TVET will evaluate the curriculum for its Institutions
TVET will evaluate the curriculum for its Institutions
The Curriculum for Technical and Vocational Education Training Institutions will be updated as these institutions will now train and certify students in certain skills for three months.
According to PS Dr. Esther Muoria of Technical and Vocational Education Training, the proposed curricula will be divided into microcomponents and thoroughly reviewed at a forthcoming consultative gathering with TVET Principals.
“I’ve asked TVET Principals to Nyeri National Polytechnic, and we’re going to sit down together and come to an agreement on the next steps,” she stated.
The PS observed that after three months, the students may enter the workforce with a certificate and that they can still pursue an additional certificate for another six months.
The PS was giving a speech at Homa Bay County’s Mawego National Polytechnic’s first graduation ceremony.
Muoria stated that the government is collaborating with the industrial sector to absorb the students, some of whom are already enrolled in the institutions, to prove that it is feasible to produce well-trained youth in a very short period of time.
The PS stated that, per the Presidential Directive, it is not feasible to require young people to practice tailoring for a whole year.
The PS, however, stated that reforms are still underway in the TVET sector to guarantee that technical training is equitable, accessible, and relevant.
More than 80 percent of constituencies have functioning TVETs, she added, stating that the government is dedicated to its mission of making sure every constituency has a TVET facility to allow young people access skills training.
“The PS stated that plans are in place to guarantee that every constituency has a properly equipped TVET institution,” adding that no one with skills will go hungry.
Muoria stated that the government has been eager to guarantee that the skills taught in the TVET sub-sector align with current global market demands. He urged TVET Principals to make every effort to equip the youth with the skills the nation needs for development.
A total of 1,980 students received different certificates during the graduation.
The PS congratulated the graduands on their milestone, which she said was achieved through “hard work, dedication, and teamwork,” and stated, “Today marks not just the completion of your training but the beginning of your journey as a skilled professional, ready to shape the future of Kenya and the world at large.”
