Kenya Secondary Schools Sports (KSSSA) Chair and Dagoreti Principal Peter Orero to vie for Kibra MP seat

Current Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association(KSSSA) Chairman Peter Orero is eyeing the Kibra Constituency Parliamentary seat. Orero who is also the Principal to Dagoreti high school, in Nairobi, will face off with 26 other contestants who are interested in the seat through the Orange Democratic Movement, ODM, ticket.

ODM leader Raila Odinga led a rally at Kibra on Sunday August 26, 2019 where he also paraded the contestants. He announced that the at least 26 aspirants will battle it out for the ODM ticket during primaries slated for Saturday August 31, 2019.

Orero will face off with Imram Okoth (Younger brother to the late Ken Okoth), DJ Kriss Darlin and Benson Musingu (ODM National Youth Coordinator).

The Kibra seat fell vacant following the demise of Ken Okoth who succumbed to colorectal cancer related complications in July this year.

Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission, IEBC, chairman Wafula Chebukati has announced that the by-election for the Kibra Parliamentary seat will be conducted on November 7, 2019.

“The campaign period for the by election shall start on September 9 and cease on November 4, being 48 hours before the by election, and shall run between 7am and 6pm” Mr Chebukati added.

Agoro Sare Soccer Team at the Ksssa National Term 2 Games 2023: Team News, Fixtures and Results

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has congratulated the Agoro Sare boys’ football team for winning the Nyanza region’s secondary schools trophy, saying that the county government and Nyanza people were proud of the team.

The Governor spoke when she hosted the Agoro Sare football team alongside the Miranga Girls handball team, which also emerged victorious, and expressed confidence that the school will win the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSA) football national title.

According to Wanga, Agoro Sare has the capacity to triumph over other teams because the Nyanza region has a history of producing the best soccer players. Homa Bay is the home of renowned football player Michael Olunga and the home of perennial Kenya Premier League winner Gor Mahia.

The Governor said Agoro Sare has put Homa Bay on the national map by winning the regional football trophy.

“The team has put Homa Bay on top regionally. You have our full support, and we’re hopeful you will bring us the national trophy,” Wanga said.

The Governor was in company with her Deputy, Oyugi Magwanga, Homa Bay County Secretary Benard Muok, and Sports County Executive Member Sarah Malit, among others.

The Agoro Sare football team, which won against Kisumu Days Secondary School, will proceed to the national championships, which will be held in Kakamega County.

The Governor donated Ksh. 66,000 to the team to buy soccer boots. “The entire Nyanza takes pride in your victory. Using your slogan, One Team, One Fight, we wish you all the best,” she added.

Homa Bay is also preparing a team that will compete against other counties in the forthcoming Talanta Hela games.

The Governor took the opportunity to announce that her administration will increase the county bursary kitty from Sh2.5 million to Sh4 million per ward. Homa Bay has a total of 40 wards.

“We have also allocated Sh6 million to improve Early Childhood Development centres in each ward,” Wanga said.

Magwanga asked the national team representatives from the county to maintain high discipline to ensure their success. “Commit yourselves to discipline and dedication to enable you to win against opponents,” Magwanga said.

KUPPET rises up to the occasion with goodies for teachers

Leaders of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers, at County level, have devised new ways of rewarding teachers who excel in sports. From KUPPET branded Polo shirts, tracksuits, drinking water, trophies to cash prizes.

In Kisii county, it was all smiles for teachers whose teams excelled after bagging KUPPET branded track suits. Beneficiaries are those whose teams clinched tickets to the Nyanza region term one championship slated for next week at Rapogi high school in Migori. During the Kisii County championship, that ended on Saturday at Cardinal Otunga High School, participants quenched their thirst by gallons of KUPPET branded water.

The leadership led by the branch Secretary Omari Otungu and Chair Laban Bosire promised more sponsorship next time; with referees requesting for consideration.

In the neighboring county, Migori, it was a similar scenario. The Kuppet branch executive Secretary Orwa samwel (Jasolo) led other leaders to award teachers at the County term one championship that came to a climax over this last weekend. The leadership donated KUPPET branded water, Caps and trophies.

Nyamira has not been left behind either. The branch leadership, led by executive Secretary Lewis Nyakweba, has come in-handy during the various co-curricular activities’ meets. Teachers and especially coaches and referees have been kitted with KUPPET branded polo shirts; with more goodies lined up this year.

But, the naysayers would have none of this and sees it as a campaigning strategy. “Where have they been? Only waking up in the last minute because of the forth coming elections!” Quipped a teacher who sought for anonymity. KUPPET elections are to be held next year from branch to national level.

Whether a campaigning strategy or not, the bottom line is that indeed KUPPET is doing a great job at Branch level.
