In October 2021, the school experienced unrest when students went on strike starting as early as 4:00am. The Cause: Students cited insecurity as the primary reason, claiming an unidentified man had been seen breaking into the school dormitories at night.
One of the most intense strikes occurred in October 2016, leading to the indefinite closure of the school. The strike was caused by the interdiction (suspension) of the then Principal, Judith Ngome, by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Students had a strong attachment to her because she had significantly improved the school’s academic performance. Students rejected the acting principal, whom they described as “arrogant.” The protest turned violent, resulting in the destruction of the school kitchen, canteen, and administration block. Four students were injured during confrontations with the police.

Sponsorship: It is a Government school affiliated to the Church. Keveye Girls High School is sponsored by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). Because of this sponsorship, the school is formally known as Friends School Keveye Girls. It is a prominent public national girls’ secondary school located in the Sabatia Constituency of Vihiga County, Kenya.
Facilities: The school has well built infrastructure for students. These include: Dormitories, Classrooms, Lavatories and dining hall. There are also enough facilities for sports and games.
