Developing Story: Explosion at Latema Junction in Nairobi.

Two people have sustained injuries, tonight, after a suspected Improvised Explosive Device, IED, exploded at Latema Junction, Odeon Cinema;  Tom Mboya Street in Nairobi.

The suspected who had the IED handed over the luggage to a trolley pusher, Joseph Okinyi, and an explosion followed up.

Police officers are on the scene and security is under control. Two people were injured have been rushed to hospital for treatment. The trolley pusher was injured on the arm while a newspaper vendor sustained an injury on his leg. The incident occurred at about 7.30 pm; tonight.

Early reports indicate the individual who handed the luggage to the trolley pusher informed him that he had forgotten his ID. Then he went back for it and the explosion went up after about 8 minutes. The identity of the man with the luggage and his motive have not been revealed, as at now. The police say the owner of the luggage was of Somali origin. Nairobi Regional Commander, Philip Ndolo, says no casualties have been recorded and that they have one individual who is assisting the police in executing investigations. Ndolo says police are combing the area for more evidence.

“I want to appeal to members of public to fight this war of terrorism with us by ensuring that they know their neighbors,” said Ndolo at a press conference on Saturday night.

There are almost 3 CCTV cameras from Babadogo stage upto Odeon on the Latema Street. These Cameras may come in handy in unraveling the identity of the Somali man.

This comes a few days after a terrorist attack at Dusit hotel in the city.
