Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Lugari Campus was established through a community initiative led by area MP Hon. Ayub Savula supported by the KMTC Board of Directors in 2014. Situated   in Mautuma Sub- County, Lugari Constituency in Kakamega County, Lugari Campus opened its doors to its first group of students in September 2016.

Lugari Campus operates in two sites: at the Mautuma Sub- County Hospital and the former District Commissioner’s Headquarters.

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Lodwar Campus is located 200 meters east of Lodwar County Teaching and Referral Hospital, on Kakuma-Lokichoggio road in Turkana County. The Campus is adjacent to Lodwar Youth Polytechnic and on the leeward side of Lodwar High School hill.

With over 60 per cent of the population in the County being nomadic pastoralists, the total county population is about 1,200,000. The County socio, economic, cultural, climatic and geographical uniqueness prompted the construction of the Campus. Since inception, KMTC Lodwar Campus has continued to progress and make a remarkable difference in the County health sector.

Clinical Experience Sites

Our mutual relationship with Lodwar County Teaching and Referral Hospital (LCRH) ensures that our students get the much-needed clinical exposure using top-of-the art equipment and other facilities.

For clinical experiences, our students are attached to Bungoma, Nakuru, Giligil, Katilu, A.I.C Lokichoggio and Lokichar health centers, as well as local health facilities which familiarize them with real-life experiences in the communities where they may eventually work upon graduation.

Our team of dedicated tutors make weekly visits to follow up on the performance of the students at clinical sites.

You will become a member of active clubs and a vibrant student representative council at the Campus, which represents students’ grievances to the administration. Among the clubs are President’s Award which advocates for community sanitation, environmental conservation, hygiene, behaviour change among students in and outside the Campus.

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kitui Campus was established in the year 2004. The Campus is 1 km away from Kitui town and is located along the Hospital road next to Kitui County Referral Hospital. The environment is very conducive for learning which makes the Campus excel academically.

Kitui Campus admitted its first class of Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) in September 2004. The Campus has since experienced exponential growth, with other programmes/courses being introduced over the years.

Kenya Medical training College (KMTC) Kapkatet campus was started as an initiative of the KMTC Board of Directors and a group of local community members who saw the need of establishing a Campus to serve the then districts of Kericho, Kipkelion, Bureti and Bomet. When former President Mwai Kibaki visited the area, the locals seized the opportunity and requested for a training college.

This request was granted and in September 2007, KMTC Kapkatet started with 50 Clinical Medicine students. The community requested for some structures within the hospital to be converted into classrooms, offices, library, kitchen, dining hall, skills lab, administration and hostel.

Sitting on a 78-acre piece of land with a perimeter wall, Kenya medical College (KMTC) Mandera Campus was constructed in 2018. Its first intake in Community Health and Development was in April 2019. The course takes six months after which the students proceed to a two- year certificate course. The Campus is located in Mandera town opposite Moi Stadium and Khadija Girls Secondary School, about 2km from Mandera County Referral Hospital.

KMTC Taveta Campus is situated in a serene environment conducive for learning in Taveta Constituency, Taita Taveta County at the Kenya-Tanzania border.

Taveta Campus is set to admit pioneer students in September 2019 in the Department of Health Promotion and Community Health. The pioneer students will undertake a six-month short course in Community Health and Development and a Certificate course for Community Health Assistants (CHA).

This will mark the achievement of a major milestone for a Campus established to expand training opportunities for health care professionals. The Campus is a flagship project of National Government – Constituency Development Fund, Taveta, which has immensely supported the development of its infrastructure.

The Campus will play a major role in the training of health workers, who will be key to the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

KMTC Machakos Campus is located near Machakos County Teaching and Referral Hospital. A calm, breathtaking environment with a beautiful view of hill peaks and the Yatta plateau, the longest in Africa, also neighbor Machakos Campus, offering a serene environment for learning.

The Campus was established in 1959 as a training school for Enrolled Nurses (EN) under the then Machakos General Hospital. The training of EN was srapped in 1978 giving way to Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nursing (KECHN), which continued up to 2000 when the course was replaced by Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN).

Makindu Campus started in September 2015 through the initiative of the Government of Makueni County in partnership with the KMTC Board of Directors. The first programme to be introduced was Diploma in Clinical Medicine, a three -year program and in March 2016, three and a half year Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing was introduced.

In September 2017, a two-year Certificate course in Orthopedic Plaster was also started followed by a certificate course in Medical Engineering in March 2019.

Initially, the Campus was housed at Makindu Sub County Hospital Trauma Centre awaiting construction on a five-acre piece of land allocated by the County Government.

In June 2016, the students relocated to the first two classrooms constructed by the County Government and on 7^th December the same year His Excellency the President Uhuru Kenyatta, officially commissioned the Campus.

The pioneer group of 44 clinical medicine students graduated in December 2018 while the pioneer Nursing and Orthopedic Plaster Technology students are set to qualify in July 2019.

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kisii Campus is situated along Kisii Hospital Road and is adjacent to the Kisii County Teaching and Referral Hospital within Kisii Central Business District in Kisii County.

Kisii Campus was started in 1958 under the colonial government to train dressers or nurse aides. In 1972 after independence, the Campus commenced the structured training of Enrolled Nurses (EN), and later in 1980 it started a certificate course for Enrolled Community Health Nurses (ECHN). In 1999, the Campus upgraded to offer Diploma in Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) with two intakes in March and September of each year.

In 2000, the Campus started offering Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, and in September 2007, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences was introduced. The training facilities have been developed by the Government of Kenya and equipment worth millions of shillings acquired to support quality training for students.

Our students have their skills further developed in various practical areas, majorly the Kisii County Referral and Teaching Hospital. Other county and sub county hospitals within the country also serve this purpose, same as rural demonstration health centres identified.

Clubs, Societies and Clubs

Various sporting activities exist in the Campus as well as the infrastructure to support them. These include playing fields for football, volley ball, handball, basketball and netball. The Campus does exceptionally well in indoor games notably table tennis, badminton, chess, darts and scrabble.

We understand that physical exercise is vital during developmental milestones of both the brain and body. Therefore, we periodically organize interfaculty competition in identified sports, where the students compete amongst themselves and winners rewarded.

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nairobi Campus started in 1927 with four students at the Kenya Institute of Administration (KIA), Kabete. In 1990, it became a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency through an Act of Parliament, Cap.261, Legal Notice No. 14, Laws of Kenya.

In 1994, the name Kenya Medical Training College was adopted as a unifying title for the College. Nairobi Campus was operating under the KMTC headquarters until 2001 when it became autonomous with its own Principal.

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kombewa Campus is situated off Kisumu- Bondo – Bar Korwa road, opposite Kombewa Chiefs office. It is 500 meters west of Kombewa Deputy County Commissioner’s offices in Seme South Central Location, Kombewa division, Seme Sub County, Kisumu County.

The Campus was started in January 2015 courtesy of the support of KMTC Board of Directors, the leadership of Seme Constituency spearheaded by the the area Member of Parliament Dr. James Nyikal, the Kombewa Sub- County Hospital Management and Seme Community Professional leaders.

The National Government – Constituency Development Fund purchased land for its development.

Construction of the Campus commenced in July 2016 and in September 2016 it admitted its first students to pursue Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences.

KMTC Sigowet Campus was started in the year 2014, when the KMTC Board of Directors supported the initiative of the then area Member of Parliament. The community purchased 5.2 acres of land and in 2016, construction of two classrooms and an ablution block, funded by the Soin/Sigowet Constituency Fund was started.

In March 2018, KMTC posted a Principal to the Campus in preparation to admit students and also work closely with the CDF project committee. In the same year, the Campus embarked on landscaping and fencing of its premises. The Campus admitted its first class of Certificate in Orthopedics Plaster Technology in March 2019.

The Campus is located in Soin/Sigowet constituency, 35 km west of Kericho town and 30 km north-west of Kapkatet town.

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kakamega Campus is situated in Kakamega town, next to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital. The history of the Campus dates back to 1952 when it started training Enrolled Nurses.

27 years later, in 1979, the training of Environmental Health Sciences was also inaugurated. The faculty of Medical Laboratory Technology, now Medical Laboratory Sciences, was introduced in 1981.

All the three programmes offered certificate courses until 1994 when Medical Laboratory Sciences started a diploma course, followed by nursing in 2000. Environmental Health Sciences introduced in-service diploma course in September 2001. In September 2005, Nursing started upgrading of Enrolled Nurses to diploma level, in addition to the three progammes.

The Campus is located next to Kakamega County Referral Hospital, which is among the approved hospitals for practical lessons of students pursuing medical courses and for their internship.

We have highly skilled and experienced lecturers who are always ready to help students meet their objectives both in Campus and in their careers. Our library and computer lab are well-stocked with books, computers and internet to help our students conduct research. We have installed wi-fi hotspots in different corners of our campus that run for 24 hours. In addition, we offer free computer lessons to all new students.

Residing in KMTC Kakamega Campus is about more than just having a place to stay: it’s about finding a place to live. Those who choose to be residents enjoy our modern accommodation facilities, available to a limited number of students. Our hostels offer a unique on-campus experience featuring apartment-style housing located close to the Campus academic buildings and the main clinical site.

The first medical training college to be established in Taita -Taveta County, KMTC Voi Campus opened its doors in 2016. It is situated one kilometer from Voi town off Mombasa- Nairobi highway on a 5.9 acre land. The Campus is also two kilometers away from the famous Standard Gauge Railway Voi station, making it easily accessible.

The Campus is projected to expand in the coming years due to availability of space and support from the College and its partners.

KMTC Mombasa-Campus sits on a 2.2-acre piece of land in Tononoka Mzizima in Mombasa Island, next to Coast General Hospital along Abdel Naser Road. The Campus started in 1948 to train Enrolled Nurses and Midwives and was first located at Lady Grigg, maternity at Coast Provincial General Hospital (C.P.G.H) before moving to its current location in 1980.

In 1976, Enrolled Community Nursing was introduced. The Campus became the first to start the integrated Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing course at diploma level in the nursing history in Kenya.
