Nyanza region sports clinic for teachers comes to an end, a total of over 1,000 teachers trained

The three day Nyanza Region training for referees and coaches came to a close today at Kisumu Day Secondary School, in Kisumu. The training that targeted high school teachers, from the region, saw over 1,000 participants receive coaching and refereeing tips. Interpretation of the rules of the game, officiating and match management tips were also given.

The Kisumu Day clinic saw attendance by teachers from the six counties that make up the region; Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira.

Teachers trained in: Hockey, Basketball, Handball, Athletics, Rugby, Volleyball, Netball, Soccer, Swimming and Racquet Games. Disciplines like handball attracted many participants, over 150, causing unprecedented strain on available resources.

The clinic comes ahead of kick-off to this year’s term one games; with grass root championships slated for this coming week. The term one games, that will be played under the new changes introduced by the Ministry of Education, will feature: Basketball, Handball, Hockey, Rugby 15’s, Rugby 7’s, Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country.

The Nyanza Region term 1 games will go down on 18th to 23rd March, 2019 at Homa Bay County, Homa Bay school.
