CS Machogu to announce KCPE 2022 results today

The over 1.2 million candidates who sat the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams will know their results today. This after a longer wait occasioned by absence of President William Ruto from the country.

Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, will release the results at the new Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) offices after briefing the President.

CS Machogu has said the results are clean and with no irregularities.

“We put the necessary measures in place and I assure you there will be no cheating because we had personal accountability at an individual level from the centre manager to the security personnel, supervisors and invigilators,” said CS Machogu.

To get the results, send your full index number to the Knec SMS code 20076; immediately the results are announced.

The release of the results will be followed by the 2023 form one selection exercise.

Schools re-open on January 23, 2023 for the new academic year; as the school calendar normalizes.

Governor Kenneth Lusaka has criticized a section of teachers who exited Lugulu girls for allegedly contributing to the withholding of the school’s 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Educations (KCSE) results by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

Speaking during the funeral service of Mama Cecelia Nanyama Kerre in Kamukuywa, Governor Lusaka said some teachers who were transferred for various reasons fought back by writing letters to KNEC.

“It’s very dangerous and a great shame to witness stakeholders in education play politics with the very institutions they are supposed to safeguard,” Governor Lusaka remarked. “The incident at Lugulu Girls, our giant school in the region, is completely unacceptable. Teachers should propel the quality of education and desist from playing ostrich politics.”

The governor condemned any form of politicking in schools, warning that such actions would not be tolerated. He urged educators to focus on their role in improving academic standards rather than engaging in activities that compromise the integrity of learning institutions.

Lusaka, while commending schools in Bungoma County for their exemplary academic performance, reiterated his commitment to supporting education and enhancing quality in the sector.

On Thursday, January 9, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the results for 2,829 candidates across the country had been withheld.

Ogamba revealed that the decision followed suspected exam malpractices and irregularities, adding that the results would remain suspended pending further investigations.

“The council is empowered in law as provided in KNEC handling of examination irregularities rules of 2015 legal notice no 132 of 2015 rule no 8 to withhold the results of any candidate or examination center suspected of having been involved in exam irregularities or malpractice pending completion of investigations,” CS Ogamba stated.

“To this end the results of 2, 829 candidates suspected to have been involved in examination irregularities have been withheld pending completion of investigations that should be completed within a period of 30 days from the official release of exams which is today.”

And it dawned on Lugulu Girls that they were among the schools whose results had been withheld by Knec.

The school’s management has appealed to candidates and their parents to remain patient as they pursue the release of the results through the official appeal channels with the examination council.

“Dear Parent/Guardian, we are aware that your child has not yet received their examination results. Please rest assured that the matter is being addressed, and the results will be made available to you in due time. Further communication will follow,” the school principal, Dinah Cheruiyot, reassured them in a letter.

Western Region Director of Education Jared Obiero confirmed that the results for Lugulu Girls were withheld.

“The results were pended and we are sorting out the matter. Let there be no cause of alarm. The results will be out soon,” said Obiero.

ST. THERESA’S GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL BRIEF HISTORY

Theresa’s Girls Secondary School had a humble beginning, as a primary School in 1935, with two distinct sections, the Girls Boarding section and Boys Day section, with two Headteachers in the church compound. As the population of the twin sections of the school increased, it became necessary to separate the Boys from the Girls. The Boys moved to Kibuye mixed primary school.

In 1986, the Catholic Church together with a group Kisumu Catholic faithful, calling themselves Kisumu Catholic Education Society, came up with the idea of providing Secondary Education for Girls. This bore fruit in 1987 when the School was registered as a single stream Boarding Secondary School. In order to give room, the Girls primary was moved to a new site, renamed St. Mary’s primary school to avoid confusion.

The initial infrastructure the school used were inherited from the two primary schools. the need for building facilities arose. The Archdiocese of Kisumu came in handy and put up a dormitory named St. Joseph and a multi-purpose hall attached to a kitchen . Between 2000 – 2005, the school population increased, other buildings were required, in 2000 the first fund raising was done, together with the school’s savings, two Laboratories and four classrooms were constructed named Austin Orowe Wing.

In order to address congestion in the dormitory. The Board sought assistance from the Franciscan Brothers in Germany, the donation was used to put up storey dormitory named St. Francis in 2004.

Kisumu Town West constituency has not been left behind in the school development plan. In order to address classrooms needs of the School, the constituency development fund committee accepted to construct a two storey building made up of 12 classrooms. So far the ground floor is complete with four classrooms currently in use. To date Kenya shillings four million three hundred thousand (Kshs. 5,300,000/=) has been disbursed from the constituency fund towards this project.

The year 2008/2009, the school bought a 51 seater bus and sunk a borehole. The borehole has eliminate the perennial water scarcity. The school continues to do well in curricula and co curricula activities as seen in the ever improving results and performance in games and drama/music.

TSC Commissioners: Somalia born Kenyan national sworn in as a TSC Commissioner.

After weeks of shoving and pulling, the two recently appointed Teachers Service Commissioners have been sworn in. The two commissioners, Mbage Njuguna and Leila Abdi, were sworn in by the Chief Justice David Maraga on Monday.

It is the appointment of one of the Commissioners, Leila Abdi, that has elicited a heated debate over the last few weeks. During her vetting by Parliament the Law makers were surprised to learn that the said Commissioner did not have her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination certificates.

It is also in the Public domain that she was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, but was raised in Kajiado County.

This prompted a voter in Mandera to opposs the nomination of Leila Abdi Ali as a member of the Teachers Service Commission.

While appearing before the Parliamentary vetting committee, Leila said her grandfather, Ali Kabati, was a freedom fighter and was Thika mayor for 40 years. She further said that she was raised in Loitoktok area and went to Loitoktok DEB Primary School. According to Leila she lost her parents at seven years and had challenges accessing education.

The two commissioners come in to replace the three whose terms expired. First to exit was Commission Vice Chair Cleopas Tirop whose term expired in May this year. Mr Tirop who was appointed in April 2013 exited after serving his six year-non-renewable term. Two other commissioners – Dr Salome Gichura and Saada Abdi Kontoma – left the Commission, this month; August, 2019.

Teacher Service Commission(TSC) should comprise of nine commissioners.

A plea by teachers’ unions to be apportioned a slot in the commission fell on deaf ears.

The commissioners are in charge of appointing and appraising school heads or confirming those working in acting capacity, promoting teachers, hearing and determining disciplinary cases. They also approve budgets and formulate policies.

Current TSC chairperson Dr. Lydia Nzomo. She chairs the TSC Commission.

Under Article 237(2) of the Constitution, the Commission is mandated to perform the following functions:

  •  Register trained teachers,
  • Recruit and employ registered teachers,
  • Assign teachers employed by the Commission for service in any public school or institution,
  • Promote and transfer teachers,
  • Exercise disciplinary control over teachers,
  • Terminate the employment of teachers,
  • Review the standards of education and training of persons entering the teaching service,
  • Review the demand for and supply of teachers and
