2019 Term 2 school games- St. Peters Mumias in emphatic win as Kakamega’s ‘Green Commandos’ are eliminated

St Peters Mumias are the new Kakamega County champs after seeing off Emanani at the boys under 19 soccer final. The final that was played at Musingu High on Saturday 8th June, 2019, attracted a large crowd of fans.

Earlier on the Saints had surprisingly hammered reigning National champs Kakamega High 3-0 at their opening group A match. They then went on to defeat Lugusi High 2-1 before finally humbling Lubinu Boys 2-0 in their last group A match.

In the quarters, the St. Peters had to leave it late to overcome stiff opposition. The two teams had drawn 1-1 on regulation and added time. Butere High went on to win 5-3 on post match penalties.

It was an easy walk in the pack, though, for the newbies who thumped Kakamega Township 2-0 in the semis.

It is another exciting season in the Secondary schools National Term one games as the Coast region plays host to Kenya’s creme de la creme when it comes to matters sports. Shimo La Tewa and Shanzu Teachers Training College in Mombasa is the place to be this April holiday as the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association, KSSSA, presents nut cracking clashes in Rugby 15’s, Rugby 7’s, Handball, Hockey and Basketball. Learners will also be showing their prowess in Athletics and Cross Country. Teams are expected in Mombasa by Monday 8th April, 2019, ahead of action kick off on Tuesday 9th April, 2019.

In basketball both Laiser Hill (boys) and Kaya Tiwi (Girls) will be defending their titles that they won during the 2018 games held at Kangaru school. The two teams have had a good run through their qualifiers from the grass roots where they have recorded colossal wins. It is a similar case in both handball boys and girls as Kimilili and Moi Girls Kamusinga; respectively, bid to defend their titles.

Hopes by Trans Nzoia Mixed to defend their trophy at the national stage were thwarted by newbies St. Mary’s Tachasis who overcame them by a 2-0 margin at the Rift Valley Regional Games final. In the boys’ category, holders St. Anthony’s will be hoping to replicate their heroics at last year’s edition in Kangaru that saw them win gold.
