‘Jakadala’ disease claims are false- Migori county health officials say

Migori county health officials have moved to array fears over claims of a deadly viral disease; ‘Jakadala.’ This is after a graphic image of a man purpoted to be from Migori was shared online. The scaring image shows a man on a hospital bed with a badly mutilated genitalia.

According to Dr. Olouch, the Migori County executive in charge of health,  the county diseases surveillance team that has been on the ground for the past one week since the Jakadala outbreak claim started has not been able to come up with verifiable information to inform the outbreak of the disease.

The image shared with accompanying text, that reads in part, thus; “Shock as a sexually transmitted disease called Jakadala spreads fast in Migori, something that has worried medics in the County as they try to analyze the killer STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease)…”

Another version of the explanation reads; “The client admitted at Migori Hospital is a confirmed case of penile cancer and is already booked for penile amputation…”

Dr Oluoch now says the shared information is a  hoax, adding that the  County supplies enough condoms to the locals.

Zimbabwe’s founding leader Robert Mugabe has passed away at 95.
The Former Zimbabwe president, who reigned in power from 1980-2017 ,died in a Singapore hospital on Friday Morning 6th Of September 2019.

His death was confirmed by the Zimbabwean president Emerson Mnangagwa. “It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe’s founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe,” a post on Mnangagwa’s official presidential Twitter account said.

Here is President Uhuru’s condolence note;

“On behalf of the Government and the People of the Republic of Kenya and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Government and the People of the Republic of Zimbabwe following the death of former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe.

In this moment of sorrow, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family, his relatives and the people of Zimbabwe who, for many years, he served with commitment and dedication. TV station to offer free advertising services for Businesses, Safaricom, others urged to expedite to

Kenya’s Television Company, TV47, is set to offer free advertising on its TV station for Businesses so as to safeguard the public and mitigate the spread of the deadly Coronavirus Disease (COVID19).

“We at TV47 are in support of measures taken by the Government of Kenya to safeguard the public and keep livelihoods going.
In this regard, we wish to appreciate the business entities that are resilient and putting on the Kenyan spirit to sustain their businesses. We wish to support your business and the measures are taken to be at the forefront of championing COVID-19 awareness by giving you FREE advertising in our 24-hour, nation-wide TV station,” reads a presser from the Company.

“You can advertise your business and enumerate measures your company is taking to mitigate the spread of the virus. This initiative is geared towards providing a platform for continuous interaction with your clients and visibility of your business,” adds the memo.

This comes even as Kenyans continue to plead with other key service providers to cut charges so as to ease the burden cost. With the current curfew, most citizens (more so those working in twilight and wee hours) are finding it hard to satisfy their needs.

Giant Telecommunications Company, Safaricom responded by scrapping fees charged on sending amounts below Sh1,000 but this may not be sufficient as Kenyans want a review of call, SMS and internet costs.

Other utility companies that would consider revising charges include: The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), Airtel and Pay TV service providers (like DSTV, Zuku, Star Times, GoTV and others).

The scrapping of advertising cost by TV47 will be a welcome move for most companies struggling with the effects of the current COVID19 Pandemic; with job and pay cuts for employees looming. Interested companies or individuals can contact TV47 via Email at [email protected] or phone: 0748 205 604.

You will now be able to sell your avocados in china

Kenyans will now be able to sell their avocados in China. This follows a trade deal signed between kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday 25th April, 2019.

The signing of the agreement which makes Kenya the first African nation to export avocados to the Asian nation with a market of over 1.4 billion consumers comes after a long and comprehensive approval process that included Chinese experts visiting Kenyan farmers.

It is estimated that when the agreement is fully implemented, the Chinese market will absorb over 40 percent of Kenya’s avocado produce, making it one of the largest importers of the fruit. Other famous destinations of Kenyan avocado include Europe and the US.

Kenya has had close ties with the Chinese; who have advanced billions of shillings for infrastructural development in the East African country; including the construction of the Standard gauge railway. Avocado becomes the second farm produce from Kenya to access the expansive Chinese horticultural market after Stevia and will be followed by 13 other priority farm produce among them flowers, mangoes, French beans, peanut, vegetables, meat, herbs, bixa and macadamia.

The meeting between Presidents Kenyatta and Xi Jinping and their delegations focused on promoting economic and trade exchange in 8 key initiatives identified during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) meeting held in Beijing last year. These initiatives include industrial promotion, trade facilitation, infrastructure connectivity, green development and people-to-people exchange. Others are capacity building, healthcare, and peace and security.

In addition to the avocado deal, President Kenyatta witnessed the signing of an agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation covering all sectors of mutual interest and an MOU on joint promotion of the implementation of the 8 FOCAC priority areas.

President Kenyatta is in Beijing, China for a three-day working tour where he will also attend the Second Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation that will be officially opened by President Xi Jinping on Friday.

The President is accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya (Trade), Dr.Monica Juma (Foreign Affairs) and James Macharia (Infrastructure) among other senior government officials.

The BRF conference at the China National Convention Centre (CNCC) is being attended by world leaders from 37 countries, 5000 delegates drawn from 150 nations and representatives of 90 international organizations.

During the bilateral talks held at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing, President Kenyatta applauded China’s continued readiness to open its market to Kenyan products.

He said the solid partnership between the two countries has brought great benefits to the people of Kenya especially in areas of poverty alleviation and economic development.

On his part, President Xi Jinping thanked President Kenyatta for attending both the first BRF conference held in May 2017 as well as the current summit saying the Kenyan leader is a witness and core participant of the globally transformative Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) which aims at promoting global growth and economy through policy coordination among participating economies, infrastructure connectivity, trade investment and industrial cooperation.

President Xi Jinping further congratulated President Kenyatta for pursuing national reconciliation after his re-election in 2017 which he said has created a conducive environment for the implementation of the Kenyan government’s big 4 development agenda.

Speaking to the media shortly after the signing of the agreement on the export of frozen avocadoes into the Chinese market, Trade CS Peter Munya welcomed the deal and assured that it will immensely benefit Kenyan farmers especially small-holder growers of the crop by not only expanding the market but also improving the prices.

CS Munya encouraged farmers in avocado growing counties to take advantage of the new market by increasing the volumes of production and enhancing quality standards to meet the stringent Chinese regulations.

The 2019 Ramadan prayers- Police to beef up security for fear of Al-Shabaab attacks

The National Police Service (NPS) has moved to assure security Muslims during this Ramadan period.

“Following police initiative and requests from political and religious leaders, security has been intensified in order for Mosques to be secure for Muslims to conduct their prayers peacefully, and to avert possible Al-Shabaab attacks on Churches,” the police say.

Apart from fasting, Muslims across the country perform regular and Taraweeh prayers which extend to late night hours. This, according to the police, may expose the Muslim faithfuls to high insecurity.

The police warn that All Shabaab militia have a tendency of launching attacks against civilians during the Ramadan season.
“Al-Shabaab has a history of striking during Ramadan and emulating global jihadist groups’ modes of attack. In the Ramadan of June 2014 alone, 150 innocent lives were lost when Al-Shabaab fighters infiltrated the country and conducted heinous attacks in villages within Lamu and Tana River counties,” adds the police.

Al-Shabaab has also vowed to avenge the over 50 Muslim faithful killed in the Christchurch Mosque white supremacist attack in New Zealand. On 21st April 2019, AI Shabaab’s terror counterparts, the Islamic State, led the so called “revenge mission” by coordinating a spate of eight attacks against churches and hotels frequented by foreigners in Sri Lanka. Over 300 people were killed and 500 others were injured.

To justify their violent extremist activities, Al-Shabaab and their ilk thrive on misrepresenting religious texts such as those on the Battle of Badr which took on the 17th day of Ramadan, where the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the first Muslims attained the biggest victory against the Qureishi of Makkah.

“For a peaceful Ramadan and the subsequent Eid festivities, security agencies have deployed officers around areas of interest within our cities and in areas near the Kenya- Somalia border. More Police officers have been deployed for enhanced patrols,” the police assures.

Police are urging members of the public to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activities and individuals to security agencies using our toll-free lines: 999,911, and 112.

According to the Islamic Finder, ‘the 2019 Ramadan begun on Monday, 6th May 2019 and is expected to end on Tuesday, 4th June 2019. Eid al Fitr 2019 will be on Wednesday, 5th June 2019. This is the tentative date as the actual date is contingent on the sighting of the moon of Ramadan 2019, the 9th month in the Islamic calendar (Hijri 1440). The length of the Month varies between 29 and 30 days depending on the sighting of the Shawwal Moon which leads to the awaited festival of Eid ul Fitr on the 1st of Shawwal’.

How to own a home/ house under the affordable housing program; How to apply online

The Government of Kenya through the Kenya Housing Fund is set to roll out a mandatory housing scheme for all workers.
