CBC implementation- Over 100,000 teachers to be trained in April, 2019

Over 100,000 teachers are set to receive skills on how to implement the new Competency Based Curriculum, CBC. The training scheduled for April, 2019, will target about 68,490 teachers in lower primary and 22,830 head teachers. Other groups targeted include officers from the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), The Institute of Special Education (KISE), The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). Others are: Officials from the Kenya National examinations Council (KNEC), Centre For Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) and The Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI).

Already, close to 170,000 teachers have been trained to handle kids up to Grade three with the Government targeting to train another 110,000 more to handle Grades four to Six.

On 4th April, 2019, Dr Nancy Macharia, TSC CEO, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof.George Magoha, and Prof Collette Suda, the Principal Secretary, State department for University Education held a meeting aimed at creating synergy between TSC and the Ministry of Education’s staff.

HERE IS THE TRAINING SCHEDULE FOR CBC IMPLEMENTATION:

1. 8th to 12th April, 2019: Training of Master Trainers and Trainers of Trainers.
2. 22nd to 26th April, 2019: Training of 68,490 teachers in Lower Primary and 22,830 Head Teachers.
