Education Ministry to carry out schools’ Census via NEMIS; Schools to provide data by 8/3/2019

The Ministry of Education has directed schools to provide census details for 2017 and 2018 via the National Education Management Information System, NEMIS. Through a questionnaire uploaded to the accounts of all public and private Primary and Secondary schools, data on performance at the National Examinations, Students’ population, Physical facilities and learning materials received (textbooks) is to be uploaded by Friday 8th March, 2019.

Through a circular dated 26th February, 2019, Education Principal Dr Belio Kipsang asks all County Directors of Education to ensure that all schools under their jurisdiction provide the data by using the prescribed format.


“The Ministry of Education is carrying out 2017 & 2018 schools census by
use of a questionnaire which has been uploaded to all the public and
private primary and secondary schools. To this end each head of the
institution is supposed to fill the questionnaire online as part of the NEMIS
data . These details should be provided on or before Friday 8h March,
2019,” says Dr Belio Kipsang.

HOW TO UPLOAD THE DATA.

To upload the required census data;

  1. Log onto NEMIS by using the official Log in Credentials.\
  2. On the School’s NEMIS home page, locate the ‘NEMIS DATASHEET’ hyperlink and click on it. This will open up two datasheet categories; datasheet for Year 2017 Second Term and datasheet for Year 2018 Second Term.
  3. Open each at a time and fill through the fields under: Static Data, Enrollment, Special Needs, Staff and Textbooks. Remember to save data uploaded under each category.

The Education Ministry uses the NEMIS portal to disburse Free Day Secondary Education, FDSE, and Free Primary Education, FPE, funds. The Portal is also used provide Medical cover to all learners under the National Hospital Insurance Fund, NHIF, among other uses.
