Apply for the 2020 Mandela Washington fellowship; here is all you need to know.

The U.S. Department of State is accepting applications for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders from September 12 to October 9, 2019.

Begun in 2014, the Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) that empowers young people through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking. In summer 2020, the Fellowship will host up to 700 young African leaders. Apply now!

Fellows will travel to U.S. university or college campuses for six-week Leadership Institutes in one of three tracks: Business, Civic Engagement, or Public Management.  For more details on the sector tracks, please review the application instructions

The intensive six-week Institute model uses leadership development as the framework to create links between academic sessions, a strengths-based Common Leadership Curriculum, site visits, community service, and cultural activities.  Fellows in all three themes will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and the Institutes will take place from mid-June to late July 2020.  The Institutes will culminate in a Summit in Washington, D.C., featuring networking and panel discussions with U.S. leaders from the public, private, and non-profit sectors.

Additionally, up to 70 competitively-selected Fellows will remain in the United States to participate in individually tailored four-week Professional Development Experiences (PDE) at an NGO, business, or government agency throughout the United States. The PDE offers Fellows practical training and the opportunity to learn transferable skills, expand their professional networks, and apply concepts learned at the Institutes to real-world situations in the U.S. context.

Upon returning to their home countries, Fellows will continue to build their leadership skills through support from U.S. embassies, USAID, and affiliated partners through networking opportunities, ongoing professional development, and mentoring.

For information on the application and selection process, eligibility, application and selection timeline, and more, please visit our application page.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by IREX.

Be a part of the next generation of African leaders!

The Mandela Washington Fellowship will bring up to 700 young leaders to the United States in the summer of 2020 for a comprehensive executive-style program that is designed to build skills and empower Fellows to lead in their respective sectors and communities.

This is an unparalleled opportunity to…

  • Participate in a six-week Leadership Institute at a U.S. college or
university to share your experiences with and to learn from
    Americans and other Fellows.
  • Explore industries beyond your daily work and expand your expertise.
  • Attend a Summit with young African leaders in Washington, D.C.
  • Meet with U.S. Government, civic, and business leaders.
  • Strengthen your work through new connections, skills, and ideas.
  • Join a continental and global Alumni network to help you seek innovative solutions to common challenges.

Application Timeline

  • September 12, 2019 | Application opens
  • October 9, 2019 | Application deadline
  • December 2019 – February 2020 | Semifinalists interviewed by local U.S. embassies and consulates
  • Late March 2020 | Applicants are notified of their status
  • May 2020 | Visa processing and Pre-Departure Orientations for Finalists
  • Mid-June 2020 | Fellowship begins in the United States

Application and Selection Process

Selection Process and Criteria

Egoji TTC 2020/2021 intake, courses, requirements, contacts, fees, admission letters: Diploma in Education Latest News

Get all details about St. Lawrence Egoji Teachers College; Diploma Teachers Training College Courses, Fees Structure, Admission Requirements, Application Form and Contacts. Check all the details in this post.

EGOJI TTC LOCATION

Egoji TTC is located in Igoji East division near Igoji market in Meru county.

EGOJI TTC BRIEF HISTORY

St. Lawrence Egoji Teachers’ College was established in 1959 by the Catholic Diocese of Meru. It was founded by the Consolata fathers led by the first Bishop of Meru RT. Rev. Victor Bessone and Rev. Fr. La-Greca who was the first principal and chaplain.

To-date the college has successfully trained 24,067 teachers who are serving not only in Kenya but also in Africa and other parts of the world. I can confidently state that Egoji Teachers’ Training College has made tremendous impact in both academic and co-curricular activities.

St. Lawrence Egoji Teachers’ College, by its history and position finds itself with the inherent role of providing training in the domain of Teacher Education in Kenya. As a country, we have experienced the impact of globalization and ICT revolution among other emerging trends that has necessitated the government to reform the education and training sector to respond to these emerging challenges.

The college must therefore respond by identifying the opportunities and avenues of creating new partnerships and collaborations, resulting in remarkable improvements in teacher education nationwide and strengthening the quality of life.

The tertiary education sub-sector in Kenya has experienced moderate growth over the last 40 years. However, it faces challenges in producing adequate and skilled middle level human resource required to meet the demands for national development.

The college is therefore compelled to chart a new strategic direction guided by a shared vision, strategic thinking and agility, – while at the same time being increasingly aware of the importance of its position in a national context. It is against this backdrop that has necessitated the development of the 2017-2022 strategic plan upon which the management of the college affairs will be based.

The College formulated its first five-year Strategic plan (2009 to 2014) which guided its operations from 2009 to 2013. The strategic plan was reviewed in 2013, and culminated in the second Strategic Plan (2013-2017). The review arose from the need to integrate and incorporate national development priorities in the College agenda as articulated in the Kenya Vision 2030, the new constitution of Kenya 2010 and other government policies.

Through this strategic plan, the college intends to marshal its acknowledged strengths around identified opportunities in order to address its weaknesses and minimize threats associated with its development, transformation and contribution to the national agenda and the society in general.

The College developed a quality management system and was accredited with ISO 9001:2008 certification in 2013 by the Kenya Bureau of Standards, and prides itself in being the first Teacher training college in Kenya to acquire this prestigious certification. The motto of the College is ‘Lucere Ardere’ translated as: ‘burn to enlighten’.
