KNBS states date when the 2019 Census ICT Supervisors, Enumerators and Content Supervisors will receive their pay

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, knbs, has given an explanation as to why the payment for the 2019 Census ICT Supervisors, Enumerators and Content Supervisors has delayed. The agency has at the same time given the timelines when the Census officials will be paid their balances.

according to Dr. Zachary Mwangi, knbs Director General, the process  of paying the official who participated in the 2019 National Population and Housing Census kicked off on Friday September, 2019.

“The first batch of payment for some sub-counties has been rolled out today, 20th September 2019 and the process will be completed in the next two weeks,” said Dr. Mwangi via a presser.
“We wish to reiterate and assure that the money for payment of all enumerators is available, was budgeted for, and all payments will be done. We, therefore, urge for patience as we conclude this exercise, ” he added.

He explained that the verification of the devices used during the Census exercise is what has occasioned the delay in payments.
“All the census equipment’s used by enumerators during the census enumeration process had to go through a verification process, before clearance for payment, ” added Dr Mwangi.

The agency recruited a total of 164,000 personnel on short term basis. Of this number, 135,000 were enumerators, 27,000 content supervisors and 2700 Information Technology, IT, persons. Also hired were village elders, security personnel and coordinators who assisted in making the exercise flawless.

Payments.

The ICT Supervisors were contracted for a period of 30 days and would earn a Gross Remuneration of Ksh.3, 000 per day; Totaling to Kshs.90, 000 before Tax. The Table below summarizes the amounts expected by the Census officials;

An advance payment of 5 days (Ksh. 15,000 for ICT Supervisors and Ksh 12,500 for Content Supervisors) was made during the Census exercise in August.
During the training Enumerators, ICT and Content Supervisors werer provided with daily transport allowance of Ksh.150 for 8 days.

The agency’s Sh18.5 Billion had the chunk of the funds going to remuneration of the Census officials; with Sh3.5 billion spent to buy 164,000 smart phones and relevant census hardware.

The Census preliminary results will be available by December this year; with full results expected by Mid next year. This is according to acting Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.
