A Secondary school teacher was on Tuesday, 6th March 2019, presented in a Bungoma court for allegedly beating a student to death. The teacher, Mr Crispinus Wabwile Wanyonyi, faces murder charges after beating a form two boy at his station to death for failing to complete a class assignment he had given him.

Mr Wanyonyi, a teacher at Bishop Adudo Boys in Bungoma, was presented before Bungoma Senior Magistrate, Mutai, to answer the murder allegations. Corporal punishment was banned in schools.

The prosecutor requested judge Mutai for more time to continue keeping Mr Wanyonyi in custody as more investigations are carried out.

The prosecutor told the court that the teacher beat up the Form 2 boy on 5th February, 2019 resulting to him sustaining serious head injuries. The boy then fell sick prompting the school Principal to send him home for medication.

The boy’s parents then took him to the Bungoma West Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for about two weeks.

Unfortunately, the boy died on 3rd March, 2019 while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Mr Wanyonyi is also a Sports Secretary in Bumula Urban, Bungoma County.
