The first batch of five Kenya National football team players have on Saturday, October 6, 2018, jetted out to Ethiopia alongside coach Sébastien Migné, ahead of the upcoming two-legged Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Ethiopia.
The second batch will travel on Monday, with foreign-based players also set to link up with the team in Ethiopia on the same day.
Coach Migné, in the meantime, has expressed optimism that Stars will give a good account of themselves while noting that captain Victor Wanyama’s inclusion is a big boost to the team’s pursuit for a second appearance at the continental showpiece.
“Of course it won’t be easy against Ethiopia since they are also equally strong, but my players are up to the task and I am confident we will get a positive result,” said coach Migné.
“We won against Ghana without our captain, it will be morale boosting for us to also win with him. He is one of our most experienced players and will be crucial for us against Ethiopia,” he added.
The match has been slated for Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at the Bahir Dar Stadium, with the return leg set to be played on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the MISC Kasarani.

Education Cabinet Secretary, Ambassador Amina Mohammed, has refuted claims that the full implementation of the new Competence Based Curriculum, CBC, has hit a snag. Amina says that all interventions have been put in place to ensure full roll out the new curriculum in January 2019. CS Amina was speaking at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum studies after leading a consultative meeting on curriculum implementation, today. Amb amina chaired the Multi-Sectoral National steering committee on curriculum Reform as part of an ongoing intensive review process to assess the implementation of the new curriculum. Last week, the Kenya Publishers’ Association lamented on the government’s sluggishness in providing guidance and resources for development of the new curriculum. The Publishers said they have not prepared instructional materials for grade four, ahead of the new 2-6-3-3-3 education system full roll out. CS Amina added that “mobile phones will not be allowed in schools. In fact, only centre managers will be authorized to have these devices and the phones will be monitored. As we commence this year’s examinations period, we count on all our colleagues to assist in delivering credible processes and outcomes. Our country deserves this, the children deserve this, their teachers deserve this and the future demands this”.
Yesterday, the Parliamentary Committee on Education faulted the Ministry, of Education, for failing to provide updates on its preparedness for the forthcoming National examinations. Led by Hon. Julius Melly, the Tinderet Member of Parliament who is also the chair to the committee, the MPs said they had summoned CS Amina to shed more light on the fate of the over 4,000 students affected by insecurity in various parts of the country.
But, speaking to the media today at the KICD, in Nairobi, the Education CS reiterated the Government’s commitment in ensuring that the new curriculum is rolled out next year, as scheduled. “Going forward, we plan to supply necessary Curriculum materials to all schools to enhance the learning and teaching environment”, Amina told journalists. The CS who has been out of the Country for official duty assured teachers that they will get adequate training in order to handle the new Competency Based Curriculum. “We also plan to step up the level of preparedness among teachers to handle the CBC. We plan to hold the third National conference in Curriculum reforms in December of this year”, Amina added.
Ambassador Amina exuded confidence that full roll out of the CBC for grade one to three will go on as planned, next year.
Elsewhere, the Education PS, Dr. Belio Kipsang, has suspended annual leaves for all education officers till examinations are over. In a Circular to all Regional Coordinators of Education, RCEs, the PS directed that all educational officers on leave to resume duty immediately. The officers are required to help in administering the National examinations.
In a rejoinder, the interior cabinet secretary, Dr. fred Matiang’i, has assured of adequate security during the examination period. “It is inflexible commitment; almost militaristic to support clean exams. We will provide all the security we need”, said the fiery and no nonsense Cabinet Secretary, who initially led the Education docket where he introduced far reaching reforms. Speaking at Kereri Girls Secondary School in Kisii County, yesterday ,while commissioning a new dormitory, Dr. Matiang’i promised thorough interventions from his Ministry to ensure that the examinations will proceed smoothly.
” This year, the change that you are going to see from my end, of Security, in terms of managing the exams will be much more swift than we were last year in getting the crooks”, Matiang’i said. Already, the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, chairman Prof. George Magoha has highlighted areas and individuals under the spotlight for examination related malpractices.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers, KNUT, has issued a threat to take unspecified action if the Teachers service Commission, TSC, does not call them to a meeting in a span of seven days. This comes after the TSC wrote to KNUT, on 17th October 2018, postponing talks that were to be held today (Friday 19 October, 2018); between TSC AND KNUT. Read more details here:TSC Cancels Meeting with KNUT.
In a letter dated 18th October 2018, the KNUT Secretary, Hon. Wilson Sossion, blames TSC for mistrust and mischief over the latter’s move to cancel today’s talks. Today’s meeting was to highlight unresolved industrial issues raised by KNUT. The two sides failed to agree on these issues when they met in Naivasha few weeks ago. “You will note that as early as July 2018, we formally raised several pertinent issues affecting harmonious industrial relationships which called for urgent interventions,” says Sossion in the letter addressed to the TSC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Nancy Njeri Macharia. “Flowing from the said issues and demands, a meeting was convened on 24th August, 2018, after protracted exchange where certain agreed issues were tabled and way forward agreed. This way forward was to have a retreat in Naivasha where there aborted discussions owing to (the) hard line and unreasonable position taken by (the) Teachers Service Commission (TSC),” Sossion adds. The KNUT Secretary General says that the two sides had on 6th September, 2017, agreed that promotions of teachers by the TSC was mandatory. But, he blames TSC for renegading on this position and introducing ‘CPG Policies and Appraisals which utterly contradicts the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT), hence illegal.’
Teachers with higher qualifications have been waiting in the cold since 2014 when the TSC freezed promotions on attainment of higher qualifications. KNUT projects the numbers of such teachers at about 30,000. On Tuesday, this week, the KNUT Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Hesbon Otieno, issued a memo to all branch secretaries to collect data on teachers who had submitted their higher qualification credentials to the TSC for promotion. Read more details here:KNUT to collect data for teachers with higher qualifications ahead of Friday’s meeting with TSC
Sossion now wants the Commission to convene a meeting in seven days, effective yesterday, to address the unresolved issues. “In the circumstances, we hereby demand that within the next seven (7) days, a meeting be convened to which steps and actions will be taken without any reference to you,” Sossion, further, says. The letter is copied to the Education Cabinet Secretary, Amb. Amina Mohammed, Hon. Ukur Yatani, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of East African Community, Labour and Social Protection, Hon. Julius Kibiwott Melly, the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Education, Research and Technology, among others. This timeline will expire on 25/10/2018 and by then most schools should have closed for forms 1,2 and 3.

Under fire Manchester united manager has today stripped off the vice captaincy role from Frenchman Paul Pogba. The Manchester United Midfielder, who transferred from Juventus for a World record fee in 2016, fell out with Mourinho last season and remained a subject of a possible transfer away from the Old Trafford, during the off season.

Mourinho told Pogba that he is no longer the club’s vice captain due to his poor attitude, hours before today’s schedule training. “The only truth is that I made the decision for him not to be second captain any more but there is no fallout, no problem,” Mourinho was quoted by the British media today. “I am the manager, I can make these decisions”, Mourhino said. The united Tactician was physically angered by Pogba’s error that led to Wolve’s equalizer at Old Trafford on Saturday, 22/09/2018, during a premier league clash. After the match, Pogba went on to criticize Manchester United’s lack of attacking mentality. “We are at home and we should play much better against Wolves. We are here to attack”, Pogba said, over the weekend.
In the video above (Courtesy of Sky Sports), leaked online, Pogba is screened in a training ground bust up with coach Jose Mourinho, yesterday. The relationship between Mourinho and Pogba has been frosty, since last season.
Pogba, the world cup winner with the French team, was not named in the matchday squad against derby, last night, in which Manchester United lost 8-7 via past match penalties. Pogba watched from the sidelines as Ashley Young captained the side. Paul Pogba has been captaining the Manchester united this season in the absence of defender Antonio Valencia.

Things seem to be murkier for the United squad who lie at position 7 with 10 points from 6 matches. They trail leaders Liverpool who have amassed a total of 18 points from a perfect hundred percent win in all the 6 matches played, so far.
Manchester United’s next assignment is away at West Ham united on Saturday 29th September, 2018, in an early kick off clash.
