Government introduces new requirements for those seeking to apply for an Epassport

You will now be required to book an appointment when applying for an Electronic Passport (Epassport).

The Department of Immigration Services has introduced an appointment system for persons wishing to submit their ePassport applications in order to
take biometrics at passport processing stations.

You will henceforth be required to book an appointment in the ecitizen portal specifying the date, time and station of your convenience.

Those who have already made online application for epassport are advised to revisit ecitizen and book their appointments, (date, time and station).

Exemptions will only apply to:
o Sick persons who have urgent appointments to travel abroad for medical attention.
o Students on scholarships that require immediate travel abroad.
o Public servants on urgent official assignments abroad,
o Business executives on urgent official business visits abroad.

Note that for those who will be exempted from the booking schedule, evidence will be mandatory.

Kenya extends the E-passport application deadline

The e-passport deadline has been extended from August 31st 2019 to 1st March 2020.

His Excellency the President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday 25th July, 2019 directed the Cabinet Secretaries for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Monica Juma and her Interior and Coordination of National Government counterpart, Dr. Fred Matiang’i to work with Foreign Missions across the world to facilitate the issuance of visas to Kenyans on the current passports.

The directive has in effect, extended the deadline for travel on the new e-passport to 1st March, 2020 for all Kenyans. Kenyans can therefore travel using their current (old blue) passports until 1″ March, 2020.

Applications for the new passport continue countrywide and Kenyans are urged to take advantage of the extension and not wait until the last minute to apply. Visas on the old passports will remain valid even after replacing your passport with the new e-Passport.

Locally, you can submit application for the ePassport at the following centers; for both new applications as well as replacements:
1). Nairobi
2). Mombasa
3). Kisumu
4). Eldoret
5). Kisii
6). Embu
7).Nakuru

To replace your current passport, you will need the following items:
1). Birth certificate copy
2). Original ID and copy
3). Recommender’s ID copy
4). Original and Copies of the last two pages of the current passport
5). Duly filled downloaded and printed application form.
6). 3 invoices
7). 3 passport sized photos

The Passport processing duration is 10 working days for replacements and 15 days for New applications.
