KSSSA Term 1 Games, 2019- It is down to business as teams kick off battle for tickets to East Africa Games

This year’s Kenya Secondary Schools term one games kick off on Tuesday 9th April, 2019. The games featuring basketball, handball, hockey, rugby 7’5, Athletics, Rugby 15’s, Cross Country and swimming are being hosted at Shimo La Tewa High School and Shanzu Teachers Training College in Mombasa County. According to the Programme of events released by the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association, KSSSA, Referees shall have a one day coordination clinic on Monday 8th april, 2019, in readiness for action the following day. The General Programme for this year’s championship shall be as follows:

  1. Monday 8th April, 2019: Coordination Clinics for referees.
  2. Tuesday 9th April, 2019: Preliminary matches Day one
  3. Wednesday 10th April, 2019: Preliminaries Day two, Swimming Day One and Cross Country .
  4. Thursday 11th April, 2019: Final preliminary matches, Swimming Day Two and Athletics Day One.
  5. Friday 12th April, 2019: Athletics Day Two and Semi Finals.
  6. Saturday 13th April, 2019: Play offs and Finals.

Teams take to the fields of play on Tuesday morning as they battle for tickets to this year’s Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association, FEASSSA, games that will be held at Arusha, Tanzania, in August. In Girls basketball, holders Kaya Tiwi from the Coast Region will open their title defence against Mua Girls from the Coast Region. In the boys’ category, Champions Laiser Hill from the Rift Valley Region will face off with hosts Aga Khan Academy in their opening pool A clash.

2019 Secondary Schools National Term One Games- Final Results and list of winners

The 2019 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports association, KSSSA, National Term One Games have come to a close today, saturday 13th April- 2019, at Shimo La Tewa/ Shanzu Teachers Training College; in Mombasa. The one week-long games featured: Rugby 15’s, Rugby 7’s, Hockey, Basketball, Handball, Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country. The Brookside Dairies Sponsored championship saw new champions emerging in Rugby 15’s, Rugby 7’s, Girls’ hockey, Girls’ Basketball and Girls’ Handball. Here are the final day results and a list of the Champions.

Holders Sironga Girls maul Manga 66-00 in basketball opener as Nyamira County Term 1 Games get underway

Nyamira County girls’ Basketball defending champions, Sironga Girls, were in fine form after they hammered Manga girls 66-00 in their opening match that was played at Gekano girls today. Sironga’s Emily Kamau was the star of the match after garnering 18 points for the 2018 champs. In Girls handball, former champions Masosa Girls were off to a flying start thumping Gonza Gonzaga 17 vs 03 in a girls’ pool C opener played at Kiendege Secondary. Ikonge girls were also in impressive form recording a 17- 03 win over Biticha Secondary. The games that got under way today at Gekano girls, Nyambaria boys and Kiendege Secondary enter day 2 tomorrow with mouth watering clashes on the offing. All girls’ basketball matches are being held at Gekano Girls, while Nyambaria boys is hosting boys’ basketball matches. On the other hand Rugby, Athletics, Cross Country and Handball are happening at Kiendege Secondary. Winners in each category will represent the county at the Nyanza Region games slated for the 16th to 20th March, 2019, at Homa Bay School.

2019 KSSSA National Term one games- complete list of qualifiers per region and national pools

It is another exciting season in the Secondary schools National Term one games as the Coast region plays host to Kenya’s creme de la creme when it comes to matters sports. Shimo La Tewa and Shanzu Teachers Training College in Mombasa is the place to be this April holiday as the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association, KSSSA, presents nut cracking clashes in Rugby 15’s, Rugby 7’s, Handball, Hockey and Basketball. Learners will also be showing their prowess in Athletics and Cross Country. Teams are expected in Mombasa by Monday 8th April, 2019, ahead of action kick off on Tuesday 9th April, 2019.

In basketball both Laiser Hill (boys) and Kaya Tiwi (Girls) will be defending their titles that they won during the 2018 games held at Kangaru school. The two teams have had a good run through their qualifiers from the grass roots where they have recorded colossal wins. It is a similar case in both handball boys and girls as Kimilili and Moi Girls Kamusinga; respectively, bid to defend their titles.

Hopes by Trans Nzoia Mixed to defend their trophy at the national stage were thwarted by newbies St. Mary’s Tachasis who overcame them by a 2-0 margin at the Rift Valley Regional Games final. In the boys’ category, holders St. Anthony’s will be hoping to replicate their heroics at last year’s edition in Kangaru that saw them win gold.
