Accredited Hospitals- Western Region

This comprehensive in-patient health cover has been introduced for NHIF contributors and their dependants. The actualization of this package is a culmination of continued reforms at NHIF. Such reforms include efficiency, arising from decentralization of NHIF services and continued partnership with health providers on enhanced quality services to all members. To enhance these benefits, NHIF has contracted hospitals under three Categories; A, B & C, to provide this in-patient medical cover and partial cover for surgical cases in some of these hospitals. Our members are at liberty to attend hospitals under any category.
Under Category A (government hospitals), members would be able to enjoy full and comprehensive cover for maternity and medical diseases including surgery. In short, they will not need to pay for anything on admission provided they are fully paid up members of NHIF. Members admitted under contract Category B (private and mission) hospitals will enjoy full and comprehensive cover but where surgery is required, the contributor may be required to co-pay.
Those visiting facilities contracted under Category C (private) will continue with the current system where NHIF pays specified daily benefits under the current arrangements. NHIF will continue to negotiate with other health providers not appearing in the list below to determine which category of contract they will sign. Members will be informed of additional hospitals as and when they sign the contracts.

About the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme by the Jubilee government/ How to register for Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme

The Inua Jamii Cash Transfer programme cushions the elderly and allows them to lead decent lives in old age.

The Government of Kenya consolidated multiple intervention programmes into “’lnua Jamii’ – a cash transfer programme for the vulnerable in society” to enhance efficiency and effective coordination. The programme covers the elderly, persons with severe disabilities, orphans & vulnerable children across all constituencies.

File photo- President Uhuru in a light moment with an elderly man who is under the inua jamii programme

The Government first embarked on a clean-up of the beneficiary list through biometric registration to remove undeserving beneficiaries and replace them with deserving ones. As a result, the programme expanded to reach 718,383 beneficiaries up from 227,969 in 2013, an addition of 490,414 new beneficiaries. All beneficiaries are now accessing funds through biometric payment system and NHIF cover is also being rolled out to them.

Inua Jamii has seen over Ksh. 48.55 billion transferred to beneficiaries since 2013. This is up from an average of KSh. 5.5B billion annually to approximately Ksh. 17B annually, a 209% increase. This has led to poverty reduction, economic empowerment and uptake of income generating activities, improved living standards and promoted dignity amongst the vulnerable in society.

In Kilifi county, 35,000 people aged 70 years and above will benefit from the Kshs. 850 million Social protection funds, in 2018, that will insulate them against economic shocks and cater for their daily basic needs.

President Magufuli orders the Army to buy all cashew nuts

Tanzanian President, John Pombe Magufuli, has ordered the country’s army to buy all cashew nuts from farmers, immediately. This comes after the cashew nut dealers failed to buy the produce from farmers. The government had, last week, issued a four day ultimatum to the dealers to buy the cashew nuts. But, the farmers refused to sell the produce to the dealers citing low purchasing prices.

Yesterday, Monday 12th November 2018, the no nonsense Tanzanian President, Magufuli, said that the government will purchase all cashew nut stocks directly from farmers at a TShs. 3,300 per Kilogram. The Government will use its military instruments and the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB).

The latest move has left the dealers in anguish since they have already hired labour services, warehouses and even borrowed loans to purchase the cashew nuts.
