Primary Schools To Benefit From Padding Girls Initiative

Padding the Girl Initiative, an NGO targets to provide 1,500 girls in 12 primary schools in Nambale Constituency with free sanitary pads in a programme dubbed ‘Zero Early Pregnancies.’

Ms Maureen Odhiambo, The NGO’s Chairperson who eyes Busia Woman Rep’s seat in next year’s General Election blamed local elected leaders of ignoring the plight of young girls in the county.

She highlighted the need for the society to sensitize girls on the menstrual cycle and support them while undergoing it to empower them and minimize chances of immoral men.“You don’t need all people in Busia County to effect change, you just need yourself and your voice as true change agents will automatically fight with you,” said Odhiambo.

Ms Odhiambo regretted that many girls missed classes during their menses which adversely affected their academic performance, noting that more need to be done to ensure undisrupted school attendance among girls.

“My intention is not actually to give pads only but rather to interact with these precious young lives and mentor them. I want to cultivate in them a winning mentality that will see them achieve anything they will dare put their eyes on,” said Odhiambo.

Matili Primary School Head Teache, Juveniles Okomba, praised the kind gesture from Ms Odhiambo, calling upon elites and politicians in the County to follow suit in order to improve education standards in the region.

How does bitcoin affect the manufacturing industry of Birmingham?

Over the past few years, however, bitcoin has begun to have a significant impact on various industries, including the manufacturing industry of Birmingham. Learn if NFT and BTC be better in the next year.

There are a few reasons why bitcoin has had such an impact on the manufacturing industry of Birmingham. To begin, bitcoin is a computerized money that can acquire products and commodities over the internet. This has made it easier for manufacturers in Birmingham to sell their products and services to consumers around the world.

Second, bitcoin is a secure payment method that can pay for goods and services online. This has made it easier for manufacturers in Birmingham to accept payments from consumers around the world.

Finally, bitcoin is a global currency that can be used to purchase goods and services from any country in the world. This has made it easier for manufacturers in Birmingham to sell their products and services to consumers in other countries.

7 Ways how bitcoin affected the manufacturing industry of Birmingham

Bitcoin has been a hot topic in the past few years. Despite its volatility, bitcoin has had a significant impact on different industries, including the manufacturing industry of Birmingham.

  1. Increased demand for bitcoin-related products

Many manufacturers have started producing goods that are related to bitcoin. This includes products such as mining hardware, wallets, and even clothing. The demand for these products has increased significantly in the past few years, thanks to the increasing popularity of bitcoin.

  1. More jobs in the manufacturing industry

The spike in demand for bitcoin-related items has also resulted in a surge in industrial employment openings.

This is very important for mining hardware and wallet makers. In addition, there has also been an increase in the number of jobs in the software development industry, as more and more companies are looking to develop new bitcoin-related applications.

  1. Increased investments in the manufacturing industry

Many investors are now looking to invest in the manufacturing industry, especially companies that produce bitcoin-related products.

  1. Increased competition among manufacturers

The increase in demand for bitcoin-related products has also led to competition among manufacturers. This is primarily relevant for mining equipment and wallet manufacturers.

  1. Increased profits for manufacturers

The increase in demand for bitcoin-related products has also led to a rise in profits for manufacturers. This is because the products they manufacture are in high order, and there is a lot of competition among manufacturers.

  1. More opportunities for collaboration

The increase in the number of jobs in the manufacturing industry has also led to more opportunities for collaboration.

  1. Increased awareness of the manufacturing industry

The increase in demand for bitcoin-related products has also led to the rise in awareness of the manufacturing industry.

6 Negatives of bitcoin that affected the manufacturing sector of Birmingham

  1. Bitcoin’s volatility has been a massive issue for businesses in the manufacturing sector. The price of bitcoin has swung by hundreds of dollars in a single day, making it difficult to budget and plan for the future.
  2. Bitcoin’s high transaction fees have also been a problem for manufacturers in Birmingham. In some cases, the fees for a single transaction have been as high as $30.
  3. The lack of consumer protection has also been a significant issue for manufacturers in Birmingham.
  4. Bitcoin’s slow processing times have also been a problem for manufacturers.
  5. The lack of clarity about bitcoin’s legal status has also been a problem for manufacturers in Birmingham. Some businesses are afraid to accept bitcoin because they don’t know if they will use it as payment in the future.
  6. The considerable fluctuations in bitcoin prices have also been a problem for manufacturers in Birmingham. In some cases, businesses have had to halt production because they couldn’t afford to pay the high prices for raw materials.

Conclusion:

The increase in demand for bitcoin-related products has positively impacted the manufacturing industry in Birmingham. This is because many jobs have increased, and manufacturers are now looking to collaborate.

However, bitcoin has several flaws that have influenced the industry. These include the volatility of the price of bitcoin, the high transaction fees, and the lack of consumer protection.

CS Magoha warns schools planning to hire university students to impersonate as KCSE 2021 candidates

The latest Education News Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has reminded examinations centre managers to uphold precautions against malpractises throughout the examination period.

Prof Magoha warned the officials manning the exams against lowering their guard in monitoring the conduct of the exams at the tail end of the KCPE tests that winds up today.

Speaking during the opening of the container in Busia County for the final day of KCPE, Magoha confirmed that all protocols had been observed in the County.

He challenged the centre managers to ensure they are at examination containers for collection of exams materials to inspect all examinational materials to they are well secured to avoid unnecessary blame games

“I want to thank the centre manager in part of Nyanza where children were denied registration; those children took their exams and their rights will be observed as the exam is marked even as the crooked managers of the private schools are brought to book,” Magoha said.

Related news;

The CS warned centre managers for KCSE planning to engage in underhand deals to stop confusing candidates by hiring university students to sit for the exams. He confirmed that all agencies are on the lookout for such cases in the country.

“Let me warn again, for the last time, as we go to KCSE examination, we are following up quite a number of cheeky centre managers together with their collaborators, that the integrity of examination shall be protected at all costs,” Magoha added.

He confirmed that marking centres in Nairobi have already began operations by use of the machine for the papers done in the past two days.  Magoha added they will put in consideration that children were out of school for long as the marking exercise commences.

Do not expose candidates to Covid 19- Supervisors, invigilators warned

KCPE Exams 2021- The Kiambu sub-county Director of Education Mrs. Roselyne Litaba  has  cautioned examination  Centre managers and supervisors against exposing the candidates in the name of security checks.

Mrs. Litaba reminded the supervisors, head teachers and invigilators to observe Covid 19 protocol at all times and avoid engaging in unnecessary checks and activities that could compromise the health of the candidates.

She cited an incident that was aired on one of the local Television stations in which a teacher was filmed checking the masks of the pupils before they embarked on writing the examinations.

The director regretted that it was a wrong move because the supervisor who was doing that could easily spread the virus if he was exposed or contaminated.

“Don’t touch the masks of the candidates under whatever circumstances” she warned.

Related news;

Talking to KNA from her office, prior to the opening of the Examination container, Ms. Litaba revealed that one of the candidates from a school in Nairobi was writing his examinations from Kiambu level 5 hospital.

The 15-year-old boy had been admitted to the health facility in mid-February with burns and that the hospital had communicated with her office to facilitate him with revision material to assist him prepare for the National examinations.

She observed that following the notification to her office, the examination team had made arrangements to facilitate the ailing boy with his examination papers beginning from yesterday. “Today are still availing the papers to him because he is yet to recover” she noted.

She however impressed on the supervisors to keep safe and handle the candidates carefully so as to encourage them to do their best despite the difficult times they had gone through during the long holiday occasioned by Covid-19.

Kiambu Deputy county commissioner Mr. Titus Macharia in his address to the team called on them to be vigilant, observant and supportive to the candidates so as to give them moral support in what they were doing.

He added that it was a government directive to ensure that the National examinations were handled competently in a conducive environment that did not cause the pupils any tension.

Elsewhere, from the Juja sub-county, the Sub-county director of Education Mr. Peter Kariuki while addressing the Center managers, reminded them that they to be accompanied by respective security officers.

He however clarified that the security personnel were not the ones entrusted to carry the examination papers. He added that those ferrying the papers were not allowed to use their personal vehicles but that they could share transport with their colleagues going the same directions via the authorized school buses or vans.

He added that the exams must be collected on completion by the center managers who should have their badges on.

According to a KNA spot-check, all those who appeared at the container to collect the examinations had observed social distance and wore their masks appropriately.

The Dangers of Investing in High-Risk Crypto Platforms

The rise of cryptocurrency has created a wave of excitement among investors, who see it as a way to make quick gains. While there are many legitimate crypto platforms that can help investors generate solid returns, there are also many high-risk platforms that can lead to significant losses. In this article, we will explore the dangers of investing in high-risk crypto platforms and the steps investors can take to protect themselves. If you really want considerable profits from this market in a short time then it is best to invest with bitcoinxapp.com.

The Risks of High-Risk Crypto Platforms

High-risk crypto platforms are those that offer investors the opportunity to invest in untested, new or obscure cryptocurrencies with the promise of high returns. These platforms often lack the necessary regulatory oversight, transparency, and security measures that are necessary to protect investors. As a result, investors who put their money into these platforms are exposing themselves to a range of risks.

Lack of Regulation and Oversight

One of the biggest risks associated with high-risk crypto platforms is the lack of regulation and oversight. Unlike traditional financial markets, the cryptocurrency market is largely unregulated, which means that investors have little recourse if they fall victim to fraudulent activities. Without proper oversight, it is easier for scammers to operate in the crypto market, offering investors the chance to invest in high-risk assets that may not even exist.

Volatility

Another risk associated with high-risk crypto platforms is the volatility of the cryptocurrency market. Cryptocurrencies are known for their wild price swings, which can be difficult for investors to predict. As a result, investors who put their money into high-risk crypto platforms can find themselves at the mercy of the market, with no control over the value of their investments.

Lack of Transparency

High-risk crypto platforms often lack transparency, which can make it difficult for investors to make informed decisions about their investments. Without clear information about the platform’s operations, investors may be unaware of the risks associated with investing in the platform.

Security Risks

High-risk crypto platforms are also susceptible to security risks. Without proper security measures in place, these platforms can become vulnerable to hacking and other cyberattacks. If a platform is hacked, investors’ personal information and funds could be compromised, resulting in significant financial losses.

Steps Investors Can Take to Protect Themselves

Despite the risks associated with high-risk crypto platforms, there are steps investors can take to protect themselves.

Do Your Research

Before investing in any crypto platform, it is important to do your research. This means reading up on the platform’s history, reputation, and regulatory compliance. Investors should also research the cryptocurrencies the platform offers and evaluate their potential for long-term growth.

Invest Only What You Can Afford to Lose

Investing in high-risk crypto platforms should only be done with money that investors can afford to lose. Investors should never invest their life savings or borrow money to invest in crypto.

Diversify Your Portfolio

Investors should also diversify their crypto portfolios to reduce the impact of market volatility. This means investing in a range of different cryptocurrencies and platforms, rather than putting all of their money into one high-risk platform.

Choose Regulated Platforms

Investors should prioritize regulated crypto platforms that comply with relevant financial regulations. Regulated platforms are more likely to have proper security measures in place and are less susceptible to fraudulent activities.

Conclusion

Investing in high-risk crypto platforms can be tempting, especially when investors are promised high returns. However, these platforms often lack regulatory oversight, transparency, and security measures, which can put investors at risk of significant financial losses. To protect themselves, investors should do their research, invest only what they can afford to lose, diversify their portfolios, and choose regulated platforms. By taking these steps, investors can minimize the risks associated with high-risk crypto platforms and increase their chances of generating solid returns.

It is important for investors to be aware of the potential dangers associated with high-risk crypto platforms. While it can be tempting to invest in new or obscure cryptocurrencies with the promise of high returns, investors must be cautious and exercise due diligence before committing their funds. Investing in crypto requires a significant amount of knowledge and research, and investors should never invest more than they can afford to lose.

PHOTOELECTRIC EFFECT PHYSICS NOTES

CHAPTER NINE

PHOTOELECTRIC EFFECT

Photoelectric effect was discovered by Heinrich Hertz in 1887. Photoelectric effect is a phenomenon in which electrons are emitted from the surface of a substance when certain electromagnetic radiation falls on it.

Metal surfaces require ultra-violet radiation while caesium oxide needs a visible light i.e. optical spectrum (sunlight).

DEMONSTRATING PHOTOELECTRIC EFFECT

 Using Neutral Plates

Procedure

  • Set up the apparatus as shown in figure 9
  • Direct UV-radiation towards plate A. Observe what happens to the galvanometer.
  • Place the glass barrier in between the source and plate A and again observe what happens.

Observation

When ultraviolet radiation is allowed to fall on metal plate A, the galvanometer shows deflection.

When the barrier is introduced so that the radiation is cut off, the galvanometer shows no deflection .

Explanation

When ultraviolet radiation energy falls on a metal surface, some electrons absorb this energy and are dislodged from the surface.

The deflection of the galvanometer indicates that electrons are emitted at plate A and attracted by the plate B, causing a current to flow.

The glass plate, however, cuts off the ultraviolet radiation.

(b) Using Charged Electroscope

Procedure

  • Direct ultraviolet radiation from a mercury vapour lamp onto the zinc plate and observe the divergence of the leaf when the electroscope is positively charged, see figure

Observation

For the positively charged electroscope, the leaf divergence remains the same. However, for the negatively charged electroscope, the leaf divergence decreases.

Explanation

When the zinc plate is irradiated with ultraviolet radiation, electrons are emitted from its surface.
The photoelectrons emitted from the positively charged zinc plate do not escape due to attraction by the positive charge on the plate and the leaf divergence therefore remains the same.

The photoelectrons emitted from the negatively charged zinc plate are repelled and the electroscope becomes discharged as a result of which the leaf divergence decreases.

If a sheet of ordinary glass (which absorbs ultraviolet radiation) is introduced between the negatively charged zinc plate and the ultraviolet source, the leaf divergence remains same.

Light Energy and Quantum Theory

Max Planck in 1901 came up with the idea that light energy is propagated as small packets of energy.

Each packet is called a quantum of energy (plural: quanta).

In light, these discrete amounts of energy are called photons.

According to Planck, the energy E possessed by one photon is given by; E = hf, where, h is Planck’s constant equal to 6.63 x 10-34 J s and f the frequency of the radiation.

c=fλ

Hence

Thus  where c is the velocity of the radiation in vacuum and λ is the wavelength.

Since c and h are constant, a radiation of longer wavelength has lower energy

Terms used in photoelectric effect

Work function W₀

A minimum amount of work is needed to remove an electron from its energy level so as to overcome the forces binding it to the surface.

This work is known as the work function with units of electron volts (eV). One electron volt is the work done when one electron is transferred between points with a potential difference of one volt; that is,

1 eV = 1 electron × 1 volt

1 eV = 1.6 × 10-19 × 1 volt

  • eV = 1.6× 10-19 Joules (J)

Threshold frequency f₀

This is the minimum frequency of the radiation that will cause a photoelectric effect on a certain surface. The higher the work function, the higher the threshold frequency.

Threshold Wavelength λ₀

This is the maximum the maximum wavelength beyond which no photoelectric emission will occur.

Work function W₀=hf₀

For any radiation of frequency f less than f₀, hf will be lower than W0 and emission will not occur.

When the frequency of the radiation is fo‘ hf₀ = W₀ (the work function), and emission occurs.

When the frequency of the radiation f > f₀, hf > W₀ and the excess energy in this case appears as the kinetic energy of the emitted electron.

Factors affecting the photoelectric effect

  1. Intensity of the incident radiation– the rate of emission of photoelectrons is directly proportional to the intensity of incident radiation.
  2. Type of the metal/Work function of the surface– photoelectrons are emitted at different velocities with the maximum being processed by the ones at the surface.
  • Energy of the incident radiation– the cut-off potential for each surface is directly proportional to the frequency of the incident radiation.

The graph of the frequency of the stopping potential against frequency of the radiation is a straight line as shown below

The graph is a straight line. From Einstein’s photoelectric equation;
Work done by stopping potential is given by ev.

By work energy theorem,
Substituting in Einstein’s photoelectric equation;
hf= hfo + eVs

Therefore, e Vs = hf – hf₀

But hf₀ is equal to work function W₀.  Hence, the graph of Vs against f is straight line cutting the f-axis at f₀.

The slope of the graph is    and the Vs. intercept is

Both Planck’s constant h and the work function W₀ can therefore be calculated from the graph.

Einstein’s photoelectric equation

When a photon strikes an electron, all its energy is absorbed by the electron.

Some of the absorbed energy is used to dislodge the electron from the metal surface while the rest appears as the kinetic energy of the emitted electron.

The energy transformation during photoelectric emission is thus summed as follows;

Examples

  • The cut-off wavelength for a certain material is 3.310 × 10-7 What is the cut-off frequency for the material?

Solution

Speed of light ‘c’ = 3.0 × 108 m/s. Since f = c / λ, then  f = 3.0 × 108 / 3.310 × 10-7 = 9.06 × 1014 Hz.

  • The work function of tungsten is 4.52 e V. Find the cut-off potential for photoelectrons when a tungsten surface is illuminated with radiation of wavelength 50 × 10-7 m. (Planck’s constant, h = 6.62 × 10-34 Js).

Solution

Frequency ‘f’ = c / λ = 3.0 × 108 / 2.50 × 10-7.

Energy of photon = h f = 6.62 × 10-34 × (3.0 × 108 / 2.50 × 10-7) × (1 / 1.6 × 10-19)  = 4.97 eV.

Hence h fco = 4.52 e V. e V co = 4.97 e V – 4.52 e V = 0.45 e V = 7.2 × 10-20 J V co = 7.2 × 10-20 / 1.6 × 10-19 = 0.45 e V.

  • The threshold frequency for lithium is 5.5 × 1014 Calculate the work function for lithium. (Take ‘h’ = 6.626 × 10-34 Js)

Solution

Threshold frequency, f o = 5.5 × 1014 Hz, ‘h’ = 6.626 × 10-34 Js

Φ = h f = 5.5 × 1014× 6.626 × 10-34 = 36.4 × 10-20 4. Sodium has a work function of 2.0 e V. Calculate

  1. The maximum energy and velocity of the emitted electrons when sodium is Illuminated by a radiation of wavelength 150 nm.
  • Determine the least frequency of radiation by which electrons are emitted. (Take ‘h’ = 6.626 × 10-34 Js, e = 1.6 × 10-19, c = 3.0 × 108 m/s and mass of electron      = 9.1 × 10-31 kg).

Solution

  1. a) The energy of incident photon is given by h f = c / λ

= (6.626 × 10-34 × 3.0 × 108) / 1.50 × 10-9 = 1.325 × 10-18 J

K.E max = h f – Φ = (1.325 × 10-18) – (2 × 1.6 × 10-19) = 1.0 × 10 -18 J (max. K.E of the  emitted electrons)

But K.E max = ½ m v2max. Therefore;

1.0 × 10 -18 = ½ × 9.1 × 10-31 × V2max

    V2max = (1.0 × 10 -18 / 9.1 × 10-31)1/2 = 1.5 × 106 m/s (max. velocity of emitted  electrons).

  1. b) Φ = h f co and f o = Φ / λ, Φ = 2 × 1.6 × 10-19 fo = (2 × 1.6 × 10-19) / (6.626 × 10-34) = 4.8 × 1014 Hz ( threshold frequency of

the emitted electrons)

Applications of photoelectric effect

Photo-emissive cells– they are made up of two electrodes enclosed in a glass bulb (evacuated or containing inert gas at low temperature). The cathode is a curved metal plate while the anode is normally a single metal rod)

They are used mostly in controlling lifts (doors) and reproducing the sound track in a film. Photoconductive cells – some semi-conductors such as cadmium sulphide (cds) reduces their resistance when light is shone at them (photo resistors). Other devices such as photo-diodes and photo-transistors block current when the intensity of light increases.

Photo-conductive cells

Photo-conductive cells are also known as light dependent resistors (LDR) and are used in alarm circuits i.e. fire alarms, and also in cameras as exposure meters.

Photo-voltaic cell– this cell generates an e.m.f using light and consists of a copper disc oxidized on one surface and a very thin film of gold is deposited over the exposed surfaces (this thin film allows light). The current increases with light intensity.

CS Magoha is right on fees payment directive- MPs

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has defended education CS Prof. George Magoha on compelling parents to pay third term fees by sending children home.

Magoha had last week told parents to pay third term school fees arrears for their children, warning that those who fail to do so will have their children sent home.

The CS directed principals to ensure parents settle fees arrears but urged that students from humble backgrounds or whose parents lost jobs due to Covid-19 pandemic be spared. “I ask the principals to double check and confirm that the child they are sending home is not from a poor family or a family where the parent lost a job,” the CS said.

The directive has since been criticized and lauded by a section of parents in equal measure. Some parents asked the CS to be considerate as they were still struggling as result of the effects of the coronavirus.

Speaking at NEP girls’ high school where he distributed revision books for both primary and secondary schools, Duale said that he was in support of the CS.

“I think people misunderstood the CS. What he meant is that parents who are able to pay school fees must do so and principals and head teachers know these students,” he said.

He regretted the backlash that followed the CS statement noting, “Let us be honest with each other. Our children in school need to eat. We also have other bills that need to be cleared like electricity. How will the schools run if we refuse to pay the fees?” he posed.

Duale however urged head teachers to be sympathetic to needy parents. “Amongst us are parents who lost their jobs during this pandemic. Some were forced to close their businesses,” he said.

Recently, the government released Sh 9.3 billion capitation funds for primary and secondary schools countrywide.
