Education Ministry Changes schools opening date for term 3, 2019 to allow census to be concluded

The Ministry of Education has pushed ahead the opening dates for all schools so as to allow smooth conclusion of the 2019 National Housing and Population Census exercise. This follows a request by the Kenya Bureau of National Statistics, knbs, that the dates be adjusted so that to maximize data collection. The new opening date for term 3 has been moved to September 2 from the earlier communicated date.

Here is the presser from the Principal Secretary in charge of Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang;

‘RE: CHANGE OF OPENING DATE: TERM 3, 2019

The National Population and Housing Census exercise has been scheduled for the night of 24/25 August, 2019 to 31 August, 2019.

However, this date has coincided with the opening date for Term 3 which is 26 August, 2019.
For the forthcoming census to be successful, it is the desire of the National Bureau of Statistics that there be minimum movements of the population so that they may get as many people as possible in conventional households.

It is therefore important that we reschedule the opening date for Term 3, 2019 to start on 2nd September, 2019 and end on 25 October, 2019. This will enhance the data quality is all students will be captured.’
