Corona virus in Kenya and China; Kenya Airways cancels flights to China

Kenya Airways has suspended all flights to China with immediate effect. This is in the wake of the outbreak of the deadly Corona Virus in China.

Here is the presser from the Kenya Airways;

“Further to our prior communication regarding the current Corona virus outbreak, we have temporarily suspended all flights to and from Guangzhou starting Friday, 31t January 2020, until further notice.
We however, clarify that our service between Nairobi and Bangkok remains operational.

Our consultation with the Ministries Health and Foreign Affairs will continue and we will provide updates as the situation develops.

We apologise to all our customers for the inconvenience and reaffirm that the safety of our customers and staff remains our highest priority.”

Kenya Airways has a fleet of 40 aircraft as at the date of this Press Statement.
These include 20 aeroplanes that are directly owned and operated by Kenya
Airways, and 20 aeroplanes that Kenya Airways has leased from other entities.

In a bid to address overcapacity and to optimize the utilization of its assets, Kenya Airways has leased a number of its aircraft to other airlines. Of the 40
aeroplanes in its fleet, Kenya Airways has leased three Boeing 777-300ER aeroplanes to Turkish Airlines, and one Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to Oman Air.

Kenya Airways earns lease rental income from these arrangements.

Tonight, the passengers will travel in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The flight from Nairobi to Newyork, in America, will take 15 hours. While, it will take the Aeroplane 14 hours from New York to Nairobi. The journey is 11,800 Kilometers.

Kenya becomes the first East African country and the eighth in Africa to operate direct flights to the United States, US.

4 pilots and 12 attendants take charge of the Plane that carries 234 passengers. The plane consumes 85 tonnes of fuel; one way.

The average cost of an economy class return ticket is KShs. 90,000. While, business class passengers will pay about KShs. 260,000.
