Alshabaab planning a major terror attack in Kenya- Police say

Terror group, the Alshabaab, is planning to hit the capital city of Kenya, Nairobi; the police say. In a security brief, memo, by Mr. Karanja (for the DCI Regional Coordinator, Nairobi), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations directs all police ‘officers to be on high alert to thwart any impending attack.’

According to Mr. Karanja, “Six Alshabaab operatives, led Ahmed Harith Mahmoud, are planning to attack Times Towers and Treasury buildings with the Central Business District, CBD, (in Nairobi) between Sunday 28th October 2018 and Sunday 4th November 2018”.

Recently, the Alshabaab bombed Arabia boys Secondary school in Mandera, killing two teachers.

The police indicate that the master planner of the Nairobi attacks, Ahmed Harith Mahmoud, ‘is an associate and logistician of Ahmed Iman Ali alias Engineer.’ Iman is a Kenyan born Alshabaab leader from Majengo, Nairobi, who is currently based in Somalia.

“The subject (Ahmed Imam Ali) has been conducting reconnaissance on the above mentioned targets (Times Towers and Treasury buildings) for one month and has been working in collaboration with five others among them one lady and four men,” Karanja reports. The DCI, further, indicates that the 5 operatives are residing in Umoja and Kariobangi areas, in Nairobi.

On Saturday, 21 September 2013, 4 Alshabaab militia attacked the West gate mall, in Nairobi, killing 71 people.
