The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) is set to switch off unregistered sim cards on Saturday, October 15, a deadline set by the government.
12.5 million subscribers risk losing their SIM card functionalities if they have not registered. So far, Telkom Kenya has 40%, Airtel Kenya has 78% & Safaricom 91% subscribers who have complied fully to the registration exercise.
Those who will not have complied with October 15, 2022 deadline, will be locked out of calling, messaging, data and all SIM-associated features by Mobile Network Operators until they meet all requirements.
Those in possession of unregistered SIM cards will also face fines of up to Sh300,000 or a jail term of six months, or both from tomorrow.
