The nationwide retraining program for the 19,000 newly hired teachers begins.
On April 22, more than 19,000 teacher interns who were hired in numerous counties around the nation at the end of last year began their training, with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) requesting higher reimbursement rates.
Most teachers who spoke to Education News lamented the low rates, which fall short of the ever-increasing cost of living.
“The training locations are quite distant this time. We are forced to hire lodges in order to save time,” said Dennis, a teacher intern from Busia County.
It was determined that, in contrast to last year’s retooling, the majority of sites underwent adjustments as a result of certain school administration’s reluctance to host the activity, which cited a protracted delay in reimbursement for services provided by the commission.
A survey conducted on the first day of the retooling showed that the majority of the Western region’s centers started the process sooner than planned. Most centers were filled with trainees by 9 a.m.
The exercise in Navakholo got off to a quick start, and the TSC County Director insisted that all instructors be present.
The exercise got off to a positive start in the Eastern area, where Trainer of Trainers (TOTs) highlighted the training’s comparative slowness because the students were completely unfamiliar with competency-based curricula.
The number of male and female students in the Kangundo Sub-county was the same.
Financial organizations mostly visited training centers in the central area, and the trainees claimed that this took up the majority of the time allotted for training sessions.
The trainees also expressed concerns at several sites about the instructors’ propensity to engage in lengthy discussions that strayed from the course material.
The Kilgoris Sub-county, which began at 10:36 a.m., was one of the Rift Valley region’s centers that started the exercise late. In the Ainabkoi Sub-county, the exercise was often interrupted by a faulty projector.
It is important to note that the majority of the nation’s retooling initiatives for April got off to a solid start. At the county level, there was training in special needs education (SNE).
This time, the amount of trainees was significantly less. It was found that just age-based trainees from SNE schools, which include hearing, visual, and physical schools, were invited.
