Kenya’s National soccer team, Harambee Stars, take on Ethiopia in an AFCON group F qualifier, this afternoon, at 4.00pm. In their first leg, the two teams played out to a barren draw, in Ethiopia. Kenya sits at the summit of group F and won’t afford to flop at home, today.
And, with less than 5 hours to kick off, Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, is almost full. Patriotic fans started walking in as early as 8.00am this morning. Today’s match is a must win for the Kenyans in order to return to the Continental show piece, African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) finals, next year after 15 years in the cold. The Kenyans sensationally silenced the highly rated Black stars of Ghana, 1-0, in their last game at kasarani few weeks ago.
Large security detail will keep vigil to ensure no major ugly incidences.
Various luminaries have been sending messages of success to the local boys, we sample some here:

Senator Moses Wetangula: “I salute our Harambee stars and wish them sweet victory in the Afcon match against The Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia.”

With less than four weeks to the start of this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations, KCSE, and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education Examinations, KCPE, Plans are at an advanced stage to secure credibility of the national examinations. Speaking at Lang’ata’s examination Container, in Nairobi, during an inspection tour, the duo sounded a stern warning to students, parents and other stake holders on any attempts to compromise the credibility of the examinations. The two indicated that there are reports of fake examinations papers being circulated over the internet by con men who are out to extort money from unsuspecting parents and students.
“Our candidates, instead of revising for the syllabus to have a reasonable chance of passing, they are focusing on these fake papers. They shall focus on these papers at their own peril,” the tough speaking Prof. George Magoha said today. Prof. George A.O Magoha, a Professor of Transplant Surgery and an Honorary Consultant Surgeon and Urologist at Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital, is the Chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council, with effect from March 09, 2016.

Kenya’s Women volleyball team, the Malkia strikers, were unable to repeat yesterday’s heroics as they lost by straight sets to Serbia in their second pool D match at the FIVB Women’s World Championship on Sunday night. The Malkia strikers went down 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-8) in a match played at Hamamatsu, Japan.
A magnificent performance by Mercy Moim, yesterday, led Kenya to a historic straight sets victory (25-23, 25-22, 25-21) over Kazakhstan in Pool D at the FIVB Women’s World Championship. This was Kenya’s first ever victory at the world stage. Read more details here..https://newsblaze.co.ke/kenyas-malkia-strikers-in-historic-win-over-kazakhstan/
In today’s match Jovana Stevanovic was a thorn in the flesh to the Kenyans as she steared Serbia to the victory with nine points. Brankica Mihajlovic had eight points and Stefana Veljkovic seven for Serbia.
The ever green Mercy Moim led Kenya with seven points in the loss. Kenya played hard, but was unable to muster the same level they displayed in Saturday’s historic victory over Kazakhstan, their first ever at a World Championship. The match did not have many long rallies, with many points over in a flash. Kenya was unable to contend with Serbia’s block.
The first set featured poor serving by both teams. Time and again serves flew long or straight into the net. Serbia took charge and pulled ahead 16-10 at the second Team Time Out on a spike by Milena Rasic and rolled to grab the set 25-16. The higher-ranked Serbs finally got into a rhythm and came together.
Serbia again set the pace in the second set, moving out to an 8-4 lead at the first Team Time Out following a service ace by Tijana Malesevic. Serbia’s wing spikers blasted away at the Kenya defense, which was unable to repel the constant attacks. Serbia boosted their advantage to 16-6 at the second Team Time Out while running off six consecutive points. Kenya was also troubled by unforced errors as Serbia built their lead and ultimately took the set 25-9.
The outcome became academic early in the final set when Serbia rapidly established a 9-1 lead. One point in the set crystallized the match. Serbia’s Veljkovic went up for a spike with her right hand but mistimed her jump. On the way down she hit the ball with her left hand and it landed in a open space in the Kenya defense for a point. Serbia cruised the rest of the way to take the set and the match 25-8.

Kenya’s Malkia Stikers are participating at this year’s championship, alongside compatriots, Cameroon.
The five Senators will each pocket a whooping Kshs. 1.2 Million for the two weeks. This is in accordance with the Parliamentary’s Service Commission rates where members are paid Kshs. 100,000 while on international trips. Their air tickets costs will also be footed by the ex chequer.
Surprisingly, the Kenyan players who are participating in championship were each paid Sh80,000 for the three weeks they will be in Tokyo. This means each player will get a per diem of just Ksh. 3,800.
The latest development comes after the Speaker to the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, turned down a request by 10 Legislators to also fly to Tokyo, Japan, to witness the games.
