2022 IEBC MASS VOTER REGISTRATION

As the mass voter registration exercise enters the fourth day, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials have partnered with other stakeholders to mobilize eligible residents to enlist with the commission as voters.

Makueni County Elections Manager Aisha Mohammed said they were working with the community leaders, chiefs and politicians as targets to capture the 97,476 new voters during the second phase of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise.

She said enough registration kits were distributed to all the 30 wards in six constituencies adding that both Wote Technical Institute and Huduma Center in Wote town were offered at least one kit to hasten the exercise.

And in Baringo, the incoming County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa has urged National government heads of departments to utilize all available avenues to help Independent Election and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) mobilise all eligible youth to enroll as voters during this final mass voter registration drive.

Addressing the county directors shortly after taking over from outgoing County Commissioner Henry Wafula, the new county chief urged residents to exploit the 21 days window provided to register voters.

However, in Migori County the IEBC was still experiencing low voter’s registration due to low turnout occasioned by unfavorable weather condition.

Speaking at his office, the Suna East Constituency Election Coordinator Mr. Kennedy Okoth said that the heavy rains that have been experienced in the past two days has greatly affected the voter registration process.

Migori County had a set target of 89,217 but only managed to register 36, 452 people in the first phase that ended in November 2021.

Okoth noted that the county had a target of 118,000 which he said they intended to achieve.

Elected leaders from Bomet County have taken to the social media with calls on the residents of Bomet County to register as voters.

Separately in Bomet County, the Governor Prof Hillary Barchok has taken a lead role through his Facebook page to mobilise residents to register.

Prof. Barchok has also made posters and banners with informative messages seeking to woo youths who have just come of age to take advantage of the second window and enroll as voters.

And in a related development, IEBC Deputy Returning Officer Igembe South Sub County Consolata Muthoni said at least 15, 894 were targeted during the exercise urging churches and media to propagate the message.

Muthoni appealed to the members of the public to spread the same gospel amongst themselves for it is their constitutional and democratic mandate for them to register as voters for it is the only way they can be eligible for voting comes 9th August General Elections.

What is this Platform? 🔎

My candidate is an open source platform that facilitates ease of access to information on who exactly is running for public office in Kenya’s 2022 General Election.

Relying on an exhaustive list provided by the IEBC, citizens are able to find out who is running for office in their constituency by keying in their location of interest. A complete list of public office aspirants for that location, including President, Deputy President, Member of Parliament, Senator, County Governor, Member of County Assembly and Women Rep, is generated for your consumption.

You can then tap on a particular candidate to gain access to publicly available information on them via a Google Search.

How to use My candidate 🛠

Once on the home page, simply type up a location of your interest into the search bar, and the results corresponding to that location will be generated.

InShot_20220720_144648908.mp4

One can also select a candidate to have access to all publicly available information about them via an automated Google search.

Areas with the same name? Try using a different landmark 🛠

There are instances where two or more locations on the map have the same name. This may cause one to get divergent results from that of their actual location. One such example is Mugumoini, which is both a part of Langata constituency in Nairobi and also Muranga constituency. If you happen to be in such a location, include a specific landmark in your search in order to get more accurate results.
