KUCCPS Portal Updates.

1. The preparation and maintenance of the portal is complete, and you can now log in. However, the application process has not started yet. You can expect to begin submitting your applications anytime from now.

2. Private universities have been added to the KUCCPS portal, but they are clearly marked as such in a separate column.

3. The cost of each program at every university is clearly indicated.

4. The application page specifies that the government will ONLY provide sponsorship for students attending public universities and TVETs under the Ministry of Education.

Before enrolling in any university, securing your KUCCPS admission letter is essential. KUCCPS is the Government of Kenya body that undertakes the selection of students for admission to higher learning institutions for Government sponsorship. In this article, we are going to learn How To Download Admission Letter From KUCCPS.

Have you recently received your KCSE results and are stuck on what to do next? Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) intake is ongoing, and all suitable applicants are invited to submit their applications to join their institution of choice.

In order to coordinate the deployment of students to the nation’s colleges and universities, KUCCPS was founded in 2012 under the authority of the University Act. The body arranges for the enrollment of government-sponsored students in a range of undergraduate, graduate, certificate, diploma, and other programs provided by the associated colleges.

The state corporation invites applications from qualified students for admission into various higher learning institutions. The application deadline for the different courses happen in different times throughout the year.

However, it can be extended to allow eligible students ample time to apply for KUCCPS placement or revise their courses.

KUCCPS Application Guidelines

The minimum admission requirement for applying for degree programmes is C+ for female candidates and B- for male students. On the other hand, you need to have scored a minimum grade of C- and above to enroll in diploma courses.

Candidates with an overall grade of B with 60 points for males and grade B- with 58 points for females are allowed to make six choices for either degree or diploma programmes.

Candidates having an overall grade of C- and above but below the cluster points of grade B (with 60 points for the males) and grade B-(with 58 points for the females) are allowed to make a maximum of 6 choices for diploma programmes.

Choices 1(a), 1(b), and 1(c) must be similar programmes, while choices 2, 3 and 4 can be any other programmes. Candidates having disabilities will download application letter online and fill the form and return the filled form to the placement service.

How To Apply For KUCCPS

The KUCCPS online application is open to all applicants who qualify for government sponsorship into the various programs available. Application forms are available for both Kenyans and other interested foreign nationals wishing to join Kenyan institutions.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to apply.

Visit the KUCCPS website and visit the student portal page. Select the programmes and move the ones that interest you into the “Course Basket”. This will enable you to work with a shorter list when preparing your final list of courses to apply for.

Once you settled on your preferred courses, enter the programme codes. Use the “Application/Revision” tab to enter the programme codes. Follow the steps as shown on the computer screen and finally submit the application.

Fees Payment Procedure

If you are a first-time applicant, you will be required to pay Kshs. 1500 as application fees. Candidates revising their previous applications are required to pay Kshs. 1000.

The fees can be paid via M-Pesa using the following procedure:

Visit M-Pesa on your mobile phone. Click on the option which reads as “Pay Bill.” To complete the transaction, you need to enter the business number, which is “820201”. Finally, you have to provide your exam year (KCSE) followed by the index number (11 digits) Enter your desired amount Provide the M-Pesa PIN and send it.

Upon payment of the application fees, you will receive an SMS notification from M-Pesa.

How To Download Admission Letter From KUCCPS

After applying for your course, you need to track your admission letter’s progress on the KUCCPS portal to know the institution that you have been selected to join.

If you want to check your admission letter, you should open the KUCCPS student portal. Log in with your application details, i.e., your username and password or index number. You should then navigate to the admission letter section to download and print the KUCCPS admission letter.

How To Check KUCCPS Placement?

Applicants can check their placement results through any of the following ways:

Student’s portal: Log in to the student’s portal and view your placement results on the dashboard.

SMS method: Send your KCSE Index number by SMS to 20842 starting with your KCSE year (Example: 202412345678912 to 20842). You will get a reply showing the program and institution you’ve been assigned to. (Cost: Ksh25 per SMS.)

KUCCPS contacts inquiries: Applicants may also send enquiries through the KUCCPS communication channels.

Huduma Centres: You can also visit any of the KUCCPS officers stationed at various Huduma Centres, including Nairobi (GPO), Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nyeri, Meru, Narok, Kakamega, Isiolo, Kitui, Thika, Kitale, Narok, Garissa, and Nakuru.

University of Nairobi Kuccps Admission Letters

Students who secured places in university of Nairobi will have to download their admission letters from student portal.

One will get an application ref no via SMS. Or download the admission list from UON website.

On the University students portal, you will need to enter your Registration Number or Application Ref Number to get allocated a Registration Number.

To login to SMIS Students Portal click this link then key in your registration number and your KCSE index no/ID number as your password.

There you will be able to download your 2025/2026 university admission letters to University of Nairobi.

How To Download Moi University Admission Letter

NB: Before proceeding, ensure you have received an SMS from KUCCPS or Moi University indicating your placement to Moi University. You can also confirm you placement from your KUCCPS portal.

Requirements to download the letter

Digital passport photo (yellow background), scanned copies of National ID card, Birth certificate, KCSE Results slip and high school leaving certificate.

1. First ensure you have received an invitation to Moi University from KUCCPS.

2. Login via the Admission Portal using the following link: https://admissions/login-kuccps

3. Key in the required login details in the following format: KCSE Index number/2022 and click Login. i.e., if your index number is 12345678 then key in this format 12345678/2022 where 12345678 is your index number and 2022 is the year you sat for your Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Remember to provide the Security Stamp as requested.

4. The first time you login, you are required to ACCEPT or REJECT the Programme you have been offered. Accepting the offer gives you access to other services while rejecting denies you access to any other services.

5. Fill in the required registration details and download your admission letter

Portal now open for third and final revision of degree and TVET courses

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, Kuccps, has opened the portal from July 4th to 8th, 2023 for the third and final chance to apply for courses in universities and TVET institutions.

This is for:

>> 2022 KCSE candidates who have not secured a course,

>> Form Four leavers who’d like to apply for the first time.

The online application portal is now open for the second revision of course and institution choices for the placement of the 2022 KCSE cohort and other applicants to universities and colleges.

This is another opportunity for secondary school graduates to apply for courses offered in universities and technical colleges. The exercise will run until July 8th, 2023.

It targets Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) graduates who missed placement to their preferred courses submitted at the school application stage or choices made during the second revision that ended on June 27, 2023. Also targeted are KCSE certificate holders who have never made applications before to pursue courses in universities and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions.

KUCCPS also urges candidates who attained C+ and above in the 2022 KCSE examination and did not access the portal during the first revision to ensure that they apply for degree or TVET courses in the current application period. Diploma in Teacher Education Courses for prospective secondary school teachers are also available.

Following the first revision of choices that ended on June 27, KUCCPS has processed the applications that were received, and has provisionally placed successful applicants pending approval by the Placement Board.

Those who have secured courses provisionally should not re-apply but wait for KUCCPS to complete the placement process after which they will be provided with details of their courses and institutions.

KUCCPS selects KCSE graduates for placement to all levels of higher education – artisan, craft, diploma or degree. With any KCSE mean grade, a secondary school graduate can log into the system and find a course that suits their grade.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is an agency of the Kenya government established to undertake the placement of students to universities and colleges and develop career guidance programmes for students, among other functions.

Mandate

Coordinate the placement of Government-sponsored students to universities and colleges;
Disseminate information on available programmes, their costs and areas of study as prioritised by the Government;
Collect and retain data relating to university and college placement;
Develop career guidance programmes for the benefit of students;
Advise the Government on matters relating to university and college student placement; and
Perform any other function assigned to it under the Act

Continuous TVET Placement

KUCCPS supports the Kenyan Government’s efforts to increase enrolment in TVET institutions
To achieve this target, the Placement Service receives applications for TVET programmes multiple times in a year

Why TVET Programmes?

TVET sector is one of the integral pillars in the government’s efforts towards poverty eradication, job creation and sustainable development.
More importantly, the TVET sector is strategically placed to be an enabler of the Big Four Agenda of the Government that focuses on affordable housing, manufacturing, food security, and affordable healthcare for all citizens.
To achieve this, there is need for trained manpower with relevant skills to address food production, affordable housing and manufacturing as well as healthcare needs of the people.
This underscores the fact that equipping youth with technical skills is one of the strategies aimed at creating employment opportunities and improving the livelihoods of Kenyans.
Programmes under TVET are also within the requirements of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). STEM knowledge and skills play a key role in sustainable growth and stability of the economy.
The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) has put in place a framework that allows career progression where a student can transition from one level to the next in the programmes they are
Students under TVET placement are advantaged because they sit for exams from authorised and recognised examining bodies like KNEC, NITA, KASNEB, CDACC among and this makes it possible for them to move to next level.
The government of Kenya is supporting its citizens by providing capitation (grants, bursaries, scholarships, county bursaries) to all applicants who apply and get placed through KUCCPS as government sponsored These students are also eligible to apply for the HELB loan which will be repaid upon completion of their studies.
Due to availability of high programme capacities in TVET institutions, KUCCPS provides several opportunities to eligible applicants to apply in a year. The application windows provided, go hand in hand with the government’s initiative to encourage enrolment in TVET This provides endless opportunities to youths where they get hands on skills and eventually create employment opportunities not only for themselves but also for others.

TVET Placement Criteria:

Candidates must meet the minimum admission requirements approved by the respective regulating authority to be considered for placement.

It’s paramount to note that placement is done by merit taking into consideration:

An applicant’s choice preference,
Year of KCSE (note that it is open to all KCSE candidates since 1994 with priority being given to immediate cohort)

Pseudo weight

The sum of the subject requirement(s) raw grade points as applicable i.e. for courses with no subject requirements, this part is not assessed.

Mandatory Subjects Combo and

Mandatory Subject Combo – The sum of the three compulsory KCSE subjects’ raw grade points. AGP – The candidates’ overall KCSE aggregate points.

Affirmative Action criteria shall apply for applicants who apply under the Persons with Disability (PWD) category subject to meeting the minimum subject requirements of their programmes of interest.

TVET Applicant Eligibility:

For an applicant to be placed, he/she must be a Kenyan Citizen, Must have sat for KCSE as prescribed by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) or equivalent under the KNQF.
The Placement Service places students for TVET programmes to public TVET institutions including Technical Training Institutes, Technical and Vocational Centres and National Polytechnics registered as members of KUCCPS.
TVET provides an opportunity for all eligible Students who sat for KCSE as well as those who sat for KCPE can enrol for TVET programmes in available institutions country wide. KUCCPS places KCSE TVET applicants based on the following qualifications: Grade C and C- for diploma programmes, Grade D+ and D for Craft Certificate programmes and Grade D- and below for Artisan programmes.

Note: KCPE applicants can also apply for TVET programmes by enrolling directly to those institutions.
