Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. Masinde Muliro University, MMUST, issues statement on re-opening of the institution after recent students’ strike.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, MMUST, has come out to dispel news that it has recalled students back after they strikes and were sent home this month. The university now says the memo doing rounds on Social media is fake and that official communication will come from the University on the correct opening dates.

“Our attention has been drawn to a MEMO circulating on social media allegedly coming from the Office of the Registrar (Academic Affairs instructing students to commence classes on 26th September, 2019,” reads a presser from the university.

“This is to advise all students to ignore the FAKE MEMO. Plans are underway to recall students once the cause of the unrest is determined and addressed. The reopening schedule shall be/published in the mainstream daily media.
Any other form of communication will not
be coming from the University,” adds the presser.

On Wednesday 18th September, 2019 the University Special Senate meeting resolved to close the University with immediate effect because of the students’ unrest.
This was after the students went on a rampage, protesting the management’s demand that all students must clear fees balances before registering for courses and sitting for exams.

Other grievances, as raised by the students, included the university’s lukewarm reaction to the frequent deaths of students.

The angry students stoned vehicles in the car parking yard within the university premises, shattering all windows of the university ambulance.

They also made the university inaccessible by using ‘matatu’ to block the entrance to the Vice Chancellor’s office.

Bachelor of Commerce Be a holder of K.C.S.E with a minimum aggregate of C+ (plus) and a minimum of C (plain) in both Mathematics and English OR Be a holder of a Diploma in a relevant discipline with Credit pass from MUST or any other institution recognized by MUST Senate. Note: Candidates who are CPA/CPS/ACCA/CCP finalists will be exempted from year 1.  However, the candidates are expected to undertake the University core units.
Bachelor of Purchasing and Supplies Management Be a holder of K.C.S.E with a minimum aggregate of C+ (plus) and a minimum of C (plain) in both Mathematics and English OR Be a holder of a Diploma in a relevant discipline with Credit pass from MUST or any other institution recognized by MUST Senate. Candidates who hold a Diploma from MUST will be exempted for one year of study for Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Purchasing and Supplies Management. Master of Science in Public Health Be a Holder of a first degree in the following fields: Medicine (MBCHB), Nursing(BSc.N), Pharmacy (B. Pharm) and Dentistry (BDS). A holder of a first degree, First Class Honours or Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in any of the following fields: Environmental Health, Community Health, Nutrition and Health Systems Management, Medical Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Sciences OR A holder of a first degree Second Class Honours (Lower Division) in the above disciplines with a minimum of two years post qualification experience in a health related field plus acceptable evidence of research ability and  evidence of publication.
Master of Science in Epidemiology
Master of Science in Medical Education A Bachelor’s degree with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (B average) on a 4.0 scale OR An Upper Second Class Honours in a relevant degree programme or an equivalent qualification from recognized University. In exceptional cases, the Senate may also admit to the Masters Programme candidates with Lower Second Class Honors degree but with proven relevant research, professional and scholarly experience. Subject to approval by the Senate, Departments may formulate regulations requiring applicants to have attained other academic qualifications as may be consistent with the goals of the Master’s programme.  Candidates may be invited for interview to assess their suitability for admission.

Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.

Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.

TEACHERS SERVICE COMMISSION (TSC) REQUIREMENTS FOR PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS

Students registering for a Bachelor of Education degree programme should be informed that:
  • the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) which is the Commission mandated by law to register and employ teachers requires prospective teachers to have a minimum mean grade C+ and above at KCSE,
  • the prospective student teacher to have also earned a minimum grade C+ in the selected two teaching subjects, and
  • have attended and passed at least 8 course units in each of the two (2) teaching subjects at the University.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is mandated with the responsibility of placing students to higher institutions of learning; Universities, Colleges, Polytechnics and TVETs. KUCCPS is the Government of Kenya body that undertakes the selection of students for admission to higher learning institutions for Government sponsorship. After students have selected their courses, kuccps reviews and places them accordingly. Such students can then check their placement results, online, after the selection process.

How to Check Course and University admitted to; KUCCPS 2020/2021

For the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, candidates, you can check for your placement results but after kuccps has finalized the selection process. After the announcement of the results, then use the procedure below to check placement results;
  • Visit: https://students.kuccps.net/
  • Login with your details as follows;
  • Username: (Use your full Index Number)
  • Year: (2019)
  • Password: (Use your Birth Certificate Number or KCPE index number)

After login you should see a box like the one below with a message that reads

Congratulations, followed by a university you have been placed then finally the course you will pursue.

Remember, there are 3 periods provided for by kuccps in order to apply for courses of your choice. These include:

1). School application window: This is opened usually in October/ November for candidates to choose their courses, long before they sit for the KCSE exams. This is the best moment for you to apply for your course choices. This way, you stand a better chance of joining your preferred course and is also it is cheaper; you pay only Sh500.

2). KUCCPS first revision:
First revision for degree and diploma choices will be on dates to be announced by placement service after the release of KCSE results.

3). KUCCPS second revision:
Candidates who will not have qualified on competitive selection for any of their preferred choices during the first round of selection will be given a chance to do second revision by selecting courses with unfilled capacities.

4). Placement to any programme:
Any applicant who fails to qualify for their choices but meet the cut off points for placement may be offered any course with unfilled capacities taking into account the minimum requirements for admission.

This admission offer is made on the basis of the statement of your qualifications as presented by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) or other approved examination bodies. As a student you will be expected to register for courses in your degree programme. Any change of Faculty or Department will be permitted only by approval of the University Authorities. A bona fide student will be considered to be one registered in the University during a current academic year. Students unable to register in the academic year may Defer their studies or take an Academic Leave for that academic year. This should be done by writing a letter to the office of the Registrar (Academic Affairs), stating reasons for deferment to the next academic year.
