The Ministry of Education has issued a statement on what transpired at the Precious talent school in where a classroom collapsed on the morning of Monday September 23, 2019. Nairobi.

Here is the presser from the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha;

“On behalf of the Government, and my own behalf, I wish to convey our deepest condolences to the families, friends and relatives of the Precious Talent Primary School for the tragedy that befell the community this morning.

I received this news as I was on an official
engagement in Kisumu, which I have had to cut short to rush here to join my Government colleagues to deal with this sad situation. So far:

1). We have regrettably lost 7 lives to this morning incident that occurred around 8am as the learners of Class 5-8 were starting their morning lessons.
2). Sixty-four (64) learners are admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital. Of these, 62 have soft tissue injuries while two (2) require more attention.
3). More than 600 learners underwent safety checks at the nearby St Mary’s Catholic Centre.
4). Government officials have visited Kenyatta National Hospital and confirmed that all the learners admitted to the institution are in stable condition. I shall also visit the patients in the next few minutes.

The school is dully registered and has an enrolment of 800 learners.

We have set up a multi-agency group comprising officials from the County Government, local leaders and ministries of Education, Interior and Coordination of National Government, and Health to work with the Kenya Red Cross to manage the situation.

The Team will also conduct thorough investigations on the possible causes of the tragedy and submit a report to me for action.

In the meantime, we have asked learners to stay at their homes over the next four days as we put in place measures to ensure their safety of learning.

We will keep providing updates on this situation from time to time.”

The President, HE Uhuru Kenyatta, has joined other Kenyans in mourning the fallen young souls;

“My heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to families of the children affected by the tragedy at Precious Talent Academy in Dagoretti. Our agencies are taking urgent actions to contain the situation and alleviate further suffering.” President Kenyatta.
