All set for the Nyanza Region term 2 games at Kisumu Boys as county championships come to a close

Teams set to compete at this year’s Nyanza Region Secondary schools term two games have been revealed. This follows the conclusion of championships across the six counties that make up the Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Sports Association, NRSSSA. By close of business on Saturday 8th June, 2019, all counties had concluded their championships giving way for the Regional championship to be held in less than two weeks’ time.

Kisumu County Qualifiers

In Kisumu county; who were first to conclude their championship, Nyakach girls booked tickets in three of the the four girls’ disciplines namely: Netball, volleyball and soccer under 19. Nyakach were joined by Bishop Abiero Magwar (Netball), Koru Girls (Volleyball), St. Alloys Reru Girls (Soccer Under 16) and Magadi (Soccer Under 19). In the boys’ category St. Joseph and Thurdibuor qualified in volleyball while Maseno School grabbed the Soccer under 16 ticket. 2018 Regional finalists Kisumu Day and Awasi took the boys’ soccer under 19 slots to complete the list of team qualifiers to the Regional games.

Siaya County

Former East Africa games soccer under 19 Champions, Barding, bounced back after missing out from last year’s championship. At this year’s Regional games, Barding will be joined by Lwak Girls (Soccer Under 16), Hawinga Girls (Soccer under 19), Sega Girls and and Lwak (Volleyball) and Ambira (Boys Volleyball) from Siaya.

Gesero Secondary Defends Kisii County Soccer Under 19 Titles.

It was a sweet victory for the Gesero Secondary School’s soccer Under 19 boys and girls teams as they successfully defended their Kisii County trophies. The Boys’ team popularly known as the Tsunami had to overcome the hard battling Nduru Boys at today’s finals. The game between Gesero and Nduru was decided on spot kicks after both teams failed to score in regulation and extra time. And when the spot kicks were taken Gesero emerged victorious converting four of their five penalties against Nduru’s three.

Apart from Gesero Boys (Soccer Boys under 19) and Girls (Soccer Girls under 19), regional boys’ volleyball defending champions Mogonga defended their County trophy by overcoming compatriots Sengera; who also qualify to the regional games. Other teams that will grace this year’s regional games are: Omwari (Volleyball Girls), Mogonga (Netball), Mobamba (soccer boys under 16) and Riyabu ELCK (soccer girls under 16).

Nyamira County Games.

Sironga girls headlines the list of qualifiers to this year’s regional games by producing two teams; volleyball and soccer girls under 16. Others are Mokomoni (Netball), Riomego SDA (Volleyball boys), St. Mathias Mulumba (Soccer Girls Under 19) and Nyambaria Boys (Soccer boys under 16). Migori County.

Koderobara boys won the Migori County Soccer under 19 title by overcoming Bondo Kosiemo at the finals on post match penalties. Other qualifiers are Bondo Kosiemo (Soccer Girls Under 19), Isebania Boys (Soccer Under 16 Boys), Ugari ( Soccer Under 19 Girls), Ageng’a (Volleyball Boys), Mabera (Volleyball Girls) and Kadika Girls (Netball).

Homa Bay County

Finally, in Homa Bay County championship, Regional soccer boys under 19 defending champions Ringa were bundled out by Tom Mboya Secondary. Playing in front of their fans Ringa conceded an early penalty against Tom Mboya who held on to record the narrow 1-0 win. In the other semi final played on Saturday 8th June, 2019, Agoro Sare fell to eventual winners Simbi on post match penalties. The two teams had tied 2-2 after extra time and Simbi went on to win by converting 7 penalties against Agoro’s 6. Both finalists (Tom Mboya and Simbi) booked tickets to the Regional games and will be joined by Kobala and Ototo (Soccer Girls under 19), Agoro Sare (Soccer Boys under 16), Kobala (Soccer Girls under 16), Oriwo (Volleyball Boys), Magare Girls (Volleyball) and Kobala (Netball).

This year’s regional games are slated for the 18th to 22nd June, 2019, at Kisumu Boys high school in Kisumu County.
