Pioneer International University Approved Courses, Admissions, Intakes, Requirements, Students Portal, Location and Contacts

Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.

Section 7 of the Act, 2013 gives the powers and functions of the Authority to regulate and coordinate training; inspect, license and register and accredit training institutions; accredit and inspect programmes and courses; promote access and relevance of training programmes; determine the national technical and vocational training objectives; assure quality and relevance in programmes of training among other functions.

The available programmes, institutions, minimum entry requirements and the application procedure are always available on the KUCCPS Student’s Portal accessible through the Placement Service website www.kuccps.ac.ke. KUCCPS sets an application window within which the prospective students can submit their applications. Registration Process

Teachers/ Principal Members

All teachers in active service with Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) are automatically eligible for cover. The principal member is, however, required to register themselves and their dependants.
The registration process is done in two steps:
Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) registration and biometric registration.
Ensure you have the below mandatory details:
• TSC Number
• ID Number

Principal Member Registration

Step by step Guide:

Step 1: Dial *865# from your Safaricom or Airtel mobile phone number
Step 2: Key in your TSC and National ID Numbers when prompted. The details will be verified against the AON Minet database.
Step 3: If successful, you will be prompted to enter your name (surname and other name), role and gender. Once done, you will receive a message confirming your
successful registration onto the scheme and a prompt to register dependants.

Dependants Registration

THE REGISTRATION PROCESS
Step 1: Dial *865# from your Safaricom or Airtel mobile phone number
Step 2: Select the dependant you wish to register, i.e. spouse or child
Step 3: Enter Date of Birth, full name, ID Number/Birth Certificate Number

If not successful, kindly contact AON Minet on their call centre hotline numbers for further assistance.

THE BIO-METRIC REGISTRATION PROCESS

Biometric Registration is carried out at the service provider’s premises. It follows the steps below:
Step 1: Present yourself at the service provider on their active panel (you can access the list of active providers by dialing *340#)
Step 2: Identify yourself or your dependant with the TSC number
Step 3: The service provider will generate an SMS that contains the One-Time-Pin (OTP), sent to the principal member’s mobile number
Step 4: You will present this OTP to the service provider representative to kickstart the fingerprint registration
Step 5: You will be requested to place your index finger and thumb on the biometric device and the impressions will be recorded against your membership record
NB: Children under 5 years of age will be registered under either the parent or an
appointed guardian.

Sub County Schools in Kenya form the lowest cadre of secondary schools; after National, Extra County schools and County Schools, respectively. The schools admit students from majorly within the Sub country; from the immediate locality. The Schools are majorly of Mixed type; though there are a few single sex schools. Students joining these schools are mostly those with the low marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, exams. The schools are in most cases Day Schools; though some are Day and Boarding Schools. These schools form the majority of secondary schools in Kenya and are found in all Counties.

TSC and KUPPET discussions on the new 2021-2025 CBA for teachers; Latest news

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have held discussions on implementing a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, CBA, for teachers. TSC and KUPPET held a joint retreat from 29th October to 1st November 2019 at Sawela Lodges, Naivasha to lay grounds for the engagement of the CBA. Here is a presser signed jointly by Dr. Nancy Macharia (TSC Boss) and Mr. Akello Misori (KUPPET Secretary General);

Background

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) signed the 2017-2021 Collective Bargain Agreement (CBA) on 26th October, 2016 which came into force effectively 1st July 2017. The 2017-2021 CBAs ring fenced KSh. 54 billion for teachers’ salaries to be implemented in a period of four years. The Commission has successfully implemented three out of the four phases of the agreement. This has led to industrial stability in the teaching service. With only one phase remaining, TSC and KUPPET agreed to commence negotiations for the next cycle of CBA (2021-2025). In this regard, TSC and KUPPET held a joint retreat from 29th October to 1st November 2019 at Sawela Lodges, Naivasha to lay grounds for the engagement of the CBA.

1). Status of implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) 2017-2021

The Commission has implemented Phase Three of the CBA 2017-2021 for KUPPET members. It was appreciated that Career Progression Guidelines (CPG), Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD) and Teacher Professional Development (TPD) as the tools for full implementation of the CBA have led to professionalization of the teaching service.
Professionalization of the teaching service has greatly improved the image of the teaching service as the profession of choice in the Public Service.
The retreat discussed the implementation status of the current CBA; challenges met in the course of implementation; lessons learnt in the implementation; and factors to consider while preparing the next CBA (2021-2025).

Both parties took note of the need to compress the difference in wage between classroom teachers and institutional administrators. Parties underscored the need for continued equity and fairness in wage distribution in the teaching service and agreed that the issue be addressed during the 2021-2025 CBA negotiations.

2). Collective Bargaining Agreement for 2021-2025

Parties jointly agreed the factors to be put into consideration in negotiating the next CBA shall include: the cost of living adjustments, affordability, sustainability, comparability, government fiscal policies and guidelines, teacher performance and productivity. In addition, there may also be need to consider the implication of implementing Competency Based Curriculum and its impact on the job of the teacher.

Further, parties agreed on a comprehensive framework for 2021-2025 CBA negotiations and the procedures to be followed.
Parties have agreed to commence the journey on 1st November, 2019.

TSC and KUPPET teams jointly address the media at Sawela Lodge, Naivasha, at the end of a retreat to review status of implementation of the current CBA and to lay the groundwork for negotiations of a new CBA.

3. Other issues discussed

(a) The need for TSC to fast-track issuance of promotion letters to all teachers who have been promoted since 1st July, 2017;
(b) Consider career progression path for Diploma teachers.
(c) Consider career progression path for special needs education teachers.
(d) The need for teachers to be acquainted with the legal instruments governing their employment especially the Career Progression Guidelines to enable them take advantage of the promotional adverts for career growth.
