<p>How it went down at St. Francis Mangu Marking Centre:</p>
<p>~Monday: Examiners down their tools over poor pay and working conditions. They demanded that chief examiner be changed.<br />
~Tuesday: Examiners insisted in protest that no marking will go on.<br />
~ KNEC officials tried to calm down the teachers but it fell on deaf ears.<br />
~ KNEC CEO assured the examiners that the Chief examiner has has been sent on parking.<br />
~ Examiners were adamant and insisted that what they were being paid was too low considering the straining they go through marking the paper.<br />
~TSC CEO, Education CS and Education PS arrive at the marking centre later to calm the situation.<br />
~ TSC CEO Nancy Macharia tried to address the examiners but was chased away and was not able to make the address.<br />
~CS Machogu equally was not able to address the examiners and that&#8217;s when anti riot police were called.<br />
~CS Machogu demanded that the examiners should leave the marking centre within 30 minutes.<br />
~ CS Machogu convined and urgent meeting.<br />
~Later in the evening, KNEC placed an advert asking those who had trained as CRE examiners to apply.<br />
~Those (Examiners) who had tried to hang around in the hope that they will be allowed to continue marking were chased away.<br />
~The marking centre was closed.<br />
~ Currently, the place is manned by riot police in full gear.</p>
