2025 Kazi Mtaani: Climate Works to Create 113,000 Job Opportunities for Youth
The Kazi Mtaani program is making a comeback under the Climate Workx Youth Employment Initiative, aiming to provide 113,000 young individuals with manual labor positions over a six-month span starting at the end of June 2025.
With a substantial budget of Ksh. 5 billion allocated by the Ministry of Roads, this initiative will roll out across 46 counties, leaving out Nairobi, which already boasts a similar program benefiting over 20,000 youths.
Young people from these 46 counties eager for temporary manual jobs have a window of 10 days to register online before they undergo a recruitment process overseen by local chiefs and assistant chiefs.
The government, represented by Principal Secretaries Charles Hinga (Housing), Raymond Omollo (Interior), and Joseph Mbugua (Roads), has stipulated that only one member per family can enroll, with a focus on supporting low-income households.
“We’re aiming to uplift low-income individuals aged 20-35 to enhance their living standards,” explained PS Hinga.
PS Omollo emphasized the program’s effectiveness in Nairobi, which has successfully minimized political interference.
“The projects will include pathways and bridges,” added PS Mbugua, highlighting the scope of the work involved.
The revival of the Kazi Mtaani initiative during President William Ruto’s mid-term comes after his previous criticism of the program as Deputy President, when he had initially discontinued it upon taking office.
