Avoiding overconsumption

Avoiding overconsumption

We consume every day: food, information, resources, and clothes. We often buy without thinking that behind each item produced is the time and effort of the people who made it. Resources, including water, wood, and energy sources, are used for this. What awaits our planet and our descendants if we don’t stop this endless process of mindless consumption and overproduction?

Most often we simply go with the flow, thinking that we have no power to influence the situation. After all, it’s such a mega-system, a system in which it seems impossible to change anything.

In fact, simple actions can help you become an active participant in reducing overproduction and conserving natural resources.

Don’t Make Spontaneous Purchases Based on Emotion

This often leads to not needing or using an item purchased only once. For such cases it is convenient to have two cards, one of which will contain a small amount “for the necessary things”, and to take it with you to the store.

But if you still want to purchase something, invest in some virtual activities. For example, you can try betting at Bet22 or buy unique NFTs. It will help you become an owner of something special and avoid overconsumption.

Use Reusable Items

For example, a shopper made of fabric will be an alternative to plastic bags. If you like coffee, you can buy a collapsible silicone cup. You can also use reusable tubes, cotton buds and bamboo toothbrushes. For washing dishes, use jute and loofah sponges.

Use Old Things for the Second Time

This way, you will be able to save money and help the world around you.

Ketchup bottles can be washed and reused for their intended purpose instead of spending money on special containers. The same goes for cosmetic containers.

Ribbons and string should come in handy when you need to wrap a gift or tie up something.

Furthermore, a used shower cap can be great for quickly wrapping shoes or covering muddy soles.

Moreover, ground coffee left over from a brewed beverage is quite effective body scrub. The easiest way to use such a natural cosmetic is simply to rub areas of the skin with a wet coffee mass.

Buy Natural Household Remedies

You can buy such products by weight, in reusable containers. Now there are more and more stores that provide such an opportunity.

Choose Items Made From Natural Materials

Clothes and underwear made of linen or soybeans are breathable and lightweight. Thanks to its natural origin, it doesn’t cause allergies. More and more people prefer these materials for their closet.

Making Mats out of Knitwear

Knitted t-shirts, which have become unnecessary, can be cut into strips that will become the basis for a rug, crocheted. Such things, made by their own hands, can decorate the dacha interior or become a gift to grandmother.

Donate Items to Charity

Things that you no longer wear, you can give to an elderly neighbor, take to the temple or to numerous collection companies.

Buy Clothes at a Thrift Store

This way things will get a second life and no extra resources will be spent to produce them.

Use Furniture Restoration

You can give your own furniture that you bought from hand on the ad or your own furniture to a master restorer or enroll in a workshop, where you will be taught how to give it a second life. As a result, you’ll get a thing that will be an interesting accent in the interior and will serve for many years to come.

Give Your Work Equipment to Those Who Need It

Computers and other equipment will be welcome in the department of any charitable organization. Such organizations compile lists of families with many children who need equipment and cannot afford to buy it themselves. Non-working appliances can be sent for parts to a repair shop or for recycling to a recycling center.

Make a Shopping List Before You Go to the Store

This will prevent the products you have bought in advance from spoiling and you will be forced to throw them away. It isn’t a good idea to go to the store on an empty stomach so that you don’t buy too much.
