The teachers Service Commission, TSC, has laid plans geared towards the introduction of Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Training. Through an advert christened: “CONSULTANCY SERVICE FOR DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A SCHOOL BASED TEACHER SUPPORT SYSTEM (SBTSS) FOR ENGLISH SUBJECT,” the TSC has asked organizations with training capacity to apply for consideration to design the TPD school based courses. The first phase of this training will cover piloting of English delivery in both primary and secondary schools in some selected sub- counties countrywide.
The advert reads:
“The overall aim of this assignment is to enhance continuous Teacher Professional Development(TPD) for teachers of English subject. The consultancy will provide technical support to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to develop and implement the school based teacher support system for the English subject in targeted sub-counties.”
The winning consultancy contract bidder shall be expected to:
(i) Support TSC to establish a School Based Teacher Support System (SBTSS) aimed at
providing professional development training in subject matter as well as pedagogical content knowledge to teachers of English in the targeted sub-counties.
(ii) Support TSC in monitoring and evaluation of these activities including data collection, analysis and preparation of reports. This activity is based on results based financing modality. The institution will therefore be required to support the TSC in collection and validation of the required data for the relevant Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs) and relevant indicators in the project’s results framework.
An independent firm will be recruited separately to review and verify
results achieved under the SBTSS program for the English subject, and other DLIs under this project.
Once rolled out, teachers shall be expected to attend the training during holidays.“During the SBTSS initial phase, training will be provided for about 5,667
primary school teachers and 1,700 secondary school teachers for English in
targeted sub counties at INSET school based centres. Based on the evaluation of
the first two years of implementation of SBTSS, the intervention will be scaled
up to cover all primary and secondary teachers of English in the over 5,500
primary schools and additional 1,500 secondary schools in the targeted subcounties.” The advert further states.
The training shall be executed during the current Collective Bargaining Cycle, CBA. “The assignment will be undertaken over a six-year period between January 2018 and October
2022 and will have a total duration of 12 months per year. The first phase of this assignment will commence in January 2018 or shortly thereafter and will involve design of SBTSS implementation plan and verification of TPAD data on teachers’ performance gaps in
English,” reads the advert.
Selected Counties for the piloting include: Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Garissa, Homa Bay, Isiolo, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kilifi, Kisii, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit, Migori, Murang’a, Nandi, Narok, Samburu, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi, Turkana, Wajir and West Pokot.
Expression of Interest documents (One original and a copy) must be delivered in written form by 31st October, 2018 at 11.00 a.m
CS Migos: Mathematics Should Continue to Be Required in All Senior School Programs.
Following extensive discussions and input from stakeholders, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Migos has declared that Mathematics will continue to be a required subject across all senior high school courses under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
During a discussion held on Tuesday, CS Migos said that the majority of participants at the most recent CBC debate argued that mathematics should be a required course because of its fundamental importance in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills in all fields.
“The majority of the stakeholders during the CBC dialogue were of the view that Mathematics should be compulsory in senior school,” CS Migos stated. “We have listened to your concerns, consulted with KICD, and reached a resolution that some form of Mathematics be made compulsory for the other two pathways that are not STEM.”
The CBC framework provides three options for upper school students: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); Social Sciences; and Arts and Sports Science. The STEM track had previously placed a major emphasis on mathematics.
This change is meant to align instruction and make sure that all students, regardless of their chosen path, acquire fundamental numeracy abilities that are useful in both daily life and the modern workplace.
The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) will provide more information about the curriculum development and implementation of the non-STEM courses in due time.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced the opening of the application portal for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and the TVET institutions across the country.
In a notice dated Friday, January 24, KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome announced that they were targeting students who sat for their KCSE examinations in 2024.
This was done in advance to enable the students to enrol at the institutions for the March intakes.
Meanwhile, the application portal for universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) will be open at a later date, yet to be announced.
“Universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) normally have their intakes later in the year while KMTC and TVETs admit theirs in January. March and May, hence the need to have a phased application process to enable students to transition to colleges promptly,” Wahome explained.
How to Apply.
Students whose grades enable them to apply for the courses were advised to visit the placement portal – https://students.kuccps.net/ for information on the available programmes and institutions.
“Noting that KMTC recently increased opportunities in Community Health programmes and introduced a Diploma in Health Insurance Management to provide skilled workers for the Universal Health Care programme, and a Diploma in Mortuary Science to provide professionally trained morticians, she encouraged students to apply for the courses,” read the notice in part.
Students were also encouraged to pick institutions that are closer to their homes as it will save money.
The portal will remain open for 21 days and will be closed on February 14, 2025.
“Form Four leavers who sat the KCSE examination from the year 2000 to 2024 are eligible to apply for the slots. Applications for degree programmes and TTCs will follow thereafter at dates that will be announced,” KUCCPS added.
“Candidates who will re-sit their KCSE examination this year will have an opportunity to apply for KMTC and TVET programmes, using their improved grades, for the September intake.”

Here is the Athletics Kenya calendar of events for 2018/ 2019 (Courtesy of AK):
The Kenya Union of Post -Primary Education Teachers, KUPPET, National Executive Board, led by the National Chairman, held a consultative meeting on Wednesday 2nd July 2025, with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) regarding the 2025-2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The Commission acknowledged receipt of the KUPPET Memorandum of Demands/Proposed CBA that was presented in October 2024, which according to the TSC comprehensively covered what it would take to have a highly-motivated, well-remunerated and supported teaching fraternity to meet the needs of the country’s education sector.
The Commission accepted that currently, teachers were demotivated, with many grievances over pay and working conditions.
The Commission also accepted that issues of the teachers’ CBA should be carefully handled since the teachers contribute not only to education but the stability of the country.
The Commission said they were in advanced consultations within the government, including but not limited to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
While recognizing the Commission’s position, KUPPET reminded the Commission that the teaching fraternity was now operating in a vacuum, since the 2021-2025 CBA had expired on 30th June 2025.
The union demanded a strict timeline within which the Commission should conclude their consultations and table a counter-offer to the KUPPET proposal.
The Commission committed to finalize its consultations and present a counter-offer to KUPPET on or before 20th July 2025.
Given that firm commitment by the Commission, the union appeals to our members to remain calm as we await the counter by TSC on or before 20th July 2025.
