The Connected Information Communication technology, ICT, Innovation Awards celebrate Kenyan enterprises that have launched new ICT products and services. The awards are designed to highlight the innovation that meets Kenya’s blueprint for vision 2030 to build a vibrant middle-income economy by the year 2030.

Kenya has won the bid to host the 2024 International Association of Science Parks and Innovation Areas conference in a voting done in Saville, Spain.
The bid was by Konza Technopolis Development Authority and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
According to MFA, Nairobi, Kenya got 84 votes ahead of Quebec Canada which garnered 18 votes.
Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) CEOJohn Tanui speaking recently at an investor’s forum said that the International Association of Science Parks and Innovation Areas brings over 300 members from 75 countries across the world with Konza being one of them and Kenya chairs the African continent.
“I also sit on the board of that global organization so we are able to see what is happening across the world in that space and this means we are connected to any other place of science and technology,” said the CEO.
He explained that Konza is a smart city in that it focuses on sustainability by concentrating on aspects such as zero net carbon emissions, energy efficiency and also using ICT as an efficient means of interaction, service delivery and ensuring quality of service and quality of life to the residents of the city.
“We are a city being built from scratch and very few cities in the world are built from scratch which is special in the region and the world at large,” said Tanui.
He explained that phase one of the Konza Technopolis vertical infrastructure is 80 percent complete providing the requisite amenities necessary for investors who have already started construction works for their investments.
Tanui said that the vertical infrastructure incorporates the roads, water, electricity, solid waste system, and all the other amenities for a city and they have constructed them in world class standards to ensure that the infrastructure is futuristic, resilient, sustainable and able to be a model for other developments in the country and regionally.
“We have some of the latest world class infrastructure at Konza. When we talk about roads, we are talking about street scapes where we have additional facilities like cycling lanes, green spaces, allocation for things like internet cables, water pipes, waste water among others,” said Tanui.

How to locate your lost Android device
1. Call your phone.
There might be chance someone has found the phone and is looking to return it to its owner.
2. Using Android Device Manager.

The only prerequisite is that your android device is still signed into your Google account, so if your device is stolen, and someone has signed out of your account, this method is not really effective.
3. View your Google location history.
This will help you identify where your phone was last seen, and if it still is signed into your Google account, it will be updating its location information to Google. This is a possible alternative in case android device manager fails.
4. Remotely install a security application.
To do this, your device must be signed into your account, and be connected to the internet. There are many great apps for this, but Android Lost is the one that stands out. It can remotely control nearly every aspect of your phone (And shows up in your launcher as Personal Notes)
5. Inform the police.
Law Enforcement Agencies can track down a phone, provided you have its IMEI (International Mobile Station Equipment Identity) number. If you don’t know your phone’s IMEI number, it can be found on the box the phone came in.
6. Find Your Phone with Android Wear Smartwatch
If you own an Android wear smartwatch then you can try calling your lost/misplaced phone by installing Google Device Manager in your smartwatch. All you have to do is to say is ‘Ok, Google. Start. Find my phone, and your phone will start ringing.
This is not a registration or a re-registration, it is a verification exercise. 100% of our customers are registered, however in August 2021, the mobile operators were asked by the Communications Authroity to ensure that each customer’s line had the requisite identification document attached to it.
Previously, registrations used to be electronic and this data was not necessarily captured by our agents. With this new ask, it meant that operators had to ensure that each line had the requisite documentation attached to it.
Must I visit a shop to do the validation exercise?
The law states that “a person must appear before the telecommunications operator or agent in person” as part of the registration process.
It is for this reason we are asking the customers who can present themselves at our shops to do so, so that we may verify their details against their ID documents. We have also unveiled an online portal to let people register from their homes.
What does one needs for this process?
Customers will need to present their ID and give us their signature for the validation process.
Where is this exercise being done?
Safaricom customers can undertake the activity at all Safaricom outlets as well as specialized Safaricom KYC Clinics which have been set up in areas like churches or community centres.
We caution all customers to only use these channels and not to engage any individual who may appear at their home or office claiming to be carrying out this exercise on behalf of Safaricom.
What if one has already registered their line previously, do they need to do this again?
All Safaricom customers are duly registered, however all operators are undertaking this initiative in line with a recent directive from the Communications Authority who has asked that every line in operation have an identity document attached to it.
Customers can establish if they need to provide this copy to their operator by dialing *106#.
What should I do once I dial *106#?
