • The Bishops say there should be measures to discourage big events and Liturgical celebrations involving large gatherings of the Faithful.
  • In administering the Confession sacrament, the bishops discourage face-to-face confessions; and recommend that both the Confessor and the penitent should make use of the Confessionals provided within the linen device and preferably use protective masks.
  • For the time being, they discourage the celebration of the Masses in small Christian communities. Instead, priests can celebrate daily Masses in the main church or the Outstations for the intentions of the Christians taking into consideration one-metre distance.
  • On funerals, weddings, and Way of the Cross, the Bishops encourage the Priests and the Christian Communities to follow the directives given by the Government and the guidelines given by KCCB on limiting the number of participants and avoiding large crowds and common eating. They also ask for the suspension of all major National, Diocesan and Parish gatherings.
  • Those handling church offerings should wear protective devices, like gloves and masks where necessary.
  • The Bishops are asking our dear priests to celebrate Votive Masses of the Mercy of God as provided in the Sacramentary. In addition, they ask all believers to continue praying to God to end the coronavirus pandemic and pray for the quick recovery of the infected persons.
  • For other activities like Spiritual Programmes and Exercises, the priests should use their discretion in consultation with their Local Ordinaries and have recourse to the technology at our disposal.
  • Guidelines on the celebration of Sacraments and the Easter Celebrations will be given in due course.

The Bishops are asking Kenyans to keep observing the basic precautionary hygienic measures given by the Ministry of Health and KCCB that will help minimize the spread of the virus as well as protect oneself from being infected by COVID-19.

Video: Corrupt Policeman cornered by angry passengers, bribe snatched from him and shared

The actualization of ‘Michuki’ traffic rules has left most corrupt police officers exposed! The hunter became the hunted, yesterday, when passengers who had boarded a Matatu on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway and witnessed a corrupt police officer take a bribe confronted the police officer, took all the bribe money he had collected, after a lengthy scuffle. The helpless policeman had no option than to surrender all the day’s loot to the passengers.

The passengers then shared the loot among themselves, boarded their vehicle and drove off. See the video, on the link below ( Courtesy).

The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) Eastern Africa Regional Office opened in Nairobi, Kenya

The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) Eastern Africa Regional Office has been operationalized in Nairobi, Kenya.

This follows a decision by the African Heads of State and Government who during the 31st Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit, approved the transformation of the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) into the African Union Development Agency (AUDA). Part of the transformation included establishment of Regional Offices to strengthen the Agency’s coordination of programme implementation across the five African Regions (East, South, North, West and Central Africa).

After consultations, Kenya was identified as the most suitable location for setting up the Eastern Africa Regional office. This decision was guided by the country’s proven capacity, quality of facilities and conducive environment for hosting regional and international bodies. The visibility and active participation of the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat in African Union programmes also encouraged this resolution.

The Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the decision and has been instrumental in ensuring a smooth procedure in the establishment of the office, processing of documents including the Host Country Agreement as well as offering logistical support.

Following the operationalization, the office will commence coordination of one of its key initiatives, the African Biosafety Network of Expertise (ABNE) and later embark on working with AUDA-NEPAD country offices in the region on various programmes. These programmes, which form AUDA-NEPAD thematic pillars include Infrastructure, Regional Integration and Trade; Human Capital Development; Natural Resources Governance and Food Security; and Industrialization under which ABNE Falls. Currently the ABNE programme is implementing biosafety activities in 17 African Countries

The AUDA- NEPAD team was led by Prof. Aggrey Ambali, Director Industrialization, Science and technology and was received by the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat Ag. CEO Mr. Daniel Osiemo.

In his address, Prof. Ambali thanked the Kenya team for continued support and noted President Uhuru Kenyatta’s major contribution to continental programmes including the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) which underwent revitalization under his leadership. On his part, Mr. Osiemo welcomed the team saying it was an honor for Kenya to host the regional office and gave assurances of support from the national office.

Kenya not among the top countries with high teenage marriages prevalence

Kenya does not rank highly among the counties in the whole world with high prevalence of child marriages, a United Nations Report shows. This is despite the many pregnancy cases reported for candidates sitting this year’s  Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, examinations.

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), in October this year (2018) released a list of  20 countries in the world with highest prevalence of child marriage. The report shows that Niger ranks first with a 76 per cent prevalence. Central African Republic comes in second with 68 per cent, Chad 67 per cent, Bangladesh 59 per cent, Burkina Faso 52 per cent, and Mali 52 per cent.
