Full list of all Teacher Training Colleges, TTCs, in Kenya

Are you a form four leaver who has done his/ her KCSE examinations? Are you intending to join a Teacher Training College (TTC) to become a teacher? Well, here is your complete guide to all TTCs in Kenya where you can further your studies.

You need to be aware that Teacher Training Colleges are of two types; public and private TTCs. Public TTCs are owned and managed by the government, while Private ones are owned by individuals.

Depending on the type of institution, admissions are either done via the the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), direct placement by the college or both.

Please note that it is important that you see the minimum requirements for you to be registered as a teacher and get TSC employment.

COURSES OFFERED AND REQUIREMENTS

You should be in the know that Teacher training colleges offer Certificate and Diploma courses. See some of them here;

Diploma in Early Childhood development and education (ECDE)

This course takes 6 holiday sessions and you must have the following minimum qualifications for you to be admitted:

  • C plain in K.C.S.E. or P1 certificate or
  • Holder of certificate in ECDE
  • KNEC proficiency certificate for certificate in ECDE.
Certificate in early childhood development and Education (ECDE)

To pursue this course, you must meet the following minimum admission requirements:

  • C- or D+ at K.C.S.E.
    or
  • KNEC proficiency certificate for certificate in ECDE
Diploma in Special Needs Education (SNE)

Minimum admission requirements for this course include:

  • A mean grade of C plain in K.C.S.E.
    or
  • P1 certificate
  • Holder of certificate in ECDE
  • KNEC proficiency certificate for certificate in ECDE.
Certificate in human resource management

You will only need to have a D+ or C- at K.C.S.E to pursue this course.`

DIPLOMA IN TEACHER EDUCATION COURSE (DTE)

TTCs offer training for both Science (Diploma in Education Science) and Arts (Diploma in Education Arts) teachers. The diploma course lasts for 3 academic years. It is a pre-requisite from the Ministry of Education that aspiring secondary school teachers should have the below minimum KCSE qualifications for entry into DTE (Diploma in Teacher Education) course. Here are the latest general minimum requirements for students seeking to pursue teaching:

  • Mean grade: C+ (plus)
  • English: C (plain)
  • Mathematics: D+ (plus) for those taking education arts and C (plain) for those hoping to undertake training in education science.
  • Two specialization subjects (subjects you intend to teach at high school): C+
