Recruited IEBC Staff (POs, DPOs and Clerks) 2022

The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has recruited 295 Presiding Officers (POs) and 2,021 polling clerks in Naivasha Constituency as part of the preparations for the August 9 General Elections.

Speaking to KNA, Naivasha Constituency IEBC Returning Officer (RO); Ms. Agnes Muriuki said 287 presiding officers will man the 287 polling stations in the constituency while the remaining eight POs will be stationed at the tallying centre.

She further noted similar number of Deputy Presiding officers (DPOs) have been recruited to help man the 287 polling stations.

The RO also said that each polling station will have seven polling clerks who will be performing different roles during the Election Day.

Muriuki said the recruitment went on smoothly without any hitches except for a few incidences where one or two young people tried to present academic papers that were not authentic or altered and they were now gearing for the trainings which start next week.

The trainings start with that of the of the Returning Officers(ROs) and their deputies who will in turn train the Presiding Officers (POs) and their deputies before the training goes to the polling clerks.

The qualifications for POs was a degree or Diploma in any field with that of polling clerks being an aggregate of C- (C Minus ) and above in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Last month, IEBC cleared 10 aspirants to vie for the Naivasha parliamentary seat in the coming General Elections.

According to Muriuki six of the aspirants were cleared to vie for the Naivasha parliamentary seat on political party tickets.

The R.O. said they cleared 67 aspirants to fight it out for the eight seats of Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Naivasha Constituency as independents and on various political parties.

Latest data from IEBC shows Naivasha Constituency has 157,128 registered voters and 287 polling stations, serving the eight electoral wards in the constituency.

The country goes to polls on August 9 with over 22 million registered voters expected to elect their leaders at six levels which include; the presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial, county women representatives, members of parliament and members of county assemblies.

IEBC Ultimate Guide To The Voting Process On August 9

According to IEBC, the voting procedure across all the polling stations will begin with voter identification and end with the voter leaving the polling station.

Polling stations will be opened at 6am and closed at 5pm.

1. Voter enters polling station with 1D/Passport.

A voter enters a polling station carrying their Identification Card (ID) or a valid Kenyan passport and line up. If there is not line they can proceed to the next step.

2. Voter identified and authenticated using KIEMS kit

Every voter will be needed to provide a polling clerk with an ID or a valid Kenya passport for identification.

The clerk will then check your name electronically using the KEIMS kit. The process will verify if your name has been registered to that specific polling station and if they are eligible to vote.

If the voter is cleared they proceed to the next step.

3. Voter issued with 6 stamped ballot papers.

The voter will then be issued with 6 stamped ballot papers.

The papers include those of a presidential candidate (in white), Governor (blue), Senator (yellow), Member of Parliament (pink), Women representative (green) and Member of County Assembly (beige).

4. Voter marks the ballot papers secretly.

With the ballot papers, the voter heads to a private booth where they mark the papers, choosing their preferred candidate.

In each paper a voter will mark (a tick or a cross) against their candidate. A voter should not use both symbols but only use one. Also, make sure to mark inside the box.

Using more than one symbol , or any other symbols, or even marking outside the indicated box, leads to that ballot becoming a spoilt vote.

A spoilt vote does not count towards the total votes of a voter’s preferred candidate for any of the six positions.

5. Voter casts ballot papers in the labelled ballot boxes.

Once marked the papers satisfactorily, the candidate will head to cast his vote into each ballot box provided for each position in the election. The color of the lid corresponds to the color of the ballot paper.

The voter should ensure they place each vote in the proper box. Failure to do so makes the vote that appears in the wrong box to become a spoilt vote.

This is done in the presence of the Presiding Officer and the full view of the party agents.

6. Voter’s finger marked with indelible ink.

The voter will then approach a clerk who will be having a marker pen ready to ink their small finger “pinky” or the space between the index and middle finger.

The ink in indelible (not removable easily). It acts as proof that one has voted and prevents one to come back to vote for a second or third time.

7. Voter leaves Polling Station

The voter will then leave the station and should not remain within the premise of the polling station.

What is this Platform? 🔎

My candidate is an open source platform that facilitates ease of access to information on who exactly is running for public office in Kenya’s 2022 General Election.

Relying on an exhaustive list provided by the IEBC, citizens are able to find out who is running for office in their constituency by keying in their location of interest. A complete list of public office aspirants for that location, including President, Deputy President, Member of Parliament, Senator, County Governor, Member of County Assembly and Women Rep, is generated for your consumption.

You can then tap on a particular candidate to gain access to publicly available information on them via a Google Search.

Areas with the same name? Try using a different landmark 🛠

There are instances where two or more locations on the map have the same name. This may cause one to get divergent results from that of their actual location. One such example is Mugumoini, which is both a part of Langata constituency in Nairobi and also Muranga constituency. If you happen to be in such a location, include a specific landmark in your search in order to get more accurate results.
