Africa Copa Coca Cola Soccer Championship, 2018- Collated results and rankings

Kenya’s representatives at this year’s Africa Copa Coca Cola under sixteen years soccer  Championship were in superb form; winning both the girls’ and boys’ trophies. The Kenyan   Boys’ from St. Anthony’s Kitale were in superb form; outwitting Nigeria 3-2 on post match penalties. The match had ended at 0-0 on regulation time, forcing the post match penalties to be taken so as to decide the winner. Earlier, Kenya ( Moi High School Nangili girls) recorded a double win over Zimbabwe by defeating them 1-0 at the finals to lift the trophy.

Education Ministry in a move to take full charge of Co-Curricular, Games, activities in 2019

The Ministry of Education has moved to take full control of all schools’ sporting activities, next year. In a latest circular by the Ministry’s Principal Secretary, Dr. Belio R. Kipsang, budgeting and coordination of all schools’ games activities shall be controlled by  Ad hock committees to be constituted at Sub county, County and Regional Levels.

Currently, Coordination of Co-curricular activities is done by, mostly, the elected sports committees at each level spearheaded by the Chairperson (Who must be a principal) and a Secretary (Who is an elected teacher and acts as the championship’s chief Coordinator). The committees have other members, thus: the Vice Chairperson (a Principal), the treasurer (a Principal), the Vice treasurer (a Principal), the Vice Secretary ( A teacher), among other members as directed by the Ministry of education.

In the Circular, the Ministry now directs formation of new committees to run the games activities; effective 2019. The current sports secretaries have been left out as their responsibilities have now been passed to an Education officer or a Quality Assurance officer who shall be appointed by either the Sub County Director of Education (SCDE), County Director of education (CDE) and the Regional Coordinator of Education (RCE) for Sub- County, County and Regional Committees respectively.

“For purposes of accountability and transparency in the management of Co-curricular activities, there shall be established the following management committees at the Sub- County, County and Regional Levels: Co-curricular Activities Sub- County Committee, Co-curricular Activities County Committee and Co-curricular Activities Regional Committee,” says Dr. Kipsang in the circular.

According to the Ministry, the committees will have:

  • One member from Kenya Primary schools Heads Association (KEPSHA),
  • One member from the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA),
  • The Education Director at each level; who shall be the chair to the Committee,
  • The Quality Assurance and Standards Officer,
  • Chairmen of the various (Current) Co-curricular activities (Committees),
  • The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, Director or his/ her representative at each level,
  • One member from the Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA),
  • One representative from Special Needs Education (SNE) and
  • The Secretary to the committee; who shall be an Education officer or the Quality Assurance Officer.

This new directive will affect all the Co- curricular activities that are funded by the Ministry of Education; Primary schools games and sports, Secondary Schools games and sports, Special needs Education secondary schools games and sports, Special needs Education primary schools games and sports, Music festival, Drama Festival and the Science & Engineering Fair.

NEW COMMITTEES TO TAKE FULL CONTROL OF BUDGET MAKING

According to Dr. Kipsang, the committees will be tasked with the budgeting for funds released by the Ministry of Education, Programming (Preparing Championship programmes), Coordination of activities among other responsibilities.

In budgeting, the committees shall plan for:

  • Travel, accommodation and subsistence of all students, participants, at all levels,
  • Acquisition of trophies, certificates and other awards at the respective level,
  • Maintenance of security and health issues during the activities at the particular level,
  • Identification of the hosting venues,
  • Transportation of teams to the next level and
  • Facilitation of their officials ( who include: team managers, chaperons, drivers, executive committee members) while accompanying their teams to the next level. The list of officials to be facilitated does not include coaches, though.

The Ministry of Education has announced elections for all Co-curricular activities Committees. Via a circular by Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang, the elections will be conducted in February this year, 2023.

“As you are aware the existing co-curricular activities committee have been in place for five (5) years are therefore due to expire in February, 2023.” Reads the circular in part.

The Circular is copied to Chief Executive Officer Teachers Service Commission and Chairpersons to the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KSSSA), Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) and Kenya Special Schools Heads Association (KSSHA).

“You are therefore requested to initiate and conduct the elections of officials of the various committees from sub-county to regional level as per the guidelines that was issued via circular MOE.HQS/3/4/15/VOL.II (129) dated 5th November, 2018”, Dr. Kipsang adds.

In 2018, the Ministry moved to take full charge of all Co-curricular activities which were initially run by KESSHA and KPSHA. The Ministry ordered for formation of new committees to run the co-curricular activities.

To run the Co-curricular activities, at each level (from grassroots), the following officials will be elected by using the delegate system:

  1. Chairperson
  2. Secretary
  3. Treasurer
  4. Vice Secretary
  5. Committee members.

To observe the two thirds gender rule, more members can be co-opted.

The elected officials will serve for a term of 5 years. According to MoE guidelines, one can not serve for more than two terms in the same capacity.

The Inaugural Africa Copa Coca Cola Soccer Championship got underway today (10th December, 2018) in Nakuru County, Kenya. The 2019 Term two National Secondary School (KSSSA) games in Kisumu- Latest news, Programme, pools and fixtures

This year’s national term two secondary school games will be held in the Nyanza Region from Sunday 28th July, 2019 to 4th August, 2019. The games will be held at Kisumu Boys which is in Kisumu County.

General Championship Programme:

1). Saturday 27th July, 2019: Reporting and Coordination clinics for referees
2). Sunday 28th July, 2019:
Reporting of teams and officials, Coordination clinics
3). Monday 29th July , 2019: Coordination Clinics for referees, Teams’ warm ups
4). Tuesday 30th July, 2019: Opening Ceremony and Preliminary matches Day one.
