Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics.

  To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though.

  Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries.

  Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.

Bachelor of Education(Arts) Admission Requirements

  1. Mean grade C+ (plus) at KCSE and at least C+ in each of the two teaching subjects chosen,
  2. 2 Principal passes at A’Leveland1 Subsidiary in relevant subjects,
  3. Diploma in Education.
  4. P1teachers must have scored a mean grade of C+ at KCSE with at least C+ in two teaching subjects chosen.

Bachelor of Education(Science) Admission Requirements

  1. Mean grade of C+(Plus) at KCSE with at least C (Plain) in Mathematics and C+ in each of the two teaching subjects or 2 Principal passes and 1 Subsidiary pass at A’ Level in Mathematics,
  2. Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Diploma in Education.

Admission specialists will review your application and supporting documentation carefully to assess your overall academic preparation. In evaluating your application, the University will consider the following factors:

  • Mean Grade scores achieved in High School
  • Grades earned in core subjects depending on the specific programmes in which you are interested
  • Additional information provided in support of your application.

Before you apply for admission at MKU, you are encouraged to carefully consider the various degree and diploma programmes available, meet with an adviser and when you decide MKU is the place you want to be. Admission to MKU is on a first come first serve basis so be sure to complete your application early. Whether you are interested in postgraduate, undergraduate or graduate studies, diploma or certificate programmes, you will find that MKU has a variety of programmes to chose from in fulfilling your educational and career goals. Duly filled application forms should be addressed to the Registrar- academic Administration. Application should be accompanied by copies of ID/Passport, relevant academic and professional certificates. Application fee is as follows:

SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS (SBE) POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Master of Business Administration (MBA) Bachelor’s Degree with at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from MUST in a relevant field or from any other institution recognized by MUST Senate OR A Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with at least 2 years relevant working experience OR Be a holder of a Pass Degree with 5 years’ post qualification working experience.
Master of Science in Entrepreneurship Bachelor’s Degree with at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from MUST in a relevant field or any other institution recognized by MUST Senate OR A Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with at least 3 years relevant working experience.
Duration: 2 years   Mode of Study: Weekend   Campus: Meru Town Campus (Hart Towers) Tuition fees per semester: Ksh. 60,000
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Bachelor of Commerce Be a holder of K.C.S.E with a minimum aggregate of C+ (plus) and a minimum of C (plain) in both Mathematics and English OR Be a holder of a Diploma in a relevant discipline with Credit pass from MUST or any other institution recognized by MUST Senate. Note: Candidates who are CPA/CPS/ACCA/CCP finalists will be exempted from year 1.  However, the candidates are expected to undertake the University core units.
Bachelor of Purchasing and Supplies Management Be a holder of K.C.S.E with a minimum aggregate of C+ (plus) and a minimum of C (plain) in both Mathematics and English OR Be a holder of a Diploma in a relevant discipline with Credit pass from MUST or any other institution recognized by MUST Senate. Candidates who hold a Diploma from MUST will be exempted for one year of study for Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Purchasing and Supplies Management. Duration: 8 semesters   Mode of Study: Full-time/Weekend Campus: Main Campus (Nchiru) and Meru Town Campus (Hart Towers) Tuition fees per semester: Ksh. 45,000.

Certificate in County Governance Minimum mean grade of D+(plus) in K.C.S.E OR K.C.E Division IV with at least Pass in both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili OR Pass in any relevant certificate course from an institution recognized by MUST Senate OR Mean Grade D(plain) in K.C.S.E with two years experience in County/Authority Environment.

Accounting Technicians Certificate (ATC I) Mean grade of D+ (plus) in K.C.S.E and above.
Accounting Technicians Certificate (ATC II) Pass at ATC I.
Duration: 6 months   Mode of Study: Full-time/Evening   Campus: Meru Town Campus (Hart Towers) Tuition fees per stage: Ksh. 12,000
Certified Public Accountant I (CPA I) – Sections 1 & 2 Mean grade of C+ (plus) in K.C.S.E with C+ (plus) in Mathematics and English.
Certified Public Accountant II (CPA II) – Sections 3 & 4 Pass at CPA I.
Certified Public Accountant III (CPA III) – Sections 5 & 6 Pass at CPA II.

SCHOOL OF PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCES (SPAS) POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Master of Science in Applied Statistics Bachelor’s Degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) OR a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with at least 2 years relevant working experience.
Master of Science in Applied Mathematics
Duration: 4 semesters – Full-time (Ksh. 60,000 per semester) and 6 semesters – Part-time (Ksh. 40,000 per trimester)   Campus: Meru Town Campus (Hart Towers)
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Bachelor of Science in Statistics Minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in K.C.S.E OR its equivalent with at least B- (minus) in Mathematics (or a Bridging Certificate in Mathematics with a minimum grade of Distinction) and Kiswahili/English C+ (plus) OR any other qualification accepted by MUST senate.
Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science Minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in K.C.S.E, B- (minus) in Mathematics and C + (plus) in English/Kiswahili. Geography, Accounts and Economics will also be an added advantage.
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science K.C.S.E mean grade of C+ (plus).  In addition, a student must have the following alternative combination of cluster subjects at the minimum grades shown: Mathematics C+ (plus) and pass in any two of the following alternatives. HELB opens window for applying for 2020/ 2021 undergraduate second and subsequent loans: Complete guide

The Higher Education Loans Board, Helb, has opened the window for submitting undergraduate students’ second and subsequent loan applications. This loan is available for all Kenyan students admitted in in Public and private universities in Kenya and the East African region. The deadline for submitting your loan application is June 30, 2020.

REQUIREMENTS

For you to qualify for these loans you must meet the requirements below:

  • You must be admitted in a public or private university offering programmes that are recognized by the commission for university education, CUE.
  • You must be undertaking a bachelor’s degree; self-sponsored, parallel and module II programmes.
  • You must be a recent beneficiary of the undergraduate loans. (This is application is not available for first time applicants).

You can apply for the loan easily by using any of the methods below;

If you have a smart phone, then the cheapest way of submitting your application ;is by using the HELB mobile app:

  1. Download the mobile app from Google play. Just search for HELB in Google play and click ‘install’.
  2. Once successfully installed, register details.
  3. You will then be expected to read notes/ instructions.
  4. Now, select the loan application form.
  5. Fill in the details, correctly, and submit by clicking ‘OK’.
HOW TO REGISTER FOR LOAN MOBILE SERVICES.

Another way you can use to apply for the loan is by utilizing the mobile USSD code. Register by using the steps below:

  1. Go to your dialer on your mobile and enter *642# and send.
  2. Then Select/ enter 1 and send.
  3. On the next window prompts, provide your: First name, last name, National ID number, date of birth.
  4. Enter a PIN you can easily remember and confirm it.
  5. A registration success message will be displayed thus: “Thank you for registering with the HELB mobile platform. You will receive SMS Confirmation Shortly.”
  6. Then, proceed to make your loan application.

This is yet another method via which the loan application can be filed.

  1. Visit the Helb portal by visiting the link; https://portal.helb.co.ke/auth/signin
  2. Enter your email address and password then click ‘Sign in’.

Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.
