KCPE 2023 Results out on Thursday

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, 2023 results will be released this Thursday, 24th November at Mtihani House in Nairobi.

The exams will be released this week to allow for the placement of Form One students before Christmas and give parents ample time to prepare for school fees amid harsh economic times that have seen the cost of living rise.

Checking KCPE 2023 results – Ultimate Knec guide

KNEC CEO, Dr David Njengere, MBS, presided over the closing ceremony for KCPE English Composition and Kiswahili Insha marking exercise at St. Geroge’s Girls Secondary School, Nairobi, on Saturday evening.

Dr Njengere commended the teachers for the great work in steering KCPE exam since its inception to this moment of transition to the CBC curriculum. “You are the real heroes of 8-4-4 system and we appreciate you. We now urge and depend on you to similarly run CBC successfully.”

On 10th November, Education PS Belio Kipsang said that the marking of the KCPE exam had kicked off with the results expected out on 30th November.

Education PS Belio was speaking after visiting Naivasha Girls Secondary School, the PS lauded head teachers for the work they had done during the national exams.

“We expect the results out early so that placement of students in form one can be done before Christmas to allow parents ample time to prepare,” he said

At the same time, Kipsang downplayed the recent cases of KCSE exam malpractices adding that only seven center managers have been suspended. He attributed the low number of exams cheating this year to the move to collect exam papers twice a day and the support from the Ministries of Interior and ICT.

“We noticed that there was exposure of the exam materials when collected once and hence the directive to collect them twice in a day,” he said.

This year, at least 360,000 candidates sat the KCPE examination for the first time in 1985, ushering in the 8-4-4 system. Close to four decades later, the focus turns to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), where learners will be assessed through a new education system, CBC.

2019 Census jobs- Why most Kenyans are opposed to the manual applications through Chiefs and their assistants

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, KNBS, has advertised positions for the 2019 Census exercise. Of the advertised posts, 2,700 are for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Supervisors, 27,000 posts for Content Supervisors while, 135,000 vacancies will be filled by Enumerators. Interested candidates should submit their applications by 24th June, 2019.

Read more details here;
. 2019 Census jobs- knbs advertises the ICT Supervisors, Enumerators and Content Supervisors jobs; Get requirements and application procedure
. KNBS gives guidelines on formation, requirements and functions of various Census committees
. 2019 Census Exercise- Guidelines and Timelines
. The 2019 Census jobs application centres and other guidelines

According to the advert, ICT Supervisors are expected to submit their credentials to the respective County Statistics Offices. On the other hand, Content Supervisors and Enumerators should submit their applications to Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs; respectively. The move by the agency to use Chiefs and their assistants in the recruitment process has angered a section of Kenyans. This group holds that using Chiefs would make the recruitment process flawed and riddled with corruption. In the just concluded Huduma Number registration exercise, Chiefs were used to recruit the Huduma clerks a move that saw the exercise marred with irregularities in recruitment; with some chiefs recruiting only their kinsmen. They now want KNBS to make the application process purely online.

Here are some comments made by angered Kenyans, online;

Marigiri; “Corruption! Corruption! Corruption! Make it online please! Offline will encourage ‘kitu kidogo’ syndrome.”

Bill; “Manual application is just promoting cheifs to perfectly extend corruption. online application is the best idea.”

Mathew Ngeno; “The application should be online to get rid of corruption, nepotism and favorism that we witness during the huduma namba.”

Linus Kim; “Hello, how sure are you the recruitment exercise will be fair by sending applications to chiefs and sub chiefs offices…won’t this thing be of relatives only like what happened in huduma number. Online thing works best.”

Kings Alex; “Too bad the application will again have to pass through chiefs/subchiefs just like that of huduma namba. These are the most corrupt and unscrupulous rascals in Kenya. We had to pay 5K each to get that job. Others only employed their relatives! They’ll reap big this time round.”

It remains to be seen if indeed KNBS will change tune and have the applications done online, as requested by a section of Kenyans.

Kuccps announces the 2021/2022 application for placement of KCSE 2020 candidates; Details

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced the dates for application for 2021/2022 placement of 2020 KCSE candidates to universities and colleges. The School/Centre application will commence on Monday, January 4, 2021 and close on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. This will be followed by the first and second revision phases.

CENTRE/SCHOOL APPLICATION FOR 2021/2022 PLACEMENT OF GOVERNMENT SPONSORED STUDENTS TO UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is a state corporation established to co-ordinate the placement of Government Sponsored Students to Universities and Colleges and to develop career guidance programmes for the benefit of students among other functions.

KUCCPS in consultation with its stakeholders developed the Placement Policy, Procedures and Criteria to ensure equity and access to tertiary education and training. Placement of government-sponsored students is based on choices, merit and affirmative action criteria.

To achieve this, the applicants are given an opportunity to make placement choices at different stages of the placement cycle to increase their chances of securing their most preferred career choices.

At the School/Centre application stage, secondary school principals are required to submit the KCSE candidates’ placement choices and contact information through the school portal to ensure that each candidate’s information is centrally captured for ease of placement and follow-up by KUCCPS officers.

In the past, many KCSE candidates performed well in KCSE but failed to apply for placement to either university and/or college resulting in their being matched to courses that remain after the processing of applications.

In this regard, school principals should ensure that all their KCSE candidates participate in the School/Centre application by submitting their candidates’ choices to KUCCPS through their respective school placement portal.

2021/2022 Kuccps Placement Application Process

The placement cycle is summarized below:

STAGE 1: School/Centre Application- 2021/2022 Placement.

The School/Centre application will commence on Monday, January 4, 2021 and close on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. The principals’ manual to guide the process is available in the respective school portal.

Application Process

Each KCSE candidate shall be given an opportunity to choose their preferred courses as shown below:

1. Degree Course choices: 1(a), 1(b), (c), 2, 3, 4.
2. Diploma Course choices: 1,2,3,4
3. Craft Course choices: 1,2,3,4
4. Artisan Course choices: 1,2,3,4

All candidates should be encouraged to apply, and can give choices from all four levels.

However, they should make choices only for programmes they are interested in pursuing.

It is important to note that currently, KUCCPS places students to Bachelor Degree (currently C+ and above), Diploma (C- and above), Craft Certificate (D plain and above) and Artisan (D- minus and below).

Therefore, all candidates qualify for placement to university or college irrespective of their KCSE examination results grade.

An application fee of Kshs. 500 shall be charged per student.

STAGE 2: First Revision– 2021/2022 Placement.

First revision of Degree and TVET choices will be held on dates to be announced by KUCCPS after the release of the K.C.S.E. Results.

Application Fees

If the student applied for placement during the School/Centre application, they shall pay Kshs.1,000.

If the student is applying for placement for the first time at this stage, they shall pay Kshs.1,500.

STAGE 3: Second and Subsequent Revisions – 2021/2022 Placement.

Candidates who will not merit any of their preferred choices on processing of their preceding placement applications will be given a chance to revise during the subsequent Revision by selecting from courses with unfilled capacities.

Affirmative Action Criteria

The Placement Policy applies affirmative action criteria based on: gender, marginalization and disability.

To facilitate this process for the benefit of the students, principals are reminded to indicate clearly the following information for every candidate accordingly:

  • Citizenship
  • Gender
  • Nature of disability (where applicable)
  • The geographical location of the school/Examination centre

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service takes this early opportunity to wish all 2020 K.C.S.E. Examination Candidates success in the forthcoming examinations and requests all secondary school principals to submit Centre/School placement application choices and contact details for their KCSE candidates.

KUCCPS further urges all schools and candidates to continuously visit the Placement Service website www.kuccps.ac.ke for more information on their services.
For enquiries, write to Kuccps on info@kuccps.ac.ke

See the nine TSC allowances that MPs are proposing in a Bill that will establish additional allowances for teachers.

The Teachers Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which seeks to improve the system and equity of teacher allowances, has been brought before the Kenyan Parliament. To establish a clear and predictable framework for paying teachers’ allowances, the measure, sponsored by Mandera South MP Abdul Haro, aims to change the Teachers Service Commission Act of 2012.

The bill’s Main Provisions

Introduction of Specific Allowances: The measure creates a new “Schedule Four” that lists nine different kinds of allowances that teachers can be given under certain circumstances:

Housing Stipend
Allowance for Commuting
Hardship compensation
Allowance for Leave
Transfer Allowance
Special School Allowance
Reader’s Facilitation Allowance
Allowance for Responsibility
Act Allowance

The responsibility allowance is the only one of these that is pensionable if it is earned up to and including the day of service’s conclusion; the others are not.

Appointments for Structured Acting

In order to establish a formal procedure for hiring teachers in acting positions, the statute establishes Section 32A. It stipulates that if a teacher satisfies all established qualifications, they may be appointed in an acting capacity for a period of at least thirty days and up to six months. A special duty allowance will be given to teachers who play acting roles, and they may only hold one acting position at any given moment.

When setting the allowances due to teachers, the statute mandates that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) confer with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), guaranteeing openness and uniformity in compensation.

Participation by the Public

In accordance with Standing Order 127(3) and Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution, the National Assembly has asked the public and stakeholders to send the Departmental Committee on Education their comments and memoranda on the bill by May 9, 2025.

In the middle of a growing movement by teachers’ unions calling for higher wages and better working conditions, this legislation has been introduced. Under its proposed collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the TSC, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has suggested a 60 percent increase in base salary and higher allowances.

In a similar vein, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (Kuppet) has demanded that the minimum wage be increased by between 50 and 100 percent, along with other benefits such as a risk allowance for science instructors.

If enacted, the Teachers Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is predicted to establish a fairer and more organized system for teacher allowances, addressing longstanding concerns and raising the standard of living for teachers nationwide. This will boost teacher motivation and, consequently, raise standards.
