3.0 INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES TO TEACHERS, CANDIDATES, CENTRE MANAGERS, SUPERVISORS AND INVIGILATORS

3.1 INSTRUCTIONS TO TEACHERS

Teachers are advised to ensure that the candidates read these instructions and guidelines carefully and adhere to them. The candidates should be made aware of the penalties for examination irregularities or misconduct.

3.2 INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

3.2.1 Avail yourself for searching outside the assessment room and be seated at your desk/table 15 minutes before the time scheduled for the paper. Morning sessions will start at 8.30 a.mfollowed by the second session as indicated on the timetable.

3.2.2 A candidate who arrives late will be required to give a satisfactory reason to the Supervisor. Only in exceptional circumstances will a paper be given to any candidate who is more than half an hour late. Absolute punctuality is essential for all papers.

3.2.3 Check to ensure that each page of your question paper is printed.  Ensure that your name, assessment number have been written correctly on the Question Paper/answer script, sign and write the date of the assessment on the answer booklet.

Click here to Download Grade 9 KJSEA 2025 Knec Timetable

3.2.4 If the questions indicate that a map or other material should have been provided, and they are not, inform the Supervisor at once.

3.2.5 Attend carefully to any general instructions that may be given on the first page of a paper, e.g. instructions limiting the number of questions that should be answered.

3.2.6 Write on both sides of the paper, but do not use the margins.  Begin the answer to each separate part of a question on a fresh line.

3.2.7 Write the number of the question clearly in the left-hand margin at the beginning of each answer.  Do not copy the question.  Be careful to use the same system of numbering as appears in the question paper.  Leave a blank line after the answer to each question.

3.2.8 Write your responses in black or blue ink.  You may use fountain pen or ball point pen but not erasable pens.  Pencil should only be used for diagrams.  Bring mathematical and drawing instruments for subjects for which they will be needed.

Click here to Download Grade 9 KJSEA 2025 Knec Timetable

3.2.9 Read each question carefully.  A lot of time may be wasted in writing down information that is not asked for and no marks will be given for it.

3.2.10 Do not spend too much time on one or two questions. Leave yourself adequate time to answer other questions.

3.2.11 As soon as notice is given to stop, make sure your name, assessment number, signature and the date of the assessment are written on the answer booklet and then hand it over to the supervisor/invigilator.

3.3 CAUTION TO CANDIDATES

3.3.1 You are not allowed to leave the assessment room before the end of the period allocated for the paper except with special permission from the Supervisor. No candidate so permitted to leave may take a question paper or answer sheet/script out of the assessment room.

Click here to Download Grade 9 KJSEA 2025 Knec Timetable

3.3.2 Do not leave a sheet of paper you have written on or your answers in such a position that another candidate can read them. You should not give or obtain unfair assistance, or attempt to do so, whether by copying or in any other way, and your work should not show proof of such unfair assistance.

3.3.3 No communication whatsoever in whatever manner between candidates or with outsiders is allowed during the assessment.

2022 Kcse, KCPE examiners to receive pay this week

The Government will start paying dues owed to examiners of the 2022 Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) national examinations, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has said.

CS Machogu said the Sh. 2 billion had been set aside for that purpose to ensure all outstanding dues were paid to the KNEC examiners, contracted officials, and suppliers.

Speaking on Saturday at Kangaru School in Manyatta Constituency, Embu, during the inaugural Education Day by area MP Gitonga Mukunji, the CS said going forward his ministry will prioritize prompt payment to examiners to ensure no such delays will be experienced again.

He said the delay was occasioned by a cash crunch at the council that forced it to maintain the pending bill for over six months from the time the exercise was completed.

Machogu said they had already started paying contractors who undertook the construction of Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) classes their dues amounting to Sh. 2.5 billion.

He at the same time said the ministry will be employing 25,000 teachers this financial year in addition to the 30,000 employed last year to reduce the student-teacher ratio.

“We are committed to keep improving the quality of our education by ensuring we have enough teachers in our schools,” he said

He hailed the program initiated by the MP that will see learners in secondary school given career guidance and counseling by various stakeholders and professionals as a game changer in shaping the future career paths of young minds.

The CS called on other constituencies to follow suit to equip students with career knowledge early enough.

MP Mukunji said the program will be an annual event that will also be used to award the best-performing schools and students in academics.

He rooted for a return to the ranking of schools in national examinations, saying it will bring back the spirit of competition which was good for learners.

“The schools performing poorly will be challenged to work harder while best performers will equally have to put more effort to maintain their position,” Mukunji said.

He further said he had initiated a digitization program in all public primary and secondary schools to equip learners with technological knowledge early in life that will also expose them to the world of online jobs.

Mukunji said the project will involve putting up computer laboratories with internet connectivity.

Other leaders present during the occasion include EALA Member Godfrey Maina and Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe.

IKUU BOYS HIGH SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY

Ikuu Boys’ High School was started in 1964 as a provincial day secondary, in the grounds presently occupied by Ikuu Girls High School. It was started under the sponsorship of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA). The school moved to its current location in 1965 to get closer to the Meru – Nairobi highway. Local people donated land and provided resources to construct the school.

The school remained single stream up to 1978 when the second stream was introduced. In 1981 the school opened its doors to ‘ A’ Level classes. In 1996 the school expanded to three streams and continued to expand its facilities. In 2006 the quality assurance and standard officers in their assessment recommended upgrading the school to provincial boarding status and decided to register it as a four stream school. However, the school lacked facilities to fully accommodate the fourth stream and was given time to develop. In 2012 the school became a fully four stream. In the same year was upgraded to a national school following a steady and consistent improvement in performance. The first national class was admitted in 2013. The school has a projection of having five streams by 2017.

Ikuu boys’ has posted very good results over the years. In 1989 the ‘ A’ Level class was ranked position eleven (11) nationally. In respect to the 8.4.4 system the school has shown gradual improvement up to a mean score of 9.341 in 2015. The performance index has been above 95% for students joining university i.e. C+ and above. For more than fifteen years the school has remained among good performers in the country. The school has also competed favorably in co-curricular activities with entries to national in Drama, Music, Science and engineering fair and games in the last couple of years.

School Infrastructure
The school currently has 18 permanent classes to cater for the broad curriculum and increased enrollment. The school has six dormitories and one ultra-modern hostel, 12 teachers’ houses, modern administration block, four science laboratories, a computer laboratory, a well-stocked spacious library, an expansive dining hall cum multipurpose hall, 6 Ablution blocks and two school buses (62 and a 67seater.)
The school farm supplies fruits, meat, pork, milk and vegetables. It also provides timber and firewood.

Enrollment
This encompasses the teachers and students. The school having started in 1964has had the following structure in enrollment.

  • 1964–1977 – Single stream
  • 1978–1995 – Double stream
  • 1996–2006 – Three streams
  • 2006–To date – Four streams

The number of Teachers has been increasing gradually in relation to increase in students enrollment. The current enrollment of 809 students has posed many challenges to the teaching staff and infrastructure. It is now critical that the institution gets more teachers to cater for the growing student population if it has to operate within the confines of its mission and vision
