The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the July series of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has also introduced the Orbit Readers for candidates with visual impairments, alongside the implementation of e-assessment for the KCSE Computer Studies examination.
Kipsang articulated that these initiatives are designed to improve the administration and inclusivity of national examinations. The additional examination period is intended to provide candidates with greater flexibility, enabling them to select a timetable that aligns with their academic readiness.
During the announcement of the 2024 KCSE results, Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos indicated that the mid-year examinations will commence in July 2025, with results anticipated in August. He emphasized that this initiative presents an opportunity for individuals seeking to enhance their previous KCSE scores or for those who were unable to sit for the examinations due to unforeseen circumstances.
Kipsang further elaborated that the introduction of Orbit Readers for visually impaired candidates will foster inclusivity, allowing these individuals to engage more effectively in examinations and assessments. The Orbit Reader functions as a braille display, book reader, and note-taker, thereby alleviating the stress associated with examinations for visually impaired students.
Additionally, the transition of the KCSE Computer Studies Examination to an electronic assessment format reflects the evolving digital landscape, ensuring that candidates are adept in contemporary computing environments.
KNEC has planned a series of online briefings and sensitization meetings with key stakeholders to facilitate the effective communication and implementation of these changes. These meetings are intended to ensure a seamless transition to the new examination formats and the optimal use of assistive technologies, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality and accessibility of education in Kenya.
Stakeholders are encouraged to actively participate in the scheduled meetings, with access links and further information to be disseminated one day prior to each session.
