How to easily pay electricity bills

Paying your Electricity Bill

We have a wide number of convenient ways to pay your electricity bills. All payments are posted in your  electricity account on the same day.

We strongly encourage our customers to use the paybill numbers 888888 and 888880 for postpaid and prepaid bill payments respectively. Please follow the instructions below to top up your electricty.

Paying your Postpaid Electricity Bill with M-Pesa (Safaricom)

1. Select “Pay Bill” from the M-Pesa menu.
2. Enter the Kenya Power business number 888 888.
3. Enter your new Kenya Power account number e.g. 123456.
4. Enter the amount you wish to pay which should be between Shs. 100 and  Shs.35,000.
5. Enter your M-Pesa PIN.

6. Confirm that all details are correct.

7. You will receive a confirmation of the transaction via SMS.

How to Buy Kenya Power (KPLC) Prepaid Tokens via M-PESA Paybill Number 888880.

  1. Go to Safaricom SIM Tool Kit, select M-PESA menu, select “Lipa na M-PESA
  2. Select “Pay Bill
  3. Select “Enter Business no.“, Enter KPLC’s Lipa na M-PESA PayBill Number 888880 and press “OK”
  4. Select “Enter Account no.“, Enter your KPLC Prepaid Meter Number (e.g. 0100 xxxx xxxx x) press “OK”
  5. Enter Amount“, between KSh100 and 35,000 and press “OK”
  6. Enter your M-PESA PIN and press “OK”
  7. Confirm all the details are correct and press “OK”
  8. M-PESA HAKIKISHA, You will get a notification with the intended recipient’s name e.g. “Pay Kenya Power KSh1,000.00 for Account 0100 xxxx xxxx x Press 1 within 20 seconds to STOP this transaction.” To stop a wrong transaction, Enter “1” and press Send within 20 seconds. Pressing “Cancel” will complete the transaction.
  9. You will receive a confirmation SMS from M-PESA.
  10. KPLC will then generate prepaid token valid for your meter and send via SMS.

How to Buy Kenya Power (KPLC) Prepaid Tokens via Equitel

1. Select Eazzy Pay from your Equitel menu
2. Select Pay Bill from Eazzy Pay.
Choose the bank account number to pay from e.g.0123456789102
Select business number – KPLC Tokens
3. Enter your KPLC Prepaid Meter Number (e.g. 37168917674) press OK
4. Enter the amount you wish to pay which should be between Shs. 100 and  Shs.500,000.
5. Enter your Equitel PIN and press OK
6. Confirm that all details are correct by pressing 1 OK
7. You will receive a  text confirmation of the transaction from Equity bank.
KPLC will then generate prepaid token valid for your meter and send via SMS.1

NB: All payments are posted in your  electricity account on the same day.

 
Paying your Electricity Bill with Equitel (Sim Tool Kit)

1. Select Eazzy Pay from your Equitel menu
2. Select Pay Bill from Eazzy Pay.
Choose the bank account number to pay from e.g.0123456789102
Select business number – KPLC Bills (Post Paid)
3. Enter your new Kenya Power meter number e.g. 2831172 or 3436980.
4. Enter the amount you wish to pay which should be between Shs.100 and  Shs.500,000.
5. Enter your Equitel PIN and press OK
6. Confirm that all details are correct by pressing 1 OK.
7. You will receive a  text confirmation of the transaction from Equity bank.

NB: All payments are posted in your  electricity account on the same day.

Over The counter Payments
All our esteemed clients and potential clients can  pay their electricity bill by cash through all Equity Bank branches across the country and all payments willl reflect in your electricity account on the same day.

Cash Payment

As a rule, all cash payments should be made at Kenya Power’s authorised pay points which are located within official premises and the paying counters clearly marked CASHIER.

ATM Payments

If you have an account with Co-operative Bank, Postbank or Standard Chartered Bank, you may also pay your bill through any of these banks’ Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs).

Bank Payments
You may also pay your electricity bill by cash through appointed Co-operative Bank branches in Nairobi. Additionally, you can pay your electricity bill at any branch of the following banks countrywide.

Cheque Payments
Cheques may be deposited in designated boxes in pay centres and at specific business premises appointed by Kenya Power to serve as drop-off points.

Bill Payment Through M-Banking

If you are a Co-operative Bank customer, your mobile phone is now an electricity bill payment point. To use the service, one must be registered with the bank for M-Banking service and also one must have registered their Kenya Power account number with the bank.

The Huduma Life App is a comprehensive application by the Government of Kenya that provides a bouquet of Government and Private Sector services to all citizens.

C). iTAX

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has introduced the iTax Mobile App; a software application designed to run on the Android platform to enable ease of access to tax services leveraging on the fast growing mobile industry in Kenya.

The mobile app in its first phase will enable you facilitate any of the following tax transactions:
• Filing of NIL returns for all tax obligations: VAT, Pay as You Earn (PAYE), Income Tax Company (IT2C), Income Tax Partnership (IT2P), Income Tax Individual (IT1), Monthly Rental Income (MRI) return, Turnover Tax and Excise return.
• Payment registration for Monthly Rental Income (MRI) return. The generated payment registration number (PRN) may be used to facilitate tax payments in any of the agent commercial banks in Kenya or via mobile service providers (M-Pesa, Airtel).

D). NHIF Mobile

Make your National Hospital Insurance Fund, NHIF, contributions easily and conveniently from your Android device.

You can now make NHIF contributions easily and conveniently using the NHIF Mobile App and Jambopay Wallet.

It is very simple:

1). Register for a Jambopay Wallet (if you have one proceed to Login with your Phone Number and PIN).
2). Top Up your wallet via MPESA PayBill Number 823263 and your phone number as Business Number.
3). Add your NHIF Membership Account to the app.

TICKETING

Passengers can book tickets thirty (30) days in advance and a return ticket as long as it is within the thirty (30) days window period
Group bookings (over 20 pax) must be made thirty two (32) days days to the date of travel.
The USSD payment solution is available 24/7.
One can book upto a maximum of ten (10) persons per transaction with the USSD payment solution.

Kenya Railways has provided bus/connect services to and from the Mombasa and Nairobi Termini. In Nairobi, catch the commuter train from the CBD railway station at 6:10 am; and in Mombasa catch the connect bus from the old railway station along Mijikenda Road at 6:00 am. The same services are available upon arrival to both destinations
In Mombasa, boarding is at the Mombasa Terminus in Miritini; customers are picked up at the old Mombasa Railways station and transported to the Terminus by buses. The same buses will transport customers on arrival from the Mombasa Terminus to Mombasa CBD.
The cost is Ksh. 100
In Nairobi, connect services are offered by the Commuter Train and City shuttle buses at the CBD railway station. The Commuter train will pick up customers at 06:10am and transport them to the Nairobi Terminus in Syokimau area at Ksh. 50

G). Madaraka Express

Manage your travelling and booking using Madaraka Express.

Madaraka Express is the Standard Gauge Railway services officially opened by Kenya’s 4th President on 31st May 2017. The train operates between the capital city Nairobi and Mombasa on a daily basis. The train services are divided into Express and Inter county trains.

APP FEATURES
1). Book seats and check ticket status. This app facilitates Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the official Kenya Railway’s *639# USSD platform. Booking via Web is also facilitated courtesy of metickets.krc.co.ke.

Kenya Power- Areas on scheduled power outage on Monday, 10/12/2018

The Kenya Power Company will shutdown electricity supply to the following areas, tomorrow, in order to carry out maintenance on its power supply systems. These are the areas shall on Kenya Power’s scheduled electricity shut down tomorrow 10th December, 2018.

How to Purchase KPLC Pre-Paid Tokens

The simplified procedure below can be used to purchase Pre-paid Kenya Power and Lighting Company tokens in Kenya by using M-Pesa:

  1. Access your M-pesa Menu from your mobile phone and open it.
  2. Select LIPA NA M-PESA from the menu, followed by PAY BILL.
  3. Enter the KPLC PRE-PAID BUSINESS NUMBER; 888880 and press on OK
  4. In the next window, Enter your KPLC ACCOUNT NUMBER Carefully and press on OK
  5. Now, enter the amount you wish to pay and press on OK
  6. Enter your M-PESA pin and select, OK.
  7. Press on OK to complete the payment. You will receive a confirmation message from SAFARICOM and a tokens message from KENYA POWE
  8. To load the tokens into your KPLC meter:
    • Locate the tokens message in your phone’s message inbox.
    • Connect your CUSTOMER INTERFACE UNIT to the mains power supply/ Socket and power it on.
    • Type in the tokens code (20 digits) into the device and press the BLUE (Enter) button.

Kenya Power gives a clarification on reports of massive power outages today

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has moved to give a clarification after reports in a section of the media indicated that the company was planning a major power interruption schedule countrywide today, Sunday 24th February- 2019.

Through a presser, the company says any power interruptions today should be viewed as routine daily schedule for maintenance purposes. “We wish to allay customer concerns arising from erroneous and misleading information circulating online/ via social media alleging that we have announced countywide power outages,” says Kenya Power in relation to stories published in the media last night. “The information is misinterpreted from regular alert on routine scheduled preventive maintenance carried out by the company issued to customers, prior, for planning purposes,” adds Kenya Power via a presser.

The Utility power company now assures the general public that there shall be normal service delivery; albeit with interruptions in selected areas. “As such, normal service continue as we endeavour to keep lights on for our customers,” assures Kenya Power.

Kenya Power’s ‘Wezesha Jamii’ programme hailed for uplifting schools’ structures in Kenya; See the details

In June this year (2018), the Kenya Power Company officially launched the ‘Wezesha Jamii ‘ programmes at City Primary School where the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, CEO,  Dr. Ken Tarus handed over a cheque of KShs.1.7 million to the institution. The money was meant to finance construction of a play field for children with special needs at a cost of KShs.1.5 million and equipping a vocational training car wash for the Autism Unit hosted by the school at a cost of KShs.200,000. The programmes dubbed ‘Wezesha Jamii’ are part of the Company’s CSI initiatives and will support provision of education, water, health and sanitation facilities.

“Kenya Power endeavours to improve the livelihoods of the people from the community in which it operates. Traditionally, the Company has set aside 1 per cent of its net profit every financial year to support its CSI initiatives,” said Dr. Tarus, on June 26th 2018, during the official launch of the programme in Nairobi.

This year, the Company has aided schools in the construction of classrooms, kitchen and sanitation facilities as well as provision of learning materials in realization of the important role played by education in the development of a country.

One of the projects that the programme has supported is the refurbishment of Obambo Primary School’s kitchen with a sponsorship cheque of K.Shs 600,000.

Another project funded by Kenya power’s ‘Wezesha Jamii’ programme was the refurbishment of St Joseph Ugana Secondary School’s sanitary facilities. See images below:

Last year (2017), the Company adopted a new CSI policy which allocates 60 per cent of the CSI budget towards projects that support education programmes across the country.

In the past, Kenya Power has supported several schools that cater for children with special needs including Dr. Ribeiro Parklands Primary School Cerebral Palsy Unit, the school of the Mentally Disabled in Embu, Pwani School for the mentally handicapped in Coast, among other institutions.

Last year, the Company also supported construction of classrooms and administration blocks in other schools such as St Mary’s Tachasis Early Childhood Development School, Olessos Primary School in Eldoret and Katulu Primary School in Machakos.

In addition, the Company has an endowment fund at Starehe Boys and Girls that funds learning for needy students at both institutions.

Kenya Power will spend KShs.13 million to fund Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programmes championed by employees across the country.

To enhance provision of clean water to communities outside the reach of piped water, the Company has set aside KShs.8 million to electrify boreholes in various parts across the country. The Corporate sponsorship programme by the Kenya Power company has been hailed by many for uplifting the livelihoods of many and refurbishment of schools’ structures.
