Students from the University of Kabianga staged protests yesterday afternoon, after a student was found murdered outside his hostel over a case of suspected love triangle misunderstanding. The students   staged the demos at the Kisii- Kericho road engaging policemen in long running battles. 22 year old Dennis Mukasa, who was a student in Bachelor of Communication in public relations, died from stab wounds inflicted during a fight outside a house he had rented.

In a memo dated 6.10.2018 Kabianga University Deputy Dean of Students, Dr. M.G. Wosyanju, urged for calmness. “We regret to announce the death of one of our students who was murdered by an assailant on Friday 5th October 2018 at around midnight, within Kabianga vicinity,” wrote Dr. Wosyanju.

University vice chancellor, Professor Wilson Kipng’eno, said the student had been out partying in the company of his friends at the local trading centre where he was involved in an argument with neighbors when he returned home. His colleagues reportedly heard the commotion and and on rushing to the scene found Mukasa lying outside in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the university’s health centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“It is a very sad situation and we wait for the process now by the security systems to be able to unravel what really happened,” said Prof. Kipng’eno yesterday, while addressing journalists.

The Vice Chancellor said they were yet to contact the slain student’s family. “We are trying to actually pass the message to the family of this young man. We have sent a team of officers to his home,” he said.
