Never expose learners to Covid19- KNEC contracted professionals warned

KCPE Exams 2021- The Kiambu sub-county Director of Education Mrs. Roselyne Litaba  has  cautioned examination  Centre managers and supervisors against exposing the candidates in the name of security checks.

Mrs. Litaba reminded the supervisors, head teachers and invigilators to observe Covid 19 protocol at all times and avoid engaging in unnecessary checks and activities that could compromise the health of the candidates.

She cited an incident that was aired on one of the local Television stations in which a teacher was filmed checking the masks of the pupils before they embarked on writing the examinations.

The director regretted that it was a wrong move because the supervisor who was doing that could easily spread the virus if he was exposed or contaminated.

“Don’t touch the masks of the candidates under whatever circumstances” she warned.

Related news;

Talking to KNA from her office, prior to the opening of the Examination container, Ms. Litaba revealed that one of the candidates from a school in Nairobi was writing his examinations from Kiambu level 5 hospital.

The 15-year-old boy had been admitted to the health facility in mid-February with burns and that the hospital had communicated with her office to facilitate him with revision material to assist him prepare for the National examinations.

She observed that following the notification to her office, the examination team had made arrangements to facilitate the ailing boy with his examination papers beginning from yesterday. “Today are still availing the papers to him because he is yet to recover” she noted.

She however impressed on the supervisors to keep safe and handle the candidates carefully so as to encourage them to do their best despite the difficult times they had gone through during the long holiday occasioned by Covid-19.

Kiambu Deputy county commissioner Mr. Titus Macharia in his address to the team called on them to be vigilant, observant and supportive to the candidates so as to give them moral support in what they were doing.

He added that it was a government directive to ensure that the National examinations were handled competently in a conducive environment that did not cause the pupils any tension.

Elsewhere, from the Juja sub-county, the Sub-county director of Education Mr. Peter Kariuki while addressing the Center managers, reminded them that they to be accompanied by respective security officers.

He however clarified that the security personnel were not the ones entrusted to carry the examination papers. He added that those ferrying the papers were not allowed to use their personal vehicles but that they could share transport with their colleagues going the same directions via the authorized school buses or vans.

He added that the exams must be collected on completion by the center managers who should have their badges on.

According to a KNA spot-check, all those who appeared at the container to collect the examinations had observed social distance and wore their masks appropriately.

CS Machogu to announce KCPE 2022 results today

The over 1.2 million candidates who sat the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams will know their results today. This after a longer wait occasioned by absence of President William Ruto from the country.

Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, will release the results at the new Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) offices after briefing the President.

CS Machogu has said the results are clean and with no irregularities.

“We put the necessary measures in place and I assure you there will be no cheating because we had personal accountability at an individual level from the centre manager to the security personnel, supervisors and invigilators,” said CS Machogu.

To get the results, send your full index number to the Knec SMS code 20076; immediately the results are announced.

The release of the results will be followed by the 2023 form one selection exercise.

Schools re-open on January 23, 2023 for the new academic year; as the school calendar normalizes.

Knec 2022 exam leakages- CS Machogu Speaks

Be Wary Of Exam Fraudsters, Education CS Warns

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has asked members of the public to report any attempts of examination leakages received through the phone, while cautioning against resending of such messages.

Machogu said that the public needed to be wary of fraudsters who take advantage of the national examinations to con unsuspecting members of the public by claiming to be in possession of examination papers.

He asked Kenyans to report any such culprits to the relevant authorities for quick action.

The CS said that they are working with the Communications Authority of Kenya and the department of ICT to nab anyone trying to spread messages or screenshots that purport to be genuine examination papers.

“We are working closely with ICT and the Communications Authority and in case you get anything on the phone purporting to be the examination papers, do not pass it on, but rather report to the security personnel. “If you share them to others then you will be considered as an accomplice,” warned the CS.

Machogu further revealed that that the government has sought services of the Cyber Crime experts whom he reiterated will be keeping an eye on social media criminals who have been conning the public in the name of selling genuine examination papers.

The CS spoke during a stakeholders meeting on the upcoming national examinations, where he urged the center managers to work with integrity by doing everything possible to protect the sanctity of the upcoming national Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

“I want to assure that this year’s examination has not and will not be leaked. I urge the center managers to ensure there is no exposure of any question paper. Firm action will be taken against you if you do otherwise, and the students’ results will be annulled,” he warned.

The CS further assured that the government has made all arrangements to ensure credible examinations, adding that there have not been any compromises whatsoever.

“We have confirmed that all is well, there are no leakages nor exposure and no one is aware of the contents of the exam papers. The integrity of the examination has not been compromised at any given stage,” he stated.

Machogu pointed out that the success and failure of the exams will be determined by the center managers and was optimistic that they will give their best in ensuring the success of the whole exercise.

“The success or failure of the upcoming KCSE, KPSEA and KCPE will be determined by your actions. Failure is not an option. I have confidence that you will make Kenya proud by ensuring all the rules and regulations are followed to the latter,” he stated.

The CEO Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Dr. David Njeng’ere Kabita said that it was the responsibility of the teachers to make their students understand that this year’s exam papers have not been touched and that they should not fall prey to fraudsters.

“These papers have not been touched by anyone. Please do not interfere with them and if you fall for fraudsters and give these fake papers to your students then you are setting them up for failure. There are rules and regulations and contravening them is punishable,” he warned.

2022 Grade 6 exams results out on Monday

Grade 6 learners who sat for the inaugural Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) in 2022 will know their results on January 16, 2023.

According to the Kenya National Examinations Council CEO, David Njeng’ere, KNES will release three reports.

A total of 1,287,597 Grade Six pupils sat their KPSEA exams between November 28 and November 30.

Individual learners, school-specific reports, and the national report on school-based and summative assessment are the three reports.

The national report will highlight the areas that require assistance as well as the number of learners at each performance level per topic who require intervention.

The individual school report will be tailored to each school and will highlight areas where students face difficulties and where schools require further assistance

The KPSEA candidates, like the KCPE candidates, took five multiple-choice exam papers. They took Math, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, Creative Arts, and Social Studies classes.

KPSEA Results Will Not Be Used For Placement Of Learners In Junior Secondary Schools

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) results will not be used for placement of learners in Junior Secondary Schools.

The KPSEA report will, however, be part of the process of monitoring of learner progress.

“The national report will provide feedback to education stakeholders on areas that require intervention. The report will indicate the proportion of learners at each of the performance levels per subject where perhaps we need to do some interventions,” says KNEC CEO David Njengere.

“All these are going to be uploaded on the school portals by 16th of January, 2023,” Njengere added.

Each of the institutions that enter candidates for the KNEC examinations shall receive a hard copy of the institution’s examination results printout and result slips which captures the following information:
1. Institution’s Code and Name
This appears on the top left side of the printout.  The institution’s code is a unique number by which an examination centre is identified by the Council.  This is the number that an institution should always quote whenever communicating with KNEC.
2. Candidates Details
Below the institution’s name and code are details of the candidates.  These details include the index number of the candidate, year of examination, gender, individual subject grades and the mean grade.
The important features of the examination results are as indicated below:-

  • X – denotes an absent candidate. A candidate is declared absent if he/she did not sit for one or all papers in the examination. However, for the KCPE examination results, the symbol AB indicates an absence;
  • Y- denotes that the candidate was involved in an examination irregularity. For the KCPE examination results, the symbol 00 indicates an irregularity;
  • P- denotes that the candidate’s examination results have been pended due to infringement on the entry requirements for the examination e.g. incorrect KCPE details for entry in KCSE examination;
  • W– denotes that the candidate’s examination results have been withheld on suspicion that the candidate has been involved in an examination malpractice and investigations are ongoing;
  • U- denotes ungraded examination results due to infringement of the awards criteria.

Mean Grade Award Descriptions

  • Mean grade will be X, if a candidate is absent in all subjects
  • Mean grade will be Y , if one or more subjects are cancelled
  • Mean grade will be U, if the entry requirements for the KCSE examination are not met
  • Mean grade will be CRNM, if the course requirements for the Teacher education, Business and Technical examinations are not met
  • Mean grade will be P, if results are pended
  • Mean grade will be W, if the examination results are withheld;

The details of pended, withheld and irregularities are communicated to the institution through the Sub County Director of Education at the time of release of the examination results and are received by the institutions at the same time with the examination results.

Release Of Certificates

Once certificates for a specific examination are ready for collection/dispatch from KNEC, the institutions shall be informed through the mass and print media, Sub County Directors of Education and/or the heads of institutions:

  • All certificates for regular candidates are issued through the Heads of Schools/Institutions and to private candidates through the Sub County Directors of Education.
  • The Kenya National Examinations Council reserves the right to withdraw a certificate for amendment or for any other reason should this be necessary.
