KMTC Enhances Collaboration with Garissa County to Boost Student Well-Being
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is intensifying its partnership with Garissa County to elevate student well-being and improve access to high-quality medical education in the North Eastern region.
On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, a delegation headed by Board Chair Mr. Joseah K. Cheruiyot and CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch convened with Garissa Governor H.E. Nathif Jama for strategic discussions aimed at bolstering student support and broadening educational opportunities.
Garissa County has been instrumental in KMTC’s development, providing land and aiding in the establishment of the Garissa campus. Building on this solid foundation, KMTC and the County are now collaborating to make medical education more accessible and student-centric.
During their meeting, Mr. Cheruiyot urged the County to enhance academic support by deploying additional healthcare professionals and instructors, particularly for specialized programs like Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine (OTM) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
He also suggested a partnership to introduce Higher National Diploma programs in critical fields such as Renal Nursing and Critical Care Nursing, which are vital for advancing local healthcare services.
Dr. Oluoch expressed gratitude for Garissa County’s ongoing support and underscored the necessity of alleviating financial barriers for students, especially concerning clinical placements. He reaffirmed the College’s dedication to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students.
Governor Nathif Jama reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting KMTC and outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing the student experience. These initiatives include reassessing clinical placement fees, granting free access to all clinical training sites within the county, and upgrading campus infrastructure such as roads and lighting to ensure safety and ease of movement.
The Governor also emphasized his commitment to cultivating an inclusive and empowering educational atmosphere for every student. “Our partnership with KMTC transcends mere education,” Governor Jama stated. “It’s about forging pathways for students to thrive and make meaningful contributions to our communities.”
