Kibabii university closed following students’ unrest

Kibabii university has been closed indefinitely following students’ unrests. The university was closed on Saturday 23rd March, 2019. This follows unrests staged on Friday night by students. The students were protesting against an incident in which a car hit a female comrade during the institution’s 2019 beauty show. The irate students burnt down kiosks adjacent to the university and set ablaze a fence that separates the school with Kibabii Boys High School.

The university is set to host this year’s National drama festivals in April.

The University’s Senate resolved to close the institution to prevent further damages.

“Following the disruption of University Programmes by Students on the night of Friday 22nd March, 2019 and the morning of Saturday 23rd March, 2019, and in view of the safety of Students, Staff and Property of the University and the surrounding community, the University Senate in its Special Meeting held on Saturday 23rd March, 2019 at 10.00 am in the Vice Chancellor’s Boardroom A, resolved to close the University indefinitely,” reads a memo by Professor Ernest S. Muhochi who is the university’s academic affairs registrar.

Students were expected to clear from the institution’s premises immediately.

“In view of the foregoing, all Students are required to vacate the University premises today Saturday 23rd March, 201,9 by 2.00 pm,” adds Prof Ernest.
